  1. Hi there! I had my gastric sleeve procedure on 10/30. I lost 10 lbs before the procedure and 10 lbs following it (first 2-3 days). It's been over 5 weeks and I haven't lost a single pound. I don't exercise, get about 500-600 calories a day. Not enough Water though. But I've attempted fixing all that and still nothing. I'm hypothyroid and insulin resistant. Have you any words of advice for me? I'm going crazy here. The doctor's office wants me to wait until next week to "look over the diet". That is not going to help. I've been following the diet. Just hasn't worked.
  2. I will do that. It is hard for me to get the water in though. I agree with you. Something seems to be the issue and I can't seem to figure out what.
  3. I understand it isn't the norm. But something is not right here and I don't know what. I know for a fact that I don't meet my protein and water goals or exercise. Until I can fix all that, I really cannot honestly say I've tried everything.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

While I'm happy to see everyone else's successes, my surgery has been a failure. I had my sleeve surgery on 10/30 and have lost only the 10 lbs (that was the first week). No loss since. And I have to take more medication since the hormonal changes they expected after the surgery never happened. I'm doing everything like they asked. I'm hypothyroid and have insulin resistance. Don't know why I can't lose weight like the others.
  6. I had the gastric sleeve on Oct 30 and have not lost any weight since the initial 10 lbs. I'm eating right, but not exercising. Also, my water intake may be lower than required. I'm hypothyroid and that may be one of the reasons I'm not losing any weight. But this is so frustrating. The nutritionist wants me to wait for 2 more weeks before discussing options, to allow the stomach to heal. I did post here before and people said I maybe a slower than average loser. But I don't see the scale moving at all. I'm not sure what to do.

    Started period

@HealthierLifestyle2018 I had surgery Oct 30 and started my period on November 1. Lasted a couple of days. It is quite normal.
  8. @jenn1 No restrictions on exercise, except I don't do any. Have to start. @dr3am3rstarz My bowel movements are normal. Thanks guys for posting your suggestions. Helps a bit. I'll be patient.
  9. I was sleeved on 10/30. It was a Monday. By 11/2, I had lost 10 pounds and since then, have gained 2 lbs, with no loss. The doctor's office casually tells me it will be 6 weeks before I lose any weight. I wrote here on week 2 and a few of you including @Berry78 reassured me. But I have not been walking and maybe am a little short of my water intake. Today, I started blended foods, although I have no problem with solids (I snacked on a few Ritz crackers). Everyone says VSG is a tool. Truth be told, I opted for it so I could have a jumpstart with my weight loss, since like many others here, I have tried so many times. Two things though- one I hate walking- have no energy for it thanks to my depression and chronic fatigue. And second, I cannot resist some crackers now and then. I take my multivitamins and others whenever I remember to. But honestly I wish something would shift soon. My starting weight was 262 lbs. I was down to 253.4 lbs with my liquid pre-op diet. I was down to 242 lbs. on 11/2 and am currently at 244 lbs. I am hypothyroid and am going to get checked pretty soon. Can anyone relate? How do I start walking slowly? Have a full-time job and an exam coming up too. That isn't helping.

Week 4 & no weight loss

Thank you @Berry78 and @Introversion. I'm having my thyroid checked on 11/28. I'll also call the NUT to learn more about nutrition. For now, I'm walking and following the recommendations.
  11. I was sleeved on October 30. I started at 262 lbs. Was down to 253 pre surgery and dropped to 242 the first week. I’m not meeting my liquid and protein goals but am trying. I have since gained 5 lbs. on the clear liquid diet. I’m puzzled and concerned. Did anyone else experience this? I’ve heard of stalls but not gains so close to the surgery. @Berry78 do you have any advice for me?

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I had my surgery on 10/30. No complications. But have a hard time meeting my hydration and protein goals. I lost 9 lbs. on pre op diet and 11 lbs. since the surgery. But two days ago I hit a stall and I’m now up 2 lbs. it fluctuates. Glad to have found this thread and shared.

Thank you @Berry78. I'm going to ask my surgeon for it.

    Is Actigall Necessary?

@Berry78 My surgeon has not prescribed any medications for preventing gallstones and I'm concerned. Do you take any?

Mine is on October 30th. Scared to bits.
  23. @mikey701 Did you receive your order from Jet.com? How do the multivitamins compare to over-the- counter stuff?
  24. New, Need help!!!

I'm at the pre-op stage. Still waiting to get all my tests (cardiac, sleep study) done. I'm self-paying, so expect the surgery to be sometime in September. My question at the first doctor's visit was about my low metabolism and lack of hunger. I suffer from depression which has affected my ability to get hungry and eat nutritious meals. Also, I have a low metabolism from hypothyroidism. I weigh 252 lbs. Goal weight is 160 lbs. And height is 5' 9". My question is would the sleeve work for me? The surgeon thinks it will. I'm concerned I will be one of those people struggling to lose a couple pounds a month after surgery. And there is no going back. I can't restrict any more calories than I can after I'm sleeved. Anyone have any insights on this? Thanks in advance.

The sleeve will reset your set-point.. maybe not all the way to goal, but likely to under 200lbs. So you will lose a significant amount of weight. Whether you keep it off is up to you and your willingness to make permanent dietary changes. You likely won't be hungry much postop, but you have to eat nutritious meals anyway. Vitamins, etc. The sleeve is probably a good fit since it's more forgiving with dietary indescretions than the bypass.

Surgery doesn't fix depression, and it could make it worse. Please make sure you have a solid plan for emotional support.

I also have hypothyroidism. Because of that, I opted for a procedure that also uses mal-absorption to kind of help with the "handicap" we have with our metabolism in the hopes that when I'm maintaining my weight, it will come in handy. I also wanted dumping syndrome as a reminder to stay on track.

However, I know people who are in our situation have had success with the sleeve... my point is, it really is just a personal choice. They can all work if we use it as a tool and put the work in. What may be a negative to one person, may be a positive for someone else.
