1. Rob and I always wanted a large family. When finances, business, and lack of insurance became an issue we shut down the baby making factory and started using birth control. Lately now that everything has settled down and we are secure again we have decided to continue our Quest for a larger family. We have two wonderful kids now, and plan on having at least a total of 4, possibly 5. our original intent long ago was for 8. I think I am too old for that now.

I think that it is very important for people who have children to focus on what their current situation and see if it is the right time. Planning for a large family is a huge undertaking. One or two doesn't really dent the pocketbook. But 5 or 6 really does. lol

  2. Sorry FunnyDuddies, you don't get to be the one who decides who has "poor taste and judgment." You are entitled to your opinion, but that's all it is. There is nothing I have done on this forum since day one of my participation that was in poor taste, or inappropriate in any way. You have a right to think otherwise, but it's nothing more than your opinion.

You also state that "when asked to clarify" my position I "continued it." So, apparently what you are saying is that I am a lier. That is truly out of line and in bad taste and totally inappropriate. I told you that when you asked me for clarification I thought you were joking. Do you believe I am not telling the truth? Frankly, I still can hardly believe that you actually thought I was advocating the death penalty for Christians. That is what is truly hard to believe. But you insist that your question to me was actually serious, and I take you at your word. But the fact is, when you asked me whether I was truly advocating the death penalty for christians, I thought you were joking, and I responded in kind. I think it is totally inappropriate and in the height of bad taste for you to call me a lier.

Frankly, I think you deserve more that a slap on the wrist for that level of inappropriate behavior. I think there is no room on the board for personal attacks. I think you should be banned from the board. (Sound familiar?)

No one is calling anyone a liar. I asked you a question, you answered it. That is all I said. There is not lie there, because that is what happened. So why would I call you a liar. Quit trying so hard. Your desperation is showing.

And I never said that anyone should be banned. Where did I ever suggest that you should be banned? I did report your post, twice. I think that you should be talked to by the mods. But I do not think you should be banned.

As for the poor taste and judgment...honey, have you seen that EVERYONE has stated that it was in poor taste and judgement? Their issue lies with how upset I am over it. Not whether you crossed the line or not.

  3. When you asked me if I was serious about killing people because of their religion, I thought you were kidding. It is truly inconceivable to me that anyone thought I was serious. I did not believe your were asking a serious question. I thought you were joking, and I responded in kind. That's the simple truth, believe what you want.

And as for your other comments, I simply disagree with you that jokes about the death penalty or anything else are "crossing the line." I don't agree with that. So, if you are offended by jokes that "cross the line," I really do think it would be best if you steer clear of reading my posts.

But the truth is, if only you would admit it, is that the most fun you have had on this forum is debating people like me who strongly disagree with you. You can vilify me till the cows come home, I really don't care.

In response, I will tell you that I think your presence on this board is great. I disagree with almost everything you say to the core of my soul, which is exactly why I like to debate with you.

Yeah, FunnyDuddies!!! I truly am so glad you are here.

    :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :peace:

Actually, the most fun I have had on this board was way back when before the big rift. That was the most fun, and we did not have the rants and raves section, but it was not needed.

I get into debate now because I am a very angry person, and debate is a calm way of getting my anger out. Its actually not something that I truly take joy in. But in my current state, I welcome any debate. Its better than staying angry about other things and having it destroy my days.

this is not about debate, however, and disagreeing views. This is about poor taste and judgement. While you are entitled to have poor taste and judgement, it is still anyone's right to tell you that you have crossed a line. And in this case you crossed the line. Musicalmomma should not have opened the door that she did with her comment either. But you have taken it to an extreme, and when asked to clarify you continued it.

I will not speak for Carlene, because we don't always agree on things ( :tea: ) but if my presence here makes you happier, I guess that is cool. I certaily don't need the cheerleading. Or is that your over abundance of smilies to indicate your jest? :drum:

  4. Mark, I notcied your comment, asked for clarification, and you responded clearly. You are only in favor of the death penalty to kill christians. Joke or not, this is very poor taste and extremely stupid. You may lack tact in some cases to be witty and smart assed, but this was just dumb. Can you imagine the avalanche of posts that would be on my ass if I said "I am not in favor of the death penalty unless it is to kill all the mexcians illegally living here." Joke or no joke, I would be strung up my self in posts and probably given a very firm warning.

Carlene, you are right in this case. Responding to him is the only way to satisfy him. And it would be best to not respond to him. But I cannot stand to hear someone, even jokingly say it is ok to kill christians.

