  1. Exactly. y'all. My physical therapist released me yesterday from knee/hip strengthening and recommended I get a brace for my left foot -- foot drop resulting from CMT. Sooooo, I think I'm gonna do it just so I can start walking more than a mile or so at a time. Dayum, my insurance must hate me by now, LOL. First, APAP, next Helios braces - ha! But, its for my health!!
  2. I just want to say, cancer happens to good people; nothing you did contributed to your BC.
  3. @FluffyChix Yes! Check this out (yes, I know these folks are older than us, LOL, but STILL) While 65 may represent an upper age limit for changes to heart function, consistent exercise can offer other health payoffs to older adults. A study just published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine investigated the walking habits of 139,000 Americans who were nearly 71 years old, on average, when first monitored. Thirteen years later, those who reported little to no weekly walking had died at a rate 26 percent higher than those who walked regularly, but for less than two hours a week. Those who walked two to six hours a week had a mortality rate 36 percent lower than the under-two-hour walking group.
  4. I feel like I gotta go for a walk!!
  5. Check out this article and medical publication: "During peak training, they worked out four or five times a week for about 180 minutes in total — 30 minutes more than the minimum standard of 150 minutes per week recommended by many fitness guidelines. 6. So my pre-op orders are 150 minutes of cardio per week, 2-3x per week strength, stretching, and core stability. This may be a good place to start. There are tons of beginner free-weight plans online if you want to skip the gym. And online yoga classes, too.
  7. Walter, I like the fish lips, LOL. Why do kids always do that??? WLS is elective, and I bet most heart surgeries are not (but I could be wrong).
  8. For those having trouble, do you have an auto adjusting APAP machine, or a fixed pressure CPAP machine? And do you have the ramping option? If you dont have these features, could be why you are having trouble. For the record, I am no expert with only one night under my belt so far, but it went pretty well. Went down from API 65.5 to 9.6. So I still have some work to do. Oh, and the heated air hit my cold bedroom and I had condensation problems until I moved the machine to the floor.
  9. OK, this is interesting! So what happens to omentum when you have a tummy tuck?
  10. Well that is good -- the other option I was going to suggest was to reschedule to summer when he's off.
  11. Do you have ore percentages you can share? I know that I'll benefit from concrete picture of what to expect month by month.
  12. Can't your husband take a week off FMLA? I know he's a teacher, but he can set up a plan with a substitute, right? I would do that way before I kept a teenager home from school...
  13. HI there! I'm scheduled for March 14th, praying I get approved. Here's the prep work I've done, beginning a few weeks ago: Dropped wine and coffee Limiting carbs to fruit and vegetables Started taking bariatric vitamins and calcium (I chose a liquid product) Stocked up on clear and whey protein drinks, variety Vigilantly hydrating myself Practicing not drinking water 30/30 around meals, and chewing I haven't been perfect on any front, but I'm working it. Tomorrow get a CPAP machine, so I'll add that to my routine.
  14. Damn, he's an ass. I'm with the others: have your surgery and let the chips fall where they may. I'm 53, and I gotta say, extra weight gets harder the older you get.
  15. I havent told DH about that -- don't want to get his hopes up!
  16. Oh, and the August group was complaining about new members posting questions that have been asked and answered 1000 times already.
  17. Mine were $35 each, group sessions.
  18. Got it online from NutraMetrix. Surgeon only approves three options: this, BA and Celebrate. I just can't do the chews, nope.
  19. @JavaKnut Hey, this is very useful information for us, thanks for sharing!!
  20. PSA: NutraMetrix Isotonix liquid multivitamin and calcium complete isn't bad at all!! Tastes like Tang. The vitamin tastes better than the calcium. Its basically 4 ounces of liquid in AM and PM, or 8 ounces all at once. The smell of the BA chews was very off-putting to me, even now, pre-surgery. Just thought I'd put it out there if there are others like me.
  21. I've proactively reached out to my office manager, too, and offered to help chase down anything that was still outstanding so that the office can submit my package to the insurance company after my 7th dietitian visit next week. So close, can't wait!
  22. Great topic! I had Buffalo Brussell Sprouts yesterday << who ever heard of such a thing? And they were DELICIOUS!!! I know they had Pete's Hot Sauce, Gorgonzalo cheese, hint of lemon, haven't tried to make them at home yet, but I certainly will! Multiple recipes online.
  23. I like the red hair, and admire your commitment to lose weight following chemo! You got this
