    Unable to tolerate meat!?!?

Try this one and add 1/4 cup of soy protein and do not put the sugar! You will love it! Promise! If you don’t find an ingredient, just skip it! It will be good anyways! http://www.cilantroandcitronella.com/vegan-thai-coconut-soup/

    Unable to tolerate meat!?!?

Sure! 1/4 of Cup of soy proteins has 23 g of proteins! You can make a light sauce with a little bit of almond milk and the soy proteins and add salt nutmeg and cook some small vegetables! You can eat edamame! It’s delicious and very high in protein, tofu! You can blend the tofu very well with herbs, salt, black pepper then empty small tomatoes and stuff them with the blended tofu. Hummus, lentils (1/4 cup red lentils have 13-14 g of proteins! Super easy to cook) , almonds... trust me! With plant based diet it’s super easy, tolerable and effective. My starting weight was around 285 pounds, at the surgery 245 (sept 2017) and now I am 172. I am male, 32 yo, 5’11”... please let me know if I can further help!

    Unable to tolerate meat!?!?

I had my gastric bypass on sept the 5th. I am vegan and I started to have solid food 4 weeks after the surgery. Since then I never missed my protein goal (60g/day); not a single day.

    September Bypass Buddies

Hi! I had my bypass on 9/5. I am 5'11' and in February i was over 285 lbs. On September the 5th, thanks to the pre-op diet i reached 250 lbs (-35lb in 7 months). I also became fully vegan in June. These past two months, since my surgery day, have been really interesting to me. Bean soups are my best friends as well. I can have 1 full cup of them easily. I still drink 1 plant based protein shake a day (breakfast) and/or 1 plant based protein bar a day. I can eat more than I expected, and I tolerate small amount of sugar and fat. When i eat solid food, unless it is crunchy i can tolerate less than half a cup. I hurted my self 2-3 times by eating too fast and it was a very unpleasant sensation. I keep track of nutrients and calories. My surgeon is impressed by the fact that I daily reach around 70g of proteins in less than 1000kcal. I am pretty happy. This morning my weight was 199 (-51 lbs in two months, - 86 since February) and I am about to get ready for my cycling class. Tomorrow I have another checkup and I'll go through some blood tests and stuff and I am confident they will be great. The past one were perfect and I have no issue with my vitamins or water input. Good luck to all of you. Here a couple of picture of before/after
  6. Thusday 9/5 they performed gastric bypass on me. Two hours later I was walking and the pain was controlled by me with a PCA. I arrived home on 9/7 after I drank at the hospital 21 oz in 9 hours. No nausea, no vomit, no pain. I am drinking water relatively easily and I tolerate it pretty well. Around 4-5 oz in 15-20 minutes. But then I have to stop and rest for 30-40 minutes. Proteins is more difficult. I can have 1 oz in 15 minutes and then I am full (I guess it is "fullness" it is a more sensation of pressure, very light pain on the left upper quadrant of the abdomen) So I barely reach 35oz a day and I don't reach 20g of proteins. So far no poop, just gas. Little pee but also I don't drink a lot in a day. When I will be able to drink 1 oz gulping it? When I'll be able to drink more water?
  7. Hello! I had by pass on the 5th, 18 days ago. I did 7 days post op of just liquids, 7 days purees and now I am on soft food. On the 4th I was 239 and after 1 week after I went down to 226. It was the 12th. Since then I didn't lose a single pound. It is a little depressing also because for me it's difficult to reach 1000 kcal a day as my surgeon told me to do.... I am pretty active and i walk every day: I don't feel like going to the gym doing cardio unless I hit those 1000 calories. Is this normal???
  8. I don't understand the answer.
  9. I agree!!! That's why I am worried!
  10. And what about the amount of food I am able to eat ? Last night I was able to eat in 40 minutes with no problems: 1/2 cup of split pea soup with 1/5 Block of tofu in small pieces + a small 100 kcal of guacamole. I eat it comfortably with no problems. Waited my 30-40 minutes before and after for the liquids.
  11. Also... I don't know how much food are you able to eat but I comfortably eat 1 cup of soft puree with no problem. Soft food might fill me up faster but I am impressed by pureed food or peanut butter I am able to eat. Obviously I do not abuse of this and I count every single calorie... But I don't know if this is normal!

    Bariatric vitamins

Bari life offers powdered vitamins. The regimen Is pretty easy: One scoop in the morning and One at night. That's all and it has all the things that are required. They suggest to dissolve the scoop in 8-10oz, my nutritionist suggested me to do it in 2-3 oz and it works just fine. Get the lemon or cherry version because the plain one taste terrible.

