Excess sugar gets me almost every time (especially on an empty stomach)

This! Some ice creams kill me but I can do a kiddie sized cone of soft serve. Culver's custard made me feel like absolute death! It took a while for my body to allow rice (mainly for sushi or Chinese food) but now I just need to be really mind the amount I eat and I *usually* keep it down.

  2. Just curious if anyone has tried this and what their success was like. My bf wants to lose a big chunk of weight and proposed this, and of course he has my support!

I know all programs have VERY different pre-op plans, but mine was 3 weeks (based on BMI) of nothing but 4 (plan approved) Protein Shakes and raw non-starchy veggies with zero topping/seasoning. I adhered to this diet 100% in 2018. I had already lost 40+lbs at that point and lost 16lbs in the 3 weeks before surgery. Obviously my caloric needs are far lower at 168 than at 300+ lbs, so I am planning to do 4 lower calorie Protein shakes (Premier, Quest, GNC Lean) and the same restriction on veggies. I'm planning to do this for 2 weeks.

I got to my lowest weight of 149 last summer and maintained pretty well until the holidays when I saw as high as 175. I've been maintaining from about 169-173 since January, but I really want that "Normal" BMI back (~155). Fortunately almost all my smaller clothes still fit with the exception of a pair of shorts.

Hoping to hear that others have seen results! :)

  3. Body changes really ARE so challenging to process! I'm down 199 lbs and have already had 1 round of plastics (second in October) but it doesn't solve all the problems. It definitely helps, but I know rather than the copious amounts of loose skin to make me feel uncomfortable and remind me of how large I was, I'll have a TON of scars literally all over my body as a reminder. I am very thankful to be where I am, but it's very hard to see what I've done to my body.

I know right?!!! I feel welcome relief and comfort from my daily routine! Love the morning weigh in to keep me honest and on track. Love the planning/logging/tracking so I know what happens in response to a certain day of food. :) And yes, totes cray on how quickly an offplan day can increase your weight!!!

Congrats on your huge and inspiring success!!! 200lbs in 18 months!!! Woot!!

Thank you so much!!! I lost 57lbs pre-op, so about 140 in the past 18 months. :)

  5. I hope it's okay I'm a couple days shy of 18 months, but I also weigh every day and track every day. I'm at a 700 day streak on MFP. To me, it just works. I've formed this habit, it's yielding positive results so I'm sticking to it. When I'm out of town or on vacation I definitely relax but jump right back on the wagon as soon as I'm home. I honestly find myself looking forward to that comfort/control. It's unreal how quickly my body can put weight back on. I went away for the 4th of July for 4 nights and came home about 12lbs heavier. I lost it all back in the span of a week, but it was a pretty great reminder of how valuable my positive habits are.

  6. I have a FDL and it's healing really well. I also had a ton of skin above my navel and a regular TT wouldn't have taken care of it at all. I'm actually having it revised in my next surgery to take more/extend it a little higher as I still have loose skin there even with the first FDL. I can't easily post pics from my work computer, but I can later if that would be helpful.

As far as needing help, I think after a couple days you should really be okay especially without any muscle repair. Just take it very easy.

  7. Yes, the compression is essential to reduce swelling and avoid a seroma - tight is what you want. I had a compression garment and then also an abdominal binder and still developed a seroma near the "T" in my tummy tuck/FDL.

Honestly, my breast lift/aug was more painful than the Tummy Tuck (I pretty much had total reconstruction - my surgeon said mine were in the worst shape he's seen in 22 years and that I have unusually thick/strong pec muscles which made things even harder). Just keep on that pain medication and make sure you are taking a stool softener/laxative. My first BM post-op literally ripped me apart.

It gets easier and easier! At 5.5 weeks PO I'm feeling about 90%, just wake up sore. It'll absolutely be worth it! 😃

  8. Hi friends,

I'll be 1 year out from RNY on 1/31/19 - exciting! I was a naughty girl and didn't incorporate exercise until about 3 weeks ago. Since then I've been really diligent going to the gym 5-6 days a week, doing primarily cardio and core but strength twice a week as well. Since then the scale has been awful. I'm going up and down the same 2lbs over and over and over when I'm absolutely maintaining a caloric deficit (eating ~1100 calories a day). My diet obviously has been the key to losing for me, but now I'm so close to the finish line and trying to do good by myself with the exercise and it's stalled out completely.

Has anyone else had any experience with this? I'm trying not to be discouraged, and I'm so super happy about my progress.. but I am dying to get that normal BMI for the first time in my life!!

    Thanks in advance. :)

    Hiya @Sasha Cyrus

I am a year out. I have no plan from my surgeon any more, but four simple guidelines:

    • Strictly three meals a day, forever. No snacking. Ever.
    • Protein - at least 70g a day. I start every day with a coffee/protein icy slushie, but the rest of the Protein is from chicken, Beans, nuts etc.
    • No potato, rice, Pasta. Or hardly ever, anyway. Calories without substance.
    • And I try and keep the sweet treats to a minimum because I know that I have a sugar addiction, and never want to be on THAT eating path again!

This works really well for me. That and exercise every day. The exercise is good, but I regularly remind myself - this battle is won in the kitchen, not the gym.

What about you? How are you eating?

On average how many calories are you eating per day? This is the same plan that my Surgeon's practice adheres to. I'm approaching goal and approaching 1 year out (where my portions can increase), and very curious about calories. Thanks!