Sunta, you keep refering to fundamentalists, and I want to debate with you, but I want to be very clear on something first. What is your definition of fundamentalist christian? It can be refering to so many things. Lets clarify that first, then we can debate your topic.

  5. I am way on board for rosie. and i really liked her a long time ago. She has just gotten so in your face! Its really tiring to see her anger over something inane for no reason, and then have to hear about all the press coverage she gets because of it.

  6. I have been gone for the day. Nursing a nasty head cold. I hate being sick. frown.gif

I honestly did not notice musicalmomma's post. Sadly, I only saw the response to hers. And I believe that she was out of line as well. Its comments like that that welcome chastising of our faith and religion. It does not negate what you said mark. It only adds to the party.

Carlene, while you might be used to it, does that mean you need to roll over? Esp when so many will be quick to jump on you if your opinion does not match theirs. Its sad really. And yes, Sunta, MOST Christians sit there and take it. Most would rather leave you to your opinion, and just spend less time with you than get into a fight about you bashing them. Or do you bash them so much that they are just forced to fight with you. Maybe you ought to take another look at how you approach Christians. You might find that you get less defense with less venom.

  7. Look, here is the deal... I am aware you are kidding. The problem lies in the fact that even as joking you all feel this is ok. Carlene, your roll over and let lie additude about this proves my point. You know why it is so easy to bash christians? Because we rarely put up a fight. We believe in letting you be and not trying to force your thoughts and feelings a certain way. But ya know it gets really difficult. Everyday I see some crack here or there, on tele or out in the streets, of someone making fun of or poking fun at christians. People build entire careers out of it. But when a person, even in jest, makes remarks about any other creed or race or religion they are villified. If someone came on here and made a bunch of jokes about blacks, but it was all joking...and continued AFTER being told by a moderator to tone it down, they would be banned.

Instead Alexandra slaps mark's wrists, pussies out at the last minute and tells him to go ahead and do it and put a lot of smilies, and mark does just that.

I am a sarcasm lover. I joke all the time, and I love people that joke too. A lot of people hate me because of my humor and the fact that I am a bit too sarcastic at times. But I know that I also have taste, and would NEVER make a joke like the jokes Mark has continued to make. It sickens me that Alexandra's warning was not serious, and that Mark has been given free reign to continue his hatred through jokes as long as he uses a lot of smilie faces.

  8. don't live with a defeatist attitude. if you continue to vote, changes will happen. The only way to change the govt is to have faith in the govt. Be unhappy with the people in it if you must, but you can change that.

  9. yes it has. we must make changes, and force our govt to enforce the rules we have set forth. maybe then we can sort out our own problems while not having to worry about the problems of so many other countries.

  10. The majority of illegal aliens coming into this country from Mexico are Mexican - I think. I haven't queried a border patrolman, but it's pretty obvious. And that don't make me prejudiced.

Early on in this thread I brought out the point about how the terrorists of 9-11 entered this country. That don't make me prejudiced against Moslems either.

Frankly some of the Spanish-only Mexicans who worked on my house and in building this neighborhood were far better workers than some of the English speaking ones. But I don't think you can categorize either English speaking or Spanish speaking workers that way until there have been some serious scientific studies on the subject. That can't happen very easily since many of the Spanish speaking workers may possibly be illegally in this country and not real quick to participate in any scientific studies. Besides they're busy working.

Don't get me wrong - I don't like having millions of illegal aliens living and soaking up government subsidized benefits in this country. But I sure don't blame them for taking advantage of the situation WE created.

The prejudice comment is directed towards those who think we are just speaking of mexicans when we refer to illegal aliens. there are a great number of islanders, cubans, haitians, chinese, koreans, french, spanish, germans, norwegians, indonesians, etc. Until a specific group is mentioned (such as in the border patrolman situation and speaking specifically about mexicans) it is not right to assume that we are just speaking about one group. To do so leaves out all of the other issues we face with so many other nationalities.

But, it must be said that the country with the biggest percentage of illegals here is Mexico. And their concentrated numbers in certain border towns have left those town in financial ruin.

  11. You would have someone killed based on their religion?
He's just yanking your chain, Funny D.

Whether he is or not, it is not an appropriate joke, and there would be an outcry if it were any other group. Why must we stand by and allow people to continually bash christians? Why is it so easy and given? I am tired of people thinking it is ok to step all over me because I am a Christian. I deserve the same rights and respect as any other group, sect, race, creed and color. Just because I am a Christian does not mean anyone should get a free ticket to make such heinous comments.