    Any vegetarians or vegans?

    Vegan and happy here
  14. Vegan here! If you use 1/3 cup of plain soy protein that accounts for 20g of protein. They dissolve nicely in a small.volume of 10oz of soy/almond milk (unsweetened!). Add one or two ice cubes and some unsweetened juice (1oz) and you are good to go!
  15. I am completely confused. I received so many information (some discordant) about vitamins that I don't know what to do. I have been told from the department of surgery to start with the vitamins. I received gastric bypass on 9/5 and in this moment I am not allowed to swallow big pills and I do not tolerate the powdered vitamins (8-10 oz twice a day it's a lot of room in my new small stomach). -What should I take? I mean to be fully covered? -Where do I go to buy them (I need them ASAP, so no online order)? -which is the easiest regimen to follow at my stage (phase II, puree)? Thanks for the help

    Haven't told anyone

Driving two days after a surgery like this is irresponsible. And dangerous. Not only you risk to injure yourself but you risk to injure also other people. We all start a new chapter of our life after this surgery, we need to rebuild strong mental neuronal nets that make us think in a responsible, wise way. Please be safe and make good choices.
  17. I went through my surgery on Tuesday 9/5/17. One week ago. I was discharged from the hospital on 9/7/17. The surgery went well, the nurse assistance at the hospital was terrible. But I am home now. The most interesting things that I went through this week were: - head hunger is real. It's so interesting! The head tells you "eat eat eat". In the first days our new stomach is very powerful, like a second brain, and immediately replies "don't even try, Real Brain! Mind your business" this duality is so interesting and I'll do all I can to never forget this sensation because when it comes to hunger it is very important understand which brain is talking and I am sure over time the Real Brain will be lauder!!! - I can't do anymore protein shakes! They just steal space for my water!!!Thanks God my doctor today cleared me for pureed food so that I can add tons of plain soy protein in my puree - I miss drinking 30-40 oz of water in one single set of gulpings. I miss that so much. Even if I sip all day and I eventually drink over 60 oz, that doesn't satisfy me. - my surgery accesses on my abdomen are not fully healed. Especially the one in which the drainage was. - I lost over 20 pounds since the day before surgery and I couldn't be happier. You guys? How are you all doing?

If I went through all of this today, having a party for me being the only one not eating... Well, I am sure I'll do fine after the surgery. Wish me good luck. Love to everyone

    September Bypass Buddies

I became vegan 3 months ago. I am on pre-op diet since august the 8th. Surgery is next week, the 5th. I am having soy proteins that I mix with almond milk or cashew milk... when I am tired of sweet shakes I juice up (I am lucky enough to have a professional juice extractor) cucumber, spinach and kale and I add a total of 30g of soy protein, a little bit of salt, pepper, squeeze a lemon ... and it is delicious and sugar free. If you do that, pay attention to avoid fruit or sweet veggies (such as tomatoes, carrots..). Check the nutritional values of anything you juice. Sending good vibes!

    September Bypass Buddies

Ketons are acidic. The Blood manteins its homeostasis by compensarory mechanisms. You are practically right, theoretically incorrect. What a person experience is a compensated ketoacidosis. When ketons are around for a prolonged period of tims can overwhelm normal compensatory mechanisms, leading to acidosis. Best of luck to you as well.

    September Bypass Buddies

Stay strong. For some reason I started my liquid diet on August the 8th . My surgery is scheduled for September the 5th. Which means almost 4 weeks of liquid diet. The first days are really awfully stressful. After 4/5 days the body understands that there are no carbohydrates and it has to use something else to produce energy. That "something else" are, in fact, the fats. This has two consequences: the first one is that you lose weight quickly, the second is ketoacidosis. The latter is the process that makes you produce energy (and live) starting from fats. It is not the primary/natural way to produce energies and this process causes the Generation of ketones. These substances make you feel with a lot of energy and they suppress the hunger working in some brain centers. They may also damage some organs after a while, that is why this kind of regimen must be temporary. stay strong , the ketones are on their way to make your life easier. Follow the instructions that your doctor gave it to you and use your willing power. You'll be fine!

    Juicing Pre-Opt?

Depends. Greens vegetables are generally speaking safe (kale, spinach, cucumber). All the veggie juice that you probably like (carrots, tomatoes) are not ok. One tomato has 3.2g of sugar. If you juice only 3 tomatoes [emoji534] that's almost 10g of sugar. 1 medium carrot 🥕 2.9 g of sugar.
