    Why bread!?

    NO to "band Cheating"

    Why bread!?

For me breads, pastas, all get stuck and or swell? or just make me PB. Grains are necessary, but come away knowing that life after LB will change. I am am/was a carb addict, my mind stomach connection is vastly improved....but those old demons that put me as a morbidly obese woman still lurk. Don't be ina rush to push the whole grain or otherwise bread into the new pouch. Anything that swells could distend the new pouch and bread does it to me. Try using corn tortillas as an alternative, pitas etc. When permissable try a test run, if it don't go down or feel right leave it alone. My clinic says to eat around your plate in this manner; protein first, vegetables, then fruit & grain. Hope this helps. Best of luck!
  4. Okay, I have been on here before when I was first "stoned". Got my information, read, read, read some more. I thought I was done after they did lithotripsy and a uteroscopy at the same time. Water Water Water. Had a follow up scan 7 months...guess what they're baa-ack!! Can somebody tell me waht is going on with my body? My stone profile shows no risk of developing stones, yet here they are...not just one but multiple stones on both sides. Is this a result of the band? I have no family history of stones, I have cut 10 grams of protein from my minimum, take no calcium supplements. I want to get to the cause not treat the symptom. My right side continually aches, I feel like crap most of the time. My leg bones(femurs) hurt. I am demoralized, depressed (situational I am sure) over this. BUT I am 63# lighter because of the band. I am at my sweet spot I believe. I feel so lost that something so great has happened to me and something so bad is developing. I drink my water, I know I am getting enough. Has anyone else had this happen to them:scared2:? Any input, info, other stories like mine would be so appreciated. Do I go to my surgeon? My PC physician? My Urologist?Endocrinologist? Nephrologist. Thanks a bunch all for listening to me whine.
  5. I have or rather my Doc did not have the stones analyzed. I want to ask why and can he have the stone pieces I "mined" analyzed. I have cut back calcium, even tho I am post menopausal I take no supplements. I have spoke the the nutritionist and honestly she forwarded me the stuff to avoid (dark leafy greens). I am looking for sources of protein that is not animal.....soy & beans. A vegan I am not but it seems to me that alot of people just accept the stones as a part of life. Me I can not live on pain pills & soy so I must change what is causing the buggers, and pray it is not the band causing them.
  6. My nutritionist says I must get 65 G protein daily...Heck I did not do that pre-banding!

    Problems with Kidney Stones?

I developed or rather the problem came up with "stones" 6 month after being banded, on both sides. 2 were stuck in the ureter r-side & 1 huge one the left side. Now whether this is due to the "band" no one can/will tell me. After reading the Aussie gal's comment on their diet, this seems a much better approach to moderating the risk. I was 51 when banded and never thought I would have a problem with stones......until now. My doc prescribed potassium citrate to prevent any further ones from forming. I warn you though it is a nasty pill, I break in half & take, drinks lots of water when you do take it, and make sure you have eaten something tangible or else it feels like its burning a hole in your stomach. It is interesting I had nausea (violent) and shakes and loads of pain after surgery, Did you? I did have urtetoscopy and lithotripsy at the same time. Could this account for it? Did your band Doc do your next fill with a flouroscope? Any way hope to hear how you are. I post infrequently but read all the time as questions come up.

    30/30 Rule

YEP!! I can not eat my portion of anything if I have drank anything before or after eating. PLUS my Dr's told me it helps the saiety & food stay in the pouch longer. If I do "forget" & try & drink tea or coffee with meal....too full & up it comes!! Not pleasant. Good luck!! L

  13. I wanted to go to DEPaul but I really like the way Missouri Bariatrics put together the team. I will post Tuesday or Wed. Are u doing the 14 day liquid

  14. Hey!! I have ben doing the liquid hi protein diet for 14 days. I have dropped somebut my surgeon did not a specific amount lost, they did not focus on that. ihave found is it also gets you mentally adjusted for the changes you are about to make. Food has controlled all our lives. I used myolean powder mix (vanilla with 1/2 no sugar added apple juice & H2o) I focused on drinking 3 20 oz bottles of water a day & 5 shakes. I cheated 1x with 1/4 to 1/2 cup ramen noodle crap. I was so remorseful. Expect to get bad breath cause you are in ketosis, some tiredness and to feel the cold more than usual. Thats my experience.. My surgery is tomorrow. Please do not be discouraged, the liquid is the best way...smaller liver quicker recovery time, less pain so I have read. Did you ask your doc why 14 lbs? Please stay on board, & you will make it happen. My DH wouldn't even eat in front of me...bless him. Stay brave.....you can & will do this. I can not believe mine is tomorrow!!

