This is something serious and with the co-morbites you've mentioned your doctor should be biting at the bites to help you get rid of these life treating health issues. I too have diabetes and this surgery I'm told will eliminate it instantly! People would look at me also and say I'm vain because I don't look like I need to lose a pound much less have wls but looking healthy and being healthy is a whole nother issue. I have hypertension, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes so I'm doing what I need to do to save my life as my brother died at age 34 of diabetes and in his honor I will do whatever it takes to fight this disease and if that means wls, here I come. I too had a separate medical experience with a doctor and i didn't trust his opinion therefore i got a second opinion. I know it may be more time consuming but personally I would never want to go under the knife with a doctor that doesn't share my vision!!

Thank you so much, he lived life to the max in such a short time so I do take comfort in that. Well you are between a rock and a hard place as they say but do just what you've said you would, don't be afraid to speak your mind and always pray about anything prior to execution and Jesus will see you through.

You are so welcome. You're right I am between a rock and a hard place. I always pray before going into anything. I have to take Jesus with me and pray He will give me the correct words to say and the correct way to say them. Thank you for kindness.

  3. Hello, everyone, I am AJ Dawn and I am new here. I was doing research online for bariatric support groups and came across this community. Boy! Am I glad I did. You guys have addressed just about every worry and concern I have. I started my journey May 15th of this year and I have already been approved for my surgery. If I had know I didn't have to do the 6 month supervised diet with my doctor, I would have been approved sooner. I was already 3 months in before I found out.
I have a concern I need your help with. My insurance company, bs/bs of Alabama approved me 7/27/2017. I actually got the approval letter and my surgeons office did not, so they told me to just wait until they get theirs and they will call me to come in to get my pre op instructions and surgery date. Ok, a week and a half goes by and I still didn't hear anything from my surgeon's office. So I call them back and I got the same story, they have not gotten anything from my insurance company, so I call my insurance company back. They looked into it and told me to just tell my doctor I have been approved and they can just call them if needed, but I wasn't going back through that so I did get them to fax a copy of my approval letter to my surgeons office. Ok, another week or so goes by and still I hear nothing from my surgeon. So I gave them a call Tuesday and asked to speak with the nurse and the receptionist asked may I say whose calling, so when I gave her my name she said hold please, then she comes back to the phone and say the nurse was in with a patient, but she has faxed my information to my insurance company and is waiting on their response. I'm like what are you talking about? I have been approved they have sent you the approval letter and I have been waiting on you guys to call me for my pre op appointment Now I'm getting upset. I told the receptionist I spoke with you almost two weeks ago and you said you got the faxed approval letter and you were going to give it to the nurse, but apparently she didn't.
Ok, now I'm seeing red flags. I'm thinking should I use this guy, because his office isn't organized. So I call my insurance company and ask if I could switch surgeons because I'm not liking what I'm seeing. They told me I could switch, but would have to be approved all over again. Of course I don't want to go through that, so I do more research on my surgeon and find out he is a very well respected doctor and he is the chief of surgeon. He hasn't done very many  gastric sleeve surgeries, but he apparently knows his stuff. He's done about 30 and has gotten great reviews. I'm thinking maybe he doesn't know how his front desk is running things and maybe I shouldn't judge him, but address my concern to him.  My pre op appointment is Monday. Please tell me what you guys would do.
Sorry for the long message, but I really wanted you guys to get a feel of what I'm dealing with. Thank you all.

30 surgeries isn't very many, what other experience does he have?

I mean every surgeon only did 30 surgeries at some point, but...

Call and speak with the office manager. The office staff won't be in the OR with you so it doesn't really matter if you ruffle a few feathers.
