    Urgent.. Help with BCBS

Congratulations on the approval! You will be having surgery tomorrow if everything goes right! I know that you are happy, I am 5 months out and the only thing that I wish is that I would have done it MUCH sooner! Drives me nuts because I used to work for the hospital that I did my surgery. Started working for a another hospital and went through their program and they ended up getting out of bariatrics altogether! Ended up having to go back to the other hospital ( would have gotten a 25% discount with my current employer) but oh well, thats life and at least I am 90 pounds lighter and feeling much better than I was over 6 months ago!! You will be just fine!

    Urgent.. Help with BCBS

I have BCBS here in VA, they did approve me but I also had to be in a weight loss program for about 6 months, they also had to look and see that I had a history of up and down weight loss. My surgeons office was well versed in what was going on and assisted me in filling out the paperwork (no lies, or stretching the truth just assistance in filling out the paperwork to get approved the first time). I have a record of yo-yo weight loss and thankfully it was enough to get me approved and able to move on. My advice is just go with the program and you should be fine, even if they want 12 months of you in a program just go along with it, the results you see at the end will make the journey sweeter. Not bragging just giving you facts, I have dropped over 88 pounds in less than 6 months, my quality of life and energy levels have gone through the roof! You are worth it, just work the plan and about 13-14 months from now you will be much happier!!

    So happy and need advice

For me it was after about 4 weeks, at two weeks out from surgery my Dr allowed me to move on to pureed food, after another two weeks of that I was able to move on to "normal" food. There were still a couple of restrictions but not many. During this phase is when I tried salad and raw veggies, I was just instructed to make sure that I ate small amounts and that I ate slowly, and only introduced one thing at a time to ensure that I was not going to have an adverse reaction to anything.

    Indigestion

My friend it sounds like now is the perfect time to seek professional medical care. Please call your surgeon ASAP and tell him/her what is going on, and I am willing to bet that they will get you in ASAP. With the symptoms that you describe that may be several major medical issues.

    Hypertension

I can tell you that you hypertension is likely due to your heredity. I have lost over 80 so far and I am still on meds, I have had to go back to my Dr and get it adjusted because my pressure started getting too low and I was starting to pass out when I would stand up. My surgeon says that my goal weight is about 30-40 more pounds and I will see if I am still on them at that point. But don't sweat the small stuff, the main thing is that you are loosing weight and are definitely healthier than you would have been without the surgery. And just like @JohnnyCakes stated your PCP is the correct person to see, if they were the person that put you on that prescription. If it was another Dr. then you want to go see them, most Dr's will not unprescribed a medication that someone else has prescribed unless there are drug interactions or other immediate health issues.

Nearly 2 Wks out...Going to Disney World??

I really would stay away from any and all rides that have any sort of health advisory on them. At only two weeks out you are still healing and will not be able to ride anything that is extremely "fun" and fast moving. You should be fine with walking around the park, we went to a local amusement park and by the time we were done we did well over 6 miles. Of course I did not ride anything other than the train and sky ride but at least the kids had fun! As far as moving on to the puree stage, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! And I am sure that you should be able to find something there that is acceptable, of course you will not be able to have something to puree the food but my advice would be to stick to what the Dr says is acceptable. You should be able to find things in the park that you are allowed to eat such as just a chicken breast and cut it into small bites and chew thoroughly before swallowing. I know that it may not make much sense right now but you may want to take some plastic bags in order to put food in. I know it may sound crazy but trust me you will not even be able to finish a kids meal. I am almost four months out and there is NO way that I can finish a normal chicken breast in one sitting. Depending on what it is I may be able to eat 5 oz of foods that are soft like salad but things like protein are about 4. (just a fyi) Good luck and please make sure that you have a blender bottle and plenty of protein packets with you!!!

    October sleeve photo result.

Congratulations, I know you feel great being smaller! I knew that I was going to loose but I did not expect to see it fly off as soon as it is. Yes it is work but it is absolutely worth it! Enjoy your'e success!!! Great job!

    Freaking myself out

I am not sure what the OP is posting but I can tell you that I was drinking high protein shakes, if it was not at least 30g I did not drink it until I knew I had at least 90 grams in. I am not going to advocate any particular brand but one type I used was easily available at Walmart as well as most club stores like Costco. It has 30g of protein in 11oz, which is not hard to get down. It was a little more "loose" than the shakes my surgeon sells and came in more flavors than just chocolate and vanilla, which my tastebuds were well over after the first week of being on liquids only. It is possible you may just have to do a little research, for the best protein for the smallest package.

    Freaking myself out

At 5 days out you still have swelling, do not worry about that whatsoever. Give it 7 more days and hop back on the scale and see what it says! You are still fresh from the process, let it do its magic! You are still in the liquid phase, and those will slide right through, so you should not feel full until you start your puree phase and even then it won't be like you normally feel. You really should not be eating to get full anymore, eating for that full feeling is going to help to get you back to where you were. The main thing you need to focus on is what your body is telling you and working on not drinking too much. Right around 4-5 oz is where you should be focusing on, I am 3 months out to day day from surgery and have slowly learned to stop eating for the full feeling. When you do get full trust me it will hurt, and for quite some time. Almost feels like a heart attack, its HIGHLY uncomfortable. If you just do what they have told you then you should be fine, it is going to be harder to screw this up at this point than you think, let your body heal and get somewhat accustomed to what is going on and you will start seeing the pounds fly off. I did not notice the scale really move until about 7-10 days post surgery.

