My goodness, that is awful, all plans should cover weight loss surgery. They don't realize in the long run it would save them money by clearing up so many of other health problems. It would mean less doctor visits and less medicine. I don't understand some insurance companies. From the first time that I thought about having the surgery to getting my surgery date which is this coming Tuesday the 19th, it only took 4 months. Good luck dear. -

@Kristi Jacobs, I am in Alabama as well. May I ask you a question if its not personal? Did you try going through your insurance company and if you did why won't they pay for your surgery. I have BCBS of Alabama, my surgery will cost around $26,000.00 and my out of pocket will only be $25.00...Thank you God!! I too have heard good and bad about Mexico, some have had the best experience that you could imagine and others have dubbed it the place from hell to have surgery. Just do your research thoroughly and ask questions, but don't just ask questions, make sure you get satisfying answers to those questions. Ask about referrals. Good luck on your journey. -

@sunflower71609, that's why only my husband and my kids know. As close as I am to my siblings and cousins, I didn't tell them. Everybody will have an opinion. My husband was never really on board with the surgery. He thinks I can just magically all of a sudden lose the weight on my own...well I tried that and it didn't work. Sometimes I hate I had to tell him, but I couldn't get around that. I will tell you like I had to tell myself, this is for me, my health depends on it and I'm going to do this with a smile on my face. I'm ready to start living the rest of my life as a normal or at this point an under weight person, just not an over weight person ever again. You do you honey and don't let anyone stop you. Sometimes I wonder if peoples opinions are out of joyously of what you're gonna look like after the weight is loss. -

Congratulations!!!! I am so happy for you and I am so happy everything went so well and you are doing this great one day after surgery. My date is next Tuesday, the 19th. Boy, I hope I come through as well as you! -
@dreamingsmall. I didn't say he wasn't going to do the surgery, I said I hope he takes out enough stomach. But that was me being all in my feelings. He will have to much to lose if he purposely didn't do the surgery correctly. No, I don't really think he would do that. At our meeting yesterday, I simply asked him out of the surgeries he's performed, has there been any complications were a patient has needed an endoscopy to see what the problem was? He assured me there hasn't been and I expressed my concerns to him in a very professional manner...of course I didn't say I hope you don't leave to much stomach in. "Mama ain't raise no fool". LOL!! I asked him to tell me again just how much stomach will be removed and he told me the usual is 75%. I feel much better after speaking with him and his nurse yesterday. Put me under and go golfing...you're hilarious!! LOL!!

What do you guys think of this situation?: My surgeon doesn't seem to think I really need the surgery. I am 5'2", I weigh 204, my BMI is 35.6, but I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol , severe sleep apnea. acid reflux, and a pre diabetic. I'm one of the lucky ones, if you want to call it lucky; my body has a lot of muscle and hardly any flab, so I don't look as big as I am, but that still shouldn't make him judge me the way I feel he did. I think he thinks I'm being vain, but I told him I have been feeling horrible lately due to the extra weight and health problems. I pray he does the surgery right and don't leave to much stomach in. I just don't feel like going back through all this to use another surgeon. My insurance company said I could, but everything would have to be resubmitted and approved again. What would you guys do in this case? I know doctors take an oath of ethics, but as we know not all of them live by it.

I loveeee the Whey Rich Chocolate protein mix. I swear it taste just like chocolate milk. I mix it with 1% milk, since I can't seem to find the skim milk. I will start using the 0% milk after my surgery. -

September 19 in the house!!! 8th day on liquid diet. I want a piece of fruit so bad. -
Hello, I am on day eight and it has been so hard, but I have not cheated not one time. So far today has been a good day, I find that keeping busy makes it much easier. The weekend was a big challenge, but since I'm back working today, it has been easy breezy today. I haven't been hungry since I started on the two week liquid diet, I can have all the liquids I want, but its the cravings that's getting me.

@travelgirl, I agree with you 100%. I have a meeting with him Tuesday. If I still get this feeling from him and feel nothing was resolved, as much as I would hate to put my surgery off I will for my peace of mind.

@SIPS in Seattle,@NewShauna, if after our meeting I'm still feeling this way, I will let him know I will not be using him. I have two surgeons lined up to talk with. NewShauna, he is suppose to take off 75% of my stomach. I will let him know that's what I want and I will be getting an endoscopy done to make sure everything was done correctly.

@tenseintexas, @Sosewsue61 and @dagirl92, thank you all for your advice. @Sosewsue61, I have a meeting set up with him Tuesday and I'm going to lay it on the line to him. You're right, I won't get emotional because then he'll say I'm unstable and need to talk to a physiatrist. I don't take this lightly, this is for my health. Just because I don't look like the average WLS patient on the outside, my insides say something totally different.

You should call your surgeon ASAP. You don't want infection to set up. You have enough to get through with your healing from the surgery itself. In my opinion incisions shouldn't be opening up like that. -
I am so happy everything worked out for you. I'm going to voice my concerns for sure and you're right a lower BMI shouldn't prevent me from having the surgery or the life I deserve. I'm going to tell him that and more. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.

There is no way he can fake my surgery right? I mean others will be in the operating room with him. Oh my gosh! I hate I have let my mind wonder off like this. Now I'm really worried. I'm about to give his office a call. I need to express my concerns and let him know just where I stand and if he feel like he can't give me the respect and peace of mind I need, I will get another surgeon.

I feel like crying. My heart is telling me to find another surgeon, but my mind and situation is telling me to stay with him. I don't have the time to take off my job to do the leg work of finding another surgeon and I don't have the money for test he might want ran. My primary health doctor is friends with my surgeon, maybe I can express my concerns with him and have him talk to my surgeon as well.

I'm glad everything worked out for you. Which part do you agree on, I should find another surgeon or tell him I'm gonna get a endoscopy done to make sure everything was done right?

I am so happy everything worked out for you. I have my surgery day, September 19 and started my pre-op liquid diet yesterday. I think what I'll tell him is, I'm gonna get and endoscopy done to make sure everything was done as it should be. How much stomach is suppose to be removed? Is it 85%?

Please pray for me. I started my two week pre op liquid diet today...yep, on Labor Day.I think my doctor has it out for me. LOL! Everyone around me are eating barbecue and licking their fingers. That's okay, I GOT THIS!!!!

This is something serious and with the co-morbites you've mentioned your doctor should be biting at the bites to help you get rid of these life treating health issues. I too have diabetes and this surgery I'm told will eliminate it instantly! People would look at me also and say I'm vain because I don't look like I need to lose a pound much less have wls but looking healthy and being healthy is a whole nother issue. I have hypertension, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes so I'm doing what I need to do to save my life as my brother died at age 34 of diabetes and in his honor I will do whatever it takes to fight this disease and if that means wls, here I come. I too had a separate medical experience with a doctor and i didn't trust his opinion therefore i got a second opinion. I know it may be more time consuming but personally I would never want to go under the knife with a doctor that doesn't share my vision!!

Thank you so much, he lived life to the max in such a short time so I do take comfort in that. Well you are between a rock and a hard place as they say but do just what you've said you would, don't be afraid to speak your mind and always pray about anything prior to execution and Jesus will see you through.
