41 BMI is high enough for banding yes?
tcbeau replied to amanda01331's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
most insurances, if they cover, will approve with a BMI over 40 without comorbities. You need to check with your insurance as many have different criteria. Best of luck! -
 I just got the call from my drs office after two denials. We resubmitted a new claim due to an increase in BMI, and I was approved!!!!!!!!! The insurance submittals have been going on since March and I thought it would never happen. I feel so BLESSED!!!!!!! My only question is I am a nurse and will only be able to take a week off from work, will that be sufficient. I mean it has to be sufficient. I had planned to have this done over the summer as I was off, but I guess it was not supposed to happen that way. Any advice would be great. thank you.

pooh, I used your idea and padded my pants with some weight since I had to take my shoes off and low and behold I have a BMI of 41. We are now resubmitting. I cant believe I didnt think of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!you are a genius.
-
I was denied first by UHC because my bmi was 38.4 w/o comobities. My pcp then put me on meds for high cholesterol. Denied x2. Now my bmi is 41 and I am resubmitting, hope all goes well.

please tell pooh! I am in the same boat, and would like any amount of help. My doctors office scale allows for clothing and I must take my shoes off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are fills covered by ins. if the surgery is? (UHC)
tcbeau replied to Who'sThere's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have UHC, and my doctor said that the fills are covered for the first year only, then it would be self pay. Now if I could only get UHC to approve, have been denied twice now -
I have been trying to get banded since 4/15. I had a BMI of 38.4, polycystic ovaries, and high cholesterol of 210 without meds. I was denied because I had no co-mobities, UHC said I needed to be on meds for high cholesterol to consider it a comorbitiy. My PCP wrote a prescription for cholesterol meds and my BMI is now 39. I just found out today that I have been denied again. They said they could not give me a reason, a letter was forth coming. I have been waiting for the answer to my appeal since 5/27. Me and my doctors office have spent many hours on the phone. I am completely CRUSHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!I do not know where to turn now. Any suggestions would be helpful. I think I read something about obesity law, anyone know about that. Thanks alot, this site has been very helpful since I started my search in March of this year. Hope to get approval and surgery soon.:thumbup:

Denied again by united healthcare, need help
tcbeau replied to tcbeau's topic in Insurance & Financing
walter, thank you very much for the information. Are you referring to the online form I filled out on obesitylaw.com? Should I wait for the second denial letter from UHC or is the verbal denial by phone enough information to start this process. -
what are the fees for this?
-
Finally Approved after several appeals!!
tcbeau replied to jenkit03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been denied twice by UHC, wondering how long it took for obesity law to help, what were your circumstances and the fee charged. I am trying not to loose hope, but fading fast. -
I was also denied by UHC due to no comorbities and a bmi of 38.5. I appealed with my PCP putting me on meds to lower my cholesterol. I am still waiting for a letter three weeks later, they sure take their time. I agree they want you to give up, so DON'T!!!!!! If you have any comorbities it is the best way to go, high choles., diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea with meds can help with approval so my doctor says, we will see?!? Keep trying, we are all praying for you!!!!
-
My BMI is almost 39 and I was denied with UHC for no co-morbitites. What are my chances of getting approved if I gain the 10 lbs needed to be a BMI of 40. I do not want to gain and then get denied again and be even fatter!! Anyone who has gained weight after denial please let me know if you were approved. thank you soooooo much:lol:
-
I have UHC and was denied at 38.4 do you have any comorbities? Do you suggest I write a letter to try to get approved?
-
were you denied at 38 and then gained the weight to get to a bmi of 40? I was denied at 38.4 which is 10 lbs away from 40, I am wondering should I gain the weight or try a rebuttal letter for approval? by your ticker it looks like you are doing great, congrats!!!!
-
were you denied first, I have a diet history etc and I am 10 lbs short of having a BMI of 40, I am afraid if I gain the weight they will just deny again?
-
:angry_smile:Need any help I can get regarding an appeal, I was denied because my BMI is >38 with no serious co mobities that I am taking meds for. Need some help with all you with lots of experience regarding the appeal process and what needs to be done to get it approved. thank you all!!!!:biggrin::mad::thumbup::biggrin::biggrin::confused2::biggrin:

Any fill doctors in South Florida?
tcbeau replied to miamipeaches467's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am seeing Dr. perez at US bariatrics near holy cross hospital in ft. lauderdale, he will be doing my surgery but he said that fills were about 150.00 after insurance covers the initial year. hope this helps -
Hi!! Newbie here from South Florida!!
tcbeau replied to packerbacker's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, i am also from south florida and will hopefully be banded in june. I am seeing dr. perez in ft. lauderale and in the process of getting all of my paperwork together for insurance. I also have made the decision to keep my surgery quiet, as I do not want people to say that it is too radical. I have PCOS and it is possible to lose weight but almost impossible to keep it off. I would love to hear how you are doing, and I hope your husband is well in Iraq. You should be very proud of him. -
you should be very proud of yourself, I am just starting my journey now. I hope to have as much success as you have.

I am in the process of getting all my stuff together for the insurance, believe it or not the only thing that I cannot comply with is a five year weight history! I am a nurse and do not frequent doctors, and have no recorded weight past three years with a doctors office. I will try to have my GYN doctor write me a letter since I have worked with her for eight years, and have been overweight since the third grade. Wish me well, I hope it is enough to get approved.
