I've been afraid to try the banana in case it has a fake banana taste (although the fake bananas were my favorite part of runts candy years ago). I had stuck with vanilla and chocolate at first but recently tried the strawberry and prefer it to the chocolate. Hubby will only go chocolate and won't try the others. He's not prepping for surgery and downs it in 3 gulps, so barely matters what flavor. I tried a 4 pack of the caramel - yum! I'd love to find a costco that carries it. Sams also carries Premier Protein, but in a 12 pack rather than 18. They're now carrying Premier Protein Water in a tropical punch flavor. I havent tried that yet, but figure it'll be great for clear liquid phase.

I don't plan to tell many people when I have surgery either, because I just don't want to deal with the negativity. Also, my medical history is none of their business. Right now I'm in a pre-op weight loss for3 months and am striving to follow a high Protein, low carb way of eating. My coworkers, for example, know that I'm hi-pro/lo-carb. I figure once I have surgery, they can continue to think high protein, low carb, because, frankly, that will still be the truth about my eating. Not sure yet what I'll tell them about being out for 2 weeks, but likely most won't ask.

Good luck to you as well. And better later than never. It's great you are getting sleeved now. All that matters is that you are doing in now. Where are you in your pre op process?
Thanks! I'm in the 2nd month of physician supervised weight loss required by insurance. Have completed the psych eval as well. Hoping for surgery in early November.

Thanks....trust me I tried to get my insurance to pay, but my employer opt out of weight loss surgery. I figured I'll get a loan through care credit. I generally invest in other things, so I'll invest in my health. Thanks so much. Good luck to you! Keep in touch
Investing in your health is the best idea! Good luck to you!

I'm in month 2 of a 3 month weight loss plan, and am hoping to have surgery in November. It's totally normal to be nervous. I keep reminding myself that I will feel so much better after. And when I pass a pizza place and sigh, I remind myself that it's just for a year or two and then maybe I can taste one slice. And I might not even care by then! I've been following a high Protein low carb plan (except for today, which has been bad) and recently when I tried a shake from chick-fil-a, I found it just meh. I used to love those!
You're going to do great! I'm not planning to tell many people about my surgery to avoid the negativity. I've already made the high-protein, low carb known. So I'm thrilled to find this community for support!

I'm guessing that all of this costs money, so does one pay beforehand? Nothing has been said about any money yet, but it would be nice to know before I go tomorrow.
I haven't paid anything for any of my visits yet. I think my insurance is covering. But, like NewEnglander says, it's different fore everyone. Depends on your insurance, your provider, etc.

I have Anthem BCBS as well. I had to meet with the surgeon after a wls information seminar to determine which surgery I was interested in and if I was a good candidate. Since then I've seen my primary care, a dietician and psychologist. I don't expect to see my surgeon again until my surgery pre-op appointment after scheduling, but my initial appointment was with him.

30 years in MD (Sykesville/Eldersburg) but I moved to Colorado last year Good luck to all of you! I've enjoyed the nostalgia of listing all those places. I am pre-op here in CO, but wish I had done this years ago in MD when a doctor first suggested it!

I had my eval last week and it was pretty low key. I answered a questionairre (fill in the true/false circle type thing) and then spoke to the doctor for a while. We chatted about history of weight loss tries and why I didn't think they'd worked for me, any substance abuse or eating disorder history, and what type of exercise I enjoy. I think the main focus was on how I deal with stress and whether or not I had a supportive enviornment. The eval wasn't bad at all!

I used to have a trainer, but don't currenty (pre-vsg). My trainer and I worked on strength training, but not nutrition. He did advise me to eat clean, but as he was a trainer, not a nutritionist/dietician, we concentrated just on form and building muscle in the gym. Depends on the trainer you choose and what you want to focus on. I've had friends work with trainers on building cardio endurance. I focused on strength. You set the tone. Just remember, most certified fitness trainers are not certified dieticians. They may espouse a certain eating style, but I would follow my dietician/nutritionists advice over a trainer.

I've only been in CO for a year now, but have been told by a couple natives that since I didn't come from California, it's ok
My surgeon wanted me to lose 15 pounds before a pre-op appointment. Likely just to start new habits. After speaking to the dietician, I'm doing a high Protein, low carb diet. First 6 weeks went great - 10 pounds down! This last week, one pound up. I do know I ate too many carbs. Back to basics to drop some more before the temptations of vacation food!

So nice to see a CO thread! New here. Working through pre-op with UCHealth. I have my psych appointment tomorrow and hope to have surgery in November. Preop diet went great the first month, now am in a stall. Looking forward to good tips on this site! My brother was sleeved in Michigan so I know it works!

premier protein water, tropical punch - anyone tried?
in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Hey all, I saw Premier Protein tropical punch flavored water at Sams Club the other day. Has anyone tried this? Normally I prefer my Water straight up, with no flavor, but thought it might be a good option for the clear liquid phase. Hate to buy a warehouse sized pack to find out it's horrible tho.
