    Broth Recommendations

Ohh shrimp, great idea! I may have to try that, I’m a few weeks from my liquid diet so I’m trying to make a variety of them. What veggies did you use? Have a great day! Amanda [emoji16] HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017. Goal weight 150’ish [emoji23]

    Broth Recommendations

That sounds wonderful, I will have to try that. I used a huge beef bone from a local slaughter house but it wasn’t very good. Just a solid bone, uncut ☹️ I will try the Asian market [emoji1360] Have a great day! Amanda [emoji16] HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017. Goal weight 150’ish [emoji23]

    Caffeine withdrawal

I started off with half caffeine & half decaf for 1 week, the second week I went to 1/4 caffeine 3/4 decaf and the third week was full decaf. I thought my surgery was going to be in early October so I quit in September, I will be starting the process over again in October. Have a great day! 5. How are you doing? How are you feeling? How are you planning for surgery? Has your pre-op diet started yet? My surgery is scheduled for early morning on the 21st of November. I am excited and nervous and trying to plan ahead. My pre-op diet is only 7 days, so it starts the 13th and ends at midnight on the 20th, no food afterwards. My pre-op class is on the 11th and all of my post op appointments are set as well. I made bone broth using beef bones (I hate it!), chicken bones (holy yumminess!) and ham hocks (soooooooo good!). I also made some cream soups for the freezer for when I am allowed to eat them. I plan to make refried beans & also a pumpkin/butternut squash soup that I read about on another thread. I am trying to figure out what exactly to pack for the hospital. I want to take school stuff (I’m in college) but I doubt I will have the focus to study. Are you planning to take anything for entertainment or do you think you will just rest? Have a great day! Amanda [emoji16] HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017. November sleevers!

Yay surgery buddies! It does sound easier to have to buy everything through them. I think I will leave the studying for when I get home, the more I think about it the better resting sounds lol. Gastric Sleeve through the VA

My initial appt with my surgeon & nutritionist was in early August. I had all of my labs done the following day. I’ve had a monthly nutrition appt in Sept & Oct, Psych eval in Sept and my final doc appt in early October. That day I scheduled my surgery and the surgeon sent his recommendation to Tricare. I received my approval letter within a week. I am going through Tricare Standard though, which means I’m using a civilian surgeon/hospital. Have a great day! Gastric Sleeve through the VA

My husband is retired and we are on Tricare Standard. My requirements were 3 months of nutritional counseling, surgical consults, a psych consult, upper GI and blood tests. After all of that my surgery date was set for November 21st. My BMI was at a 41 when I started and it is just over 40 now, I do not have any of the comorbidities listed on the Tricare website. I did try a few times while hubby was active duty, to have WLS but I backed out every time I lost 15-20 lbs. Have a great day! Amanda [emoji16] HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017. November sleevers!

I will keep the Sam’s Club broth in mind incase my taste changes or I run out of mine. That is great that your hospital supplies all of that. Have a great day! Amanda [emoji16] HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017. Goal weight 150’ish [emoji23]

  12. Ugh lesson learned! I have been eating pretty healthy for the last 3 months, not adding butter or salt etc to foods, cutting carbs and avoiding extra fatty greasy foods. Today I decided to make one of my old unhealthy go to snacks, big mistake! I feel horrible 🤢 I couldn’t even finish it, giving it to the dogs. I don’t know why I decided to eat it but I won’t be making that mistake again. I guess I needed a reminder to stick to the plan, it’s there for a reason. I do not think I will be having an unhealthy “last supper” I do not like this feeling. Now I’m wondering how I ever ate that stuff, this does not feel good at all 🤢

    Writing this one down lol

Since I ate that I started paying attention to other things as well. I started thinking about what I could eat to “soak up” the greasy salty feeling, everything that came to mind was equally as gross and would start a cycle of eating poorly to fix the last poor meal I ate. In the past I would’ve eaten those things, now I plan to get rid of them and not bring them back. I’m glad that after all of these years I am finally starting to understand, I don’t know why it took me so long. Have a great day! Amanda [emoji16] HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017. any November 2017 sleevers?

That actually sounds delicious, I might have to look that one up! I have a pumpkin & a butternut squash [emoji177]. I will still be cooking for my hubby & kids during pre-op and after surgery, which doesn’t sound good considering I won’t be able to eat any of it. I told hubby that I am taking Thanksgiving off since I can’t lift the turkey. I plan to prep most of the sides if possible before I leave for the hospital, that way we can just heat/eat...or in my case heat and drink lol. Have a great day! Favorite Broth?????

I made my own bone broth. I used the bones of 2 roasted chickens, a few carrots, celery, onions, garlic and some herbs and spices. Put it all in my instapot with enough water to cover it all and let it cook for an hour, then I’d switch out the veggies & herbs and do it again 2 more times. I strained out the liquids and discarded the rest, salt and pepper to taste. I will add tasteless protein powder as I heat it up, add it only to mildly warm broth as the protein will break down in boiling water. Have a great day! pr op

My doctor said I am not allowed to have fruit of any kind, in any way, shape or form for six months after surgery. They want me off of fruit now as well (pre-op) but this might just be the way this practice does it. Every doctor, every surgery & every diet is different; definitely check your pre-op packet or call your doc first. You’ve come too far to lose your surgery because of applesauce [emoji6] Have a great day! Amanda [emoji16] HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017