  12. LOL Carlene, actually Texas is held in the highest regard for me. I think they do things right, by all means. I love that they self support, and that they really don't give any luxuries to the prisoners. Sadly this is not the case across the country. But Texas can sure be a fine example, and one that I hope the rest of the country will soon follow.

I heard at one point that some prisons in Texas were so good at being self sufficient they had money left to give back to the community. Have you heard anything like this? Have you heard if this is true, and if so, what did they give the money back to? Schooling?

  13. It seems to me that the crux of the problem is that our anger and bad attitude toward illegals (from Mexico, mostly) is directed at the illegals themselves. Our country has, by its' actions or lack of action, made our country a very attractive place for illegal aliens from Mexico to come for a better life.

It isn't surprising that Americans are angry. We should be angry. We should be angry that in order for us to get the medical care we need, we must pay through the nose for insurance and then the insurers exert control over our medical care. The insurance companies control our medical care even to the point of denying us medical care and medicines when they choose to, because our government lets them get away with it. However illegal aliens have the right to go to most hospitals and some health centers to receive medical care in spite of the fact that they have no insurance. So of course we are paying for ourselves, and indirectly for them, since they aren't compelled to have insurance to get medical care. That isn't fair and it isn't right.

We pay a very significant portion of our salaries in taxes to provide for the education of American children. However, their children can attend school without their parents paying property taxes. How is that fair? Their children are often eligible for scholarships too, so our kids are competing with them for the available scholarships. In some cases that makes us mad because many of the Mexican students are working so hard for a better life and a better education, they're tough competitors.

The list goes on, but you get the picture. The thing is that we shouldn't be all up in arms and pissed off at Mexican illegal aliens. We need to be furious with the government that has caused and even encouraged this situation.

If we would all ban together and raise hell with Congress and the President and insist that the policies and laws either change or be enforced, we could make it happen. But honestly getting mad at people for coming here, even illegally, when we have encouraged it and made it a climate conducive to their better lifestyles, just doesn't make any sense.

As for the language situation, there again our government and big business has provided a way and means for Mexicans to live in this country without needing to learn the language. Think about it: press 1 for Spanish, Spanish television and radio programming, Spanish billboards and signage, etc. English is difficult, it takes time to learn and as someone earlier pointed out, there is fear of discrimination (and rightfully so!) if they move around outside their comfort zone, so they are discouraged to get fully integrated into our society.

We shouldn't be complaining about the illegal aliens who are fleeing a corrupt government and poverty. We should be doing something about insisting that the people who have encouraged the influx of illegals in this country to stop making it such a comfortable refuge for them.

P.S. Insinuating that most of the illegal aliens who come over are drug dealers just doesn't make any sense, although I am sure we have also made that a lucrative business for some of them.

BJean, this is a very well thought out and put response to all of this. It needs to be fault on both levels, and I agree with you. We need to enforce the laws we have, or change them and enforce them. Either way we need to stop the hemorage of other countries into our country.

And we need to stop making so many concessions for the illegal immigrants into this country. If we make it more comfortable and easier for them to break the law, then they will.

As for the drug dealer comment, again, I am just passing along the news from a border patrolman. I am not stating that all illegal aliens from mexico are drug dealers, just the finding that most of those caught are single men trafficing drugs. It could be that families are just harder to catch. Who knows. But you are right...our open borders have made it a lucrative business. Ever seen cheech and chong? They have a scene in one of their movies (I forget which....i was always too drunk when I was watching it LOL) where INS comes and picks them all up. They are happy cause they get a free trip home and a meal, then they come right back over. I question how much of this is absed on reality. Usually comedy is based on all too familiar incidents.

  14.
I don't think all of the illegals who come here come to live off of us. Many of them come here to work hard and better their living situations. These kind of comments just seem hateful to me. I wonder what the statistics are on this matter. Have any of the persons making this claim done the research? I think these types of comments are what inspires such hatred towards these people. Not all of them come to live off of us. I think their modivation for coming here is for a better life. And most of them are not drug dealers, either. So now every illegal is a drug dealer, too?

Hi, Jasmine you are right. A lot of illegals do bloody hard work/jobs that others would not touch. They do add to keeping the wheel turning by their small place in the scheme of things. Susannah

Actually, I have done tons of research on this. Have you?

