  1. Hi! My sleeve operation is due 8/9/17. I'm worried about the pre-op diet - even though I haven't yet been given any formal information on it. I know it's probably best to move to a liquid diet asap prior to op to try to limit the shock to the system! I'm hoping to start this the beginning of August so that I get a good 5 weeks in. Anyone else managed this?

Hi Silkysocks! I thought I was supposed to be on a liquid diet 1 week prior to my surgery (I even posted about it here) - nope! My doctor called and said they only require a low-carb diet and no food after midnight the morning before surgery. I thought liquids were going to be *hell* after surgery but for me since I didn't prepare myself or my body but I didn't crave food at all. In fact, I'm on a full liquid diet right now which means strained, thinned creamy soups but I'm still drinking completely clear liquid! I just don't have a taste for anything. Hope everything goes well and don't be afraid to reach out if you need something.

Before you go to a clear liquid diet, ask your doctor if / how long you should be on one. Five weeks seems excessively long. This is not a decision to make on your own. It could have serious impacts to your health.

My sleeve surgery is scheduled for 8/7 and I'm on day 4 of a two week long clear liquid diet. To prepare, I had an hour long consultation with my surgeon's dietician as well as received a PDF manual on what I was limited to drink as well as what I needed to intake daily (e.g., 50g protein).

My point being, I've had very specific, detailed instruction on the liquid diet in advance. I would strongly suggest that you have a conversation with your doctor asap on what his/her expectations are for your individual case. This is not something you want to "wing" on your own.

Holler back, Socks, and let me know what he/she says! I'm thinking about you. :)

It seems that they all could get on one page with our directions. I had the RNY and I had to do 2 weeks preop with protein drinks and 4 weeks postop. Like was said talk to your surgeon he may not have the same things for you to do. Good Luck and keep us posted.