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

I like April Avengers!! I am so excited 48 hours or less & I will be in! Mine is scheduled for the 14th in Columbia, MO. Was anyone else worried about the drugs they give you during the operation? The anesthesia? NOt coming back alive? I hate it when they have to explain these things & possibilities to you.....but where will I end up if I do not have this surgery to help me? I have been on liquids for 13 days. I have to admit I cheated with about a 1/4 c of ramen noodle thingies on day 9...what in the world got into me? Dang.... food. BUt after that all has been liquid stuff!! Anyone else do that? I feel soooo bad:frown:.... BUt therapy is helping me "head hunger" and real hunger..... So I am on a learning curve. I have not weighed but my underwear is not rolling down as soon as I put 'em on!! I pea every hour! Anyone else care to share the experience of a 14 day liquid diet? I found a great mix it is called Myolean by Myogenix. It has a 7:1 protein ratio. Its decent as these things go, but I can not wait to have a mushie. Any one else use babyfood or toddler food in the beginning of mushy? Thanks for letting me vent & ask questions LoraLei

    excited?? not.

My friend, we all have what I like to call mama dramas. Please Please....this is your life changing experience. Probably why you & me both have grown to a disproportionate size (okay fattttt!) Leave them at home, but you are not going it alone. WE "the kindred" are here with you in spirit. YOu chose to leave your crappy childhood behind 8 years ago. Sounds like its creeping back in. Find a support group where you live cause they are out there. I'd betcha one would go with you! Just tell them politley that you thank them for wanting o be there with you and u will call them if they are needed. REcovery and sucess is based on a positive energy. If you feel the bad karma you can change it. Remember above all else, be true to your goal. Let No One Person Mess With Your Joy. Lets hear from you

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi Dan! Being diabetic is not a problem for me. I think you may have answered your own question if its right for you? I have heard many times that you can go off your meds for other co-morbidities once the weight starts coming off. Maybe that could be you. I also live in a rural area I must drive 125 miles to the hospital and support meetings. It is essential that you have a support person to share your journey with. It can be friend, wife, significant other, mom father, brother, pastor or sister. It will give you the mental support necessary to make the changes. the Lapband is not a panacea for obesity, but itis the best tool out there for those of us who do not want to reroute our innards forever. Perhaps if you look at the complications from diabetes vs the possible complications of surgery. you know the pros & cons listing trick. I know if I do not do anything at my weight 272 5'4" i will die and horribly and this is a life long problem for me, so the excess weight is, has & continues to take its toll. Best of luck on your journey and stay in touch. LoraLei

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Oooooo!! Hummus? made from beans, beans cause gas & bloat you, stretches the ol new stomach sac. I was told that it takes at least that 2-3 weeks for the stomach to heal around the band. Where did the doc locate your port? CAn anyone else chime in on this? (My darn keyboard is getting stiff to key) You have already dropped 15 #'s? man that is great:rolleyes2:. I was told that my surgeon would place it where it was convenient (for him or me?) He is a greatly known kinda guy in this field, soI trust him.
  23. Leah, Yeah i wish they included that with the price of surgery. did yours?
  24. My surgery is 4/14... I am excited too. WE CAN & MUST do this!! I have 150# to lose I have a whole 'nuther person in me
  25. I am having to complete 2 weeks liquidd only pre op & my surgery date is 4/14. I am looking forward to it in a way. My last dinner as it were made me so sick that I chucked up my toenails that night. Serves me right for pigging on crab & butter.......... I choose to look at this as a cleansing. Good l;uck & let me know how you do!!