No they are not all drug dealers. I am giving you the truths just from a Mexican Border Patrolman. Not all illegal aliens are from Mexico. And to assume that is what people mean when they talk about illegal aliens is quite prejudice. What makes you think people are refering to just mexicans?

The reason they do most of the crap work here in america is because that is usually the work that is paid cash under the table. Its not because they like manual labor or are willing to do crap work. Its because they can't continue to skirt the system usually if they try for higher paying jobs. Don't blind yourself. Do some research. You might be surprised at what you find.

  15. You would have someone killed based on their religion?
    Yes, but only fundamentalist Christians

mark, i don't know whether you are kidding or not. You have left a lot open here on the board over your many posts to make me think you might not be kidding. But I have to say that to even kid around and say that you are in favor if killing christians has to be one of the lowest, most crude jokes I have ever heard. If anyone was to make a joke that they are not for killing unless it was jews, or blacks, or muslims, (or even dogs!!!) people would be down your throat. Yet it is completely ok to say this... Are there only two of us on this board that is OUTRAGED by this response???

  16. i believe in the care of the greater good. focusing on one or two individuals who lose their life because they have been wrongly prosecuted should not mean that those who were rightly prosecuted should continue to live.

I am actually torn on this argument quite a bit...but i will say that not one innocent person should determine the fate of many many guilty people. what does that say for all of the innocents that the guilty people killed? that their lives are not as important?

  17. i don't think anyone is disputing that there are affluent countries. I just don't think it is the place of affluent countries to take care of the world's less fortunate. And as one of the people who is speaking out about this, I have spent time in these countries. I ahve travelled the world. I have done mission work, as well as travelled with the military. I have also travelled for business reasons. I have seen the world's poverty, and I ache for them. I think that people who give to these countries as charity are gracious and good. And I think it helps them to make a better life for themselves in the country they live in and take pride in. It helps them to stand up for themselves and make their own world a better place to live when they can't or won't go to another country to change their lives.

  18. I love these kind of topics! I am a Christian, certainly not a "fundamentalist", but definitely a Christian. When I hear of a murder, I always think about how I would feel if it were my family member that had been murdered. I do agree with the death penalty, and I think if it was enforced a bit more, we would have less murders. (Just my opinion:)) I know two wrongs don't make a right, but I'd like for these creeps out here to die the exact same way that they killed their victims....don't have a heart attack....I know that wouldn't be right, that's just the "angry" side of me speaking. (we all have one, as I'm sure I'll see when I get some replies!)

my husband feels the same way. that prisoners of heinous crimes should get in return what they did. if they kill someone, they need to die the same way. if they rape someone, they also get the same. eye for an eye.

  19. "Case in point, Texas-based Lockhart Technologies closed its Austin plant and fired some 150 workers who constructed circuit boards because it could relocate those jobs to a Wackenhut-run prison where detainees did the work for minimum wage."

and it takes work away from our home town boys and girls too. who have families to support. I think that prisoner work is good, but I am one of those that does not believe it should be paid work. and it should be serious manual labor. digging ditches, picking fruit and planting trees.

  20. actually, there are a great number of inmates that state their life is better in prison than out on the streets where they once lived. MSNBC runs some shows late at night about the prisons in this country. Each episode is dedicated to one prison. I forget the name of the show, but it is rather interesting to see what some prisons give to their prisoners.

One showed that the majority of the prisoners lived in a dorm like setting. They had a big screen in a few rooms, lots of games and stuff, the prisoners were educated and got full health care, and they were fed 3 square meals a day. they were able to earn money doing work, and got paid vacation time after a certain number of hours. Most workers outside of prison don't even get paid vacation! they also had boxing, football, and baseball teams that would compete against other prisons.

What happened to the times of penitentiaries that actually made a man penitent for the crimes he had committed?

  21. Comments like susannah's about the affluence of our nation, as well as some of the arguments to your one point on compassion is what my comment on duty is based on. No, your whole argument has not been on that, but i am addressing those bits of the comments that have to do with our nation's wealth, and the sharing that some people feel needs to happen.

I have a hard enough time paying for the schooling of some drop out punk down the street whose parents are too high to care whether he gets and education or not. To pay for the education and healthcare and housing for someone who broke the law coming into this country makes me sick. If they are not going to pull their own weight then why should I take care of them? I am working for my family and those that are trying to make a difference in their lives. Not someone who is going to skirt the system and cut corners.