    Recent Sleever

I was sleeved on 8/21 the first week for me was the absolute pits, I had highs and lows but mainly lows. It took about 5 days for all of the gas pains to stop even with me walking quite a few miles. I know it is hard but please hang in there, after about a week you will feel better and most of your pain will be gone. I can not say how long it will be until you are 100% but what I can tell you that it will not be as long as you think. At about the two week mark I was walking about 3-5 miles several times a week. I work for a local fire department, as well as part time for a medical transport company so I lift patients in and out of the medic all day. Dr said that it would be about a 4-6 weeks before I would be cleared to go back to work. (not sure what you do just giving you a reference). Just hang in there you will be OK, just work the plan and keep moving!

    3 days out and hungry

Absolutely, the more protein that you get in the less hungry that you will feel. My surgeon wanted us to get in between 60-80 grams of protein per day. At first it was hard to get in, but then I switched to protein shakes that had at least 25 grams of protein. Protein will be the key in managing your hunger, even once you are past your liquid phase protein will be the key to keeping hunger far away.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

It has been a little over two months since surgery, down 66 pounds, feeling better, healthier and definitely happier! It has been absolutely wonderful to have to buy new clothes and not have to go to the big and tall section! Granted I have not gotten many new clothes but it is still nice. It is also wonderful knowing that for the first time in a LONG time I will be wearing sweaters and sweatshirts not because I want to cover up my "muffin top" but because I want to be comfortable! I also can not wait to emerge on the other side of winter and not have to hate not being able to hide my midsection anymore. I wish I would have done this MUCH sooner!!!!
  17. I agree with most, I weighed myself very frequently and still do! I am a little over two months out from surgery and weigh almost every day. I know it may sound crazy but it helps keep me in line. It is not hurting anything whatsoever and actually makes my day when I see the scale go down a little.

    Extra / Loose Skin

Starting weight was 338 I am currently down to 276 a little more than two months post surgery, no loose skin as of yet! However just like several others have said that does not mean that you will not have any, due to the multiple factors. If you are really curious check out videos on youtube. I currently am working out like a madman to try to loose another 6 pounds before I go see my surgeon Nov 2nd. I have been told by several reliable sources that lifting weights, not trying to lift heavy but increasing your reps and sets help tone you're muscle and assist with sagging skin. I am not lifting as of yet but focusing straight on cardio since I have enough mass, and desire to burn fat. In a few more months I will switch to doing both when I am comfortable with my endurance. I know that I may end up with some loose skin right around my belly button but that is fine, I would rather have that than all of the excess weight!
  19. I am over two months out from surgery and I have not vomited once. I felt like I was going to have to right after surgery when I did my swallow test (literally a few hours after surgery) but I did not, and was fine. Have not even had the slightest urge since then.
  20. Me personally? I would wait, that time of the year is all about family as well as good food... life as you know it is about to change and the amount of food you are about to eat will change as well! Before my first surgeon got shut down I actually told them that I would like to schedule my surgery after we were due to come back from a week long cruise. They even agreed that it was a good idea, being only able to drink a protein shake while everyone else is indulging in turkey, ham, roast, mashed taters and all the other trimmings is going to be ABSOLUTE MURDER. You will be on pretty much nothing but protein shakes for one month and it will be extra hard to stick to those while everyone else around you is eating normal food. Have one last go and schedule your surgery after the first of the year. If I were in the situation that it exactly what I would do! Good luck!!!

    Not getting full

You may want to start journaling to keep track of exactly what it is that you are eating. I am not sure if you are eating anything else other than the jerky and cheese, but if you are not then you definitely need to start getting more and better sources of protein (preferably something with fewer calories and fat than the cheese). I am currently eating about 90-120 grams of protein a day and am pretty active. The only times that I am getting hungry are when it has been 4 or more hours since I have had a shake or eaten anything. I know if I am not getting in my protein then I get hungry and can not stay full for very long, not comparing myself to you I am just letting you know how it has worked for me and hopefully that helps you out! Good luck!
  22. I know I am not @B.Annie but I can tell you that the only thing that I have been doing is working out, and making sure that I am getting my protein, water and exercise in, and I am down 60 pounds in about 8 weeks counting the pre surgery weight loss. I may not be at 100 3 months out but I do not think that I will be far from it! As I loose more weight my workouts are getting longer and I am working out more. I think that if you just stick with the program we all will drop, some more than others but the good thing is that we all will drop and be MUCH smaller versions of former selves!!
  23. Congratulations on your success!!! Job well done!
  24. I got a call from the hospital, but the Dr office did not call, the Dr is independent but works with the hospital. I was told to feel free to call at any time if I had any issues. I was just glad things were progressing well and I was not having any issues.

    Question regarding physiological appt?

This is the easy part, just relax and let it flow! As long as you are doing this for the right reasons you will be fine. My appointment took about 45 minutes from the point that I walked in the door. I did not have to do any extensive paperwork whatsoever and the process was pretty easy and painless!
