6 month update, pic and question

    You look great. Well done!
  2. I can't offer any medical advise, I read you post and I wanted to say I'm sorry for your losses. You have had a very rough few years. Thinking of you.

    SASI bypass

I've never heard of that procedure. Good luck on your journey.

    When did people notice?

When I lost 15 kg I started to get comments.

    Self-pay vs. Insurance

I don't really understand the health insurance system in the US. (It confuses me to know end that you could have insurance but get denied a procedure). Regardless, I would be apprehensive not having the surgery done locally. I'm 4 months post op and the post op support I've had from my team has been invaluable.

    Personal sleeve question

I had a high starting BMI and my surgeon recommended a sleeve as current research shows only a slight difference in outcomes at 5 yrs post surgery. The bypass can have more side effects etc. I'm 4 months post op and I've lost 45 kg (100 pounds). I am confident that this is the best decision I've ever made in my life. This is a big decision and you need to be comfortable in the decision you make. Best wishes.
  7. I'm 4 months post op so I can't really comment about long term hunger. At this point I rarely hungry. I can say that I can now go out with friends for a meal and not worry about it. I usually order an entree and that is the perfect size for me. I can eat anything I like, no food causes me any problems. I am confident getting my sleeve is the best decision I've ever made. This is a big decision and good luck on what ever you decide.

    Struggling

I'm 4 months post op, all up I've lost 45 kg. (100 pounds). I've had 2 major stalls of 2 -3 weeks. Each time I rebounded to have major losses. I know its really frustrating but stalls are a normal part of the process, your body takes time to adjust. Stick with your program and you will be fine.

I want to have 1 drink

I had 2 drinks today with my Xmas lunch, over the space of about 3 hours. The drinks hit me a bit faster then normal, similar to if you were drinking on an empty stomach. All up I was fine and it wasn't a big deal.

    Christmas Menu

I was really worried about Xmas day, but to my surprise Xmas lunch went really well. I had mostly prawns, and because they are so fiddly to shell it took along time to have my meal, so I didn't feel I was missing out on anything. Merry Christmas

    Which recovery was worse?

I can only speak about the sleeve, , my recovery was very easy. The only medication I took was Pandadol for about 12 hours, I was ready to go back to work after 3 days. (I have a desk job). Good luck with your surgeries.

    Advice on the gastric sleeve/location

Hi, I got my sleeve 4 months ago and have lost 45 kg (100 pounds). It is by far the best decision I've ever made, I haven't regretted it for a minute. I had a great surgeon who was very supportive and provides excellent followup. Good luck on your journey!

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

It's 7:00 am Christmas morning and I'm having a coffee before I head over to my brothers house for some Christmas cheer. This year my family is doing the traditional thing and having a hot lunch. This isn't the norm in Australia, and to be honest it seems strange. I'm going to miss our usual seafood feast. After lunch we are off to the beach for a swim which will be fun. I'm just glad its not going to be too hot today. Have a great Christmas August Sleever's!

PROs VS Cons - Would love some advice

Elective surgery is a big decision. I can't give you any advice on costs or insurance as I don't understand the US system. I had the sleeve 4 months ago, I was very nervous about having the surgery and it was fist suggested by my GP over 5 yrs ago. It took me 5 yrs to make an appointment to see a surgeon. So far I've lost 44 kg so far (I think that's about 97 pounds.) I feel great. I still have a long way to go, but I'm noticing the health benefits already. My knees and back hurt less, my blood pressure and blood sugar were borderline high and are now back to 'normal'. I wish I had this done 5 yrs ago, it is by far the best decision I've made in my life. I felt 100% 3 days after surgery, no pain, just a little tired.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

LaLaDee - I hear you! I feel exactly the same as you. My focus has dropped these last couple of weeks. I really need to get back on track. I can't wait for this xmas period to be over.
  19. Hi, I had my sleeve surgery in August. I am on medication for Bipolar and Seizures. My Doctor's didn't want me to miss any of my medication. I took it the morning of the surgery with a tiny sip of water and then the day after the surgery the nurses cut the medication in half, after that I took my medication as normal. No problems at all. Good luck with your journey!

    Medical Leave from Work

I have a very technical, demanding desk based job. I took 2 weeks off but honestly could have gone back after 3 -4 days. I had the sleeve.
  23. I love this thread .... When I get to my goal weight I'd love to go to NY. I've always wanted to go there. It's a long way from my home in Australia, and right now I wouldn't be comfortable in a plane seat for that long. While I'm there I'd love to go shopping, clothes in the US are so much cheaper! I like the idea the poster above had about the Pandora charms for each 25 kg lost ... a great motivation when you have a lot to lose. My final goal ... just participating in life more!
