I feel restriction only on heavy Proteins like chicken, tuna fish, but only if I go over 4-5 oz. In my case, I don't feel it immediately, it takes more than half an hour to feel it, therefore I have to be careful. Certain fruits like pineapple also weights on my stomach. I wouldn't describe it as painful, but more like pressure.

Wondering if any esg patients can tell me what restriction should feel like when starting purée diet? I had a weetbix and milk and later a scrambled egg today be really didn't feel restricted or "full" at any time? Is this normal? I have been compliant with fluids only for 2.5 weeks with no vomiting so assume I have not stretched anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 😬

My doctor has you nil orally for the first two days to reduce pain and nausea and let the sutures heal. So it would be impossible not to get dehydrated without the fluids, other drs may do it differently. First six months is when most of the wt should move however I'm told you lose for about 18 months. If a smoothie can fit through a strainer then it's ok.

    Hi Melesg
to be truthful I have days where the hunger is huge and others when I forget to eat. Hormones play a big role in what's going on. As I found out 2 weeks ago.
    Hope that helps

I've tried the Vitamin Water Zero and didn't like it very much. I love plain ole water or even unsweetened iced tea. I could probably do the Greek yogurt with cinnamon.

Do you set a limit to carbs every day?

Enjoy that food funeral Kiki! I'm day six of my pre op diet and finding it tough going today. It must be really disappointing to be delayed, I hope it is smooth sailing from here. Mel.

@Belle3endosleeve My follow up sounds similar. Need to meet with the psychologist and nutritionist regularly. Which I am greatful for. It's a whole body re-education that will hopefully change my habits forever. Program success appears to correlate with ongoing follow up, the more frequent you see your team the higher the chance of success!

My husband is so supportive too., we are lucky! He loves me as I am would never say I needed to loose weight. I want to feel healthy and be an example to our children. Of course my husband is in amazing shape and eats whatever he wants. Men!! My program does require follow up appointment and working together with a nutritionist as well. Feels like a pretty comprehensive plan to support me after the procedure is completed !! How about yours?

@Belle3endosleeve Ah, now that is smart. And it's true, we will be going hard at losing weight. It's not untrue to say we are eating much less and moving much more. It is interesting the idea that surgery is the "easy option". Seems far from easy to me. I have an amazing husband who tells me that it's a really brave choice, to give up something that you love (too much food) forever. And that gives me great perspective. It's true, we will need new coping strategies when food is no longer the reward or consolation prize.
Does your program require ongoing appointments with a psychologist and nutritionist?

I'm 5'9 and 108 kg - hopefully not for long though. Have you told many people about the procedure yet? How much time are you taking off to recover? Is it nuts that I feel like life is about to begin all over again?? I'm so excited that we are doing this together!

@melesg. Ahhh I just got so excited reading this...it's all so intense but is going to be THE turning point in our lives...where we got healthy for our kids, ours selves and our husbands!!! I have no pre-procedure diet but post is intense: day 1 nothing, day 2 clear liquid only, day 3-30 puréed liquid diet only. So I'm thinking Soups, Protein Shakes etc. I'm somewhat lactose intolerant so God help me ...as so many liquids have dairy. WeGOT this girl! So exciting...I weigh 192 & am 5'6. How about you?

    Hi Belle3endosleeve,
Thanks so much for your reply. I am almost 42, also have 3 kids and bmi is currently 36. I am about the start the 2 week pre procedure diet which is 2 shakes and a meal with 200g Protein and non starchy veg. My dr has a very strict post procedure diet of 4 weeks liquid only, so I imagine it's going to be a tough month! And the worst is no drinking even Water for the first 2 days. We are booked into a clinic for IV fluids only.
what is your pre and post procedure diet like?

Melesg reacted to Brit in Oz in Alternative to optifast soup for post op plication Australia
Hi, I'm in Australia and am 2 days post op from gastric plication with Dr Oliver Florica. Any feedback on plication in Australia would be most welcome. I'm doing ok, finding my way, and am happy to answer any questions for anyone considering plication in Australia.
I have 3 weeks of Protein Shakes ahead of me now and am already a bit bored with them since doing 2 weeks of them before my op. They are effective, I lost 5 kgs pre op and 3kgs in the 2 days post op (not managing more than 1/2 shake all day at the moment). I tried the Optifast Soup before my op and it wasn't very nice. Just wondering if there's an alternative soup to try? It would just be nice to have a few mouthfuls of something savoury instead of the overly sweet shakes I'm on.
Would be great to connect with others from Australia who have had plication and hear how you're all going. All the best with your weight loss.
