  1. I definately hit the 3 weeks stall. Havent lost anything in about a week. I watched a very informative video on YouTube from a bariatric surgeon named Dr. V about working out Post-Op. Your/My body isnt taking in enough calories to make working out productive. Walking for 20-30 mins is ok cause that speeds up your heart and will burn fat but anything else will burn muscle cause the body will go into starvation mode and eat your muscle. Dr Duc C Vuong check out the video on Working out after Gastric Sleeve. Now this all depends on your caloric intake. Now that ive moved on too soft foods I can only take in 1200 calories at most a day. Thats all my sleeve will fit .

I’m sorry you are having a stall, I hope next week more than makes up for it. I will Check that video out, thank you.

    Have a great day!

  2. I had my sleeve done, morning 10/26....now it is 10/28. I came home yesterday. Some pain, trying to walk and use incentive spiromotry, coughing is a bit hard due to sore abdomen. Not to be gross...but having loose liquid stools.

I just want a few days to go by, so I feel more normal. It's not horrible, but getting a lot of belly gurgling and it is tough to take sips.

I wrote that yesterday and I think I forgot to post it...It is now the evening of 10/29 and I feel a lot better. I am contemplating going into work for a one hour meeting/presentation...then back home to rest

Also, is anyone starting a FB page for us October sleevers? If not I'll set one up!

I am glad that you are doing so much better and might be able to go back to work. That gives me hope for a quick return as well.

  3. I had my sleeve done on Mon (10/23), and things have been going very well. The day of surgery was rough and i had A LOT of nausea after surgery. The nausea went away after about 12 hours and everything has been rather easy since. I have had no issues with nausea, gas or pain since coming home, I have not vomited once since the day of surgery, have not needed any pain meds since leaving the hospital, and seem to have nearly as much energy as I did before the sleeve.

I initially gained about 8 pounds immediately after surgery (as expected), but as of this morning I am down 8 pounds. I feel fortunate, because I have not had any issues tolerating anything yet, and have been able to get all of my Water and nutrients in with ease. I hope things continue to be this easy.

That is wonderful! I am so happy for you, hoping I will have the same surgery story as you [emoji1360]

  4. My psych needed to sign off on me, she sent something to my surgeon that said I don’t have an eating disorder, and the worst thing I am addicted to is carbs. She didn’t make final decision on me having surgery but if I did have (past or present) an eating disorder or an addiction to drugs/alcohol she would not recommend me for surgery.

  5. When I got my surgery date I went on a food farewell tour. Went to all my favorite restaurants and ate my favorite foods. I felt that I probably wouldnt be going back to those restaurants or eating those foods. Six weeks post op I’m feeling good about the surgery and best of all I dont miss the restaurants or food.
From what I’m reading food funerals or farewell tours aren’t unusual.

My surgery isn’t until 11/21 but I had Panda Express Orange chicken today. I don’t plan on doing a food farewell tour but we are having an early Thanksgiving before I start my liquid diet. My excuse is I want to make one last batch of Bone Broth from the turkey bones & turkey Soup. I love turkey so not being able to eat it for Thanksgiving will be torture.

  6. I have had a few people ask for my recipes, and I’ve asked for a few as well, so I thought I’d start a thread for Bone Broth recipes. I use an instapot but you can use a crock pot or just a pot on the stove. The stove top process will take longer but should have the same results. For the chicken one I bought 2 roasted chickens from Sams club and after we ate the meat I used the bones. For beef I went to the local meat market and bought a stew bone, I didn’t like the finished product so I’m going to try the Asian market. For pork I used 3 ham hocks.

For all my broths I just combine veggies that I would put in Soup (carrots, celery, mushrooms, onions, broccoli etc), herbs (bay leaf, thyme etc), about 2 chicken skeletons worth of bones and enough Water to cover the bones. I use the soup setting on the instapot to cook it well done for 1 hour. When it’s done I take out the veggies & herbs and replace with fresh, I do this 2 more times with the same bones & liquid. After they cook through 3-4 times I strain the juices into a separate pot and discard the rest, add salt & pepper to taste & let it cool. Once it has cooled there will be a layer of fat on top, just remove it and discard it.

I added the broth into soup containers I found on Amazon and froze them. I have used some of it to make Soups and saved some for the liquid diet stage. When using it for the liquid diet stage warm it up to below 140 degrees, anything hotter will denature the Protein you will be adding to it. Mix in enough tasteless Protein Powder to achieve your protein needs. I believe the website I checked said it should contain 17g of protein but definitely research it, I could be wrong. I have made beef (still looking for recipes, mine was not good), chicken (yum!), pork broths and from those I’ve also made ham/bean soup, turkey zuppa toscana, chicken soup and pumpkin butternut squash soup. I ran half of each batch of soup through the food processor for the purée stage. Feel free to add your own recipes to this thread, we can help each other through this . 7. I’m in the same situation and wondering the same thing. I’m going to call my doc and ask which weight is used for insurance clearance and will the preop diet disqualify me if I fall under 30 BMI. I started at a 41 and I’m barely a 40 now, any gain and my surgery is cancelled.

HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017

My doc called me back and said that I should try to stay above 40 until the 7 day liquid diet, just incase my comorbidities don’t count for my insurance. I am focusing on prepping meals/bone broths for after surgery and taking notes on things that will be helpful to me before and after surgery.

  8. I'm right there with you still having to feed a family - I think I've tried most of the services but I'm currently using Gobble. It makes meal prep easier in general but I'm hoping it helps the pre/post op transition - so the fam will have the meals and I'll have the Soups (with added Protein powder). Amanda, I love the thanksgiving idea and that you're a planner too! I may just have to copy you. Looks like we're going to be great support to one another [emoji4] Talk soon!

Ok I was inspired by your post and I made a butternut squash and pumpkin soup...how have I never eaten this!?! It was amazing, hoping I can keep myself from eating it all before my surgery [emoji23]. I am sure that having a meal prep plan would make things so much easier and more manageable. I always try to plan ahead but it rarely works out as planned, I always seem to be missing something. I definitely have my foods planned out now to work on the family lol

  9. Surgery Was on 10/03, down 25.6 lbs. Weight loss slowed this week, but I am losing inches. I feel great. Red meat doesn't sit well with me nor does cheating by trying to sample bad choices, so yep...I stopped that nonsense. I finally got a small hunger feeling this week, but no cravings. I didn't see a difference, but others notice. So, I took a photo today and put it side by side with a before VSG pic and it is insane to see the face behind the extra lbs. How are you all doing? #wecandoit

  10. My NUT recommended the Premier Protein ones from Sams club and I really like them. I am a coffee drink and in school, so I use 2 Protein drinks (usually caramel or chocolate) and use them to flavor my morning latte which is about 11 oz. All together it makes a 33 oz latte which I keep in a stainless steel vacuum insulated bottle and sip on from about 6 am-10:30 am. That keeps me full and focused on school and gets me through until my break at 11, I eat lunch at about 12 snack around 2 and I’m good until school is out at 4. I carry a coffee bottle and water bottle around all morning and a second bottle of Water around late afternoon & evening. I am not a big Breakfast eater so my NUT is happy that I am getting my protein in the form of my coffee. She wants me on Decaf by my surgery date (11/21) and for at least 6 weeks after. I will just wean myself to decaf and keep it up.
For powder I have tasteless Isopure and I plan to add it to my bone broths and water when I hit the liquid stage, since my mornings are covered. It was cheap on Amazon, I haven’t tried it yet (saving for liquid stage) but if it is tasteless it should be fine for me. Curious to hear what others suggest [emoji177]

  11. [mention=322457]CamillaCallie[/mention]so far I have stuck to it. 15pounds down. Don't ask how I am getting through this but I am. I don't see it getting any better but what can I do. I don't workout I walk a lot. If we get pass this test we can pass anything after. Nov 8th can't come quick enough.

Wow you still have 11 more days and you’ve already lost 15 lbs, that is fantastic! Awesome job [emoji1360]

  12. I started with raw, unpeeled shrimp, onions, carrots, celery, mushrooms, garlic cloves, and tomatoes. I let that boil for about an hour and then added salt, pepper, cumin, crushed red pepper, and parsley. Boiled that for another hour or two-I didn't put on a timer. Once strained, I was surprised by how great it was. That's the first time I had made broth from scratch and I just put in whatever I liked, so I was happy it turned out. I like spicy, but I'll leave the crushed red pepper out during the post-op healing time. I've got another week on the pre-op liquid diet to enjoy it.

Awesome thank you so much! I will have to make some. I made butternut squash and pumpkin Soup yesterday and healthy zuppa toscana today for the freezer. I blended them up really smooth for the purée stage [emoji177]

  13. I just got my FMLA paperwork to complete before my surgery. I'm a bean counter and basically spend my days glued to my desk. I also moonlight as a waitress on Saturday nights. I'm guessing that it will take me longer to get back to working at the restaurant. For my regular job I'm thinking if I'm having surgery on a Tuesday that I could possibly go back the following Monday...6 days?? How long were you out of work and what industry are you in?
    Thanks [emoji16]

My surgeon says I am not allowed to lift anything heavier than my purse for 2 weeks. I am a college student right now so I will be going back 7 days post op and using a rolling back pack for the last few weeks of school. My doc doesn’t want me to go back so soon but he knows I don’t have much choice since I’m in school and will get dropped.
