  1. My doctor says he doesn't put people on a preop diet. He wants you to start eating healthier if you haven't been doing so in the past and if you are over 50 BMI he wants you to get to 50 or lower. Right now I'm teetering at 51 so I don't have to lose a whole lot to get to 50. I think my body knows I'm trying to lose that 10 lbs and it's not cooperating. I've been trying to change my eating habits gradually for a while now so even if he did put me on one I think I would do fine. Actually I wish he would so atleast I would have something to go on.

Do you knowyour surgery date yet? That's great that you don't have to be on a diet.

  2. All went well. Although I have had many days doubting I'll lose weight. I lost the first 3 weeks, that was 3 weeks ago. I'm stuck at 223 for the past month. And I was very niave thinking I wouldn't be hungry. I think I am more hungry than I was before. I've only had 1 fill of 2cc's so I have little to no restriction. I've realized how slow of a process this actually is. But I'm sticking it out and looking forward to being under 200. That is my goal for the summer.

Stick with it. You can do it. You still sound real postive. I can't have it done until November. I have to go through a 5 month diet first. I saw a lady the other day that had it done the last of the year and she was so happy with how she was losing. Please keep me posted on how you are doing. i'm counting the days for me.

  3. I want to thank everyone for all the great advice/opinions. Tommorrow is my big day. I forgot to mention that I work a 2nd job at the local Dairy Queen. I never touched a drop of food or ice cream. I knew I could do it!!!! yaaa hooooo. I really cracked down the past five days and have lost almost 10 lbs. I'm now 237lbs @ 5'3. Everyone keeps asking if I'm nervous, but I'm actually so excited to NOT BE HUNGRY after starving the past 2 weeks!!!!

How did it go? Would love to hear from you.

  4. Hi All! Can anyone please tell me the names of the best TASTING Protein shakes for after surgery and where you got them. Also the sames with liquid Vitamins....Thanks! All info will be a help!!

    :woot:

The answers you received are great. I have to go through 6 month diet before I will be able to get the band but would like to start trying some of the drinks before hand. A friend told me to try the Cambridge shake. It has 110 calories and 11 gram of Protein. Has anyone tried this.

Wish I could get the band tomorrow.

Another question, how many grams of protein should you have per day?

    Just waiting!!!!

  5. Hi Guy's

I am from Virginia but Now live in New Jersey. I was banded on March 5th 2008...I am doing okay, lost almost 30 pounds.

My question is ,Do you know of a good Dr in the Newport News area? I am trying to get my mother to go....Thank you.

    M

Hi Mariduke, I am going through the Norfolk Surgical Group but have heard good things about the group at Newport News that is called Dr. Terracina-WLSC of Hampton Roads, VA . Hope this helps you

  6. No, i haven't just been on liquids this whole time. My schedule went like this:

    Pre-op

    2 weeks Liquids (low carb)

    Post-op

2 weeks Liquids (w/o carb restriction)

    2 weeks Mushies

    2 weeks Solids

I lost just under 20 lbs before my first fill and almost all of that was lost during the liquids phase. I lost a little more during mushies and then just maintained during the solids phase.

Since my fill 2 days ago i am on 48 hrs liquids, then 48 hrs mushies, then solids food (very carefully). I go back for my second fill (if needed) in 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure i'm feeling some restriction, but it's kinda hard to tell during liquids.

Thanks for the information you just gave me. It sounds like you are doing really well. 20 lbs is great. I can hardly wait to get the band. Keep me posted on how you are doing.

  7. I just wanted to join in and say hi. I was banded by Dr. Eric Pinnar on 3/21 and just got my first fill yesterday from Dr. Phil. I opted for the Allergan AP band (10 cc) and yesterday i got a 4.5 cc fill. Didn't have much restriction before so i'm interested to see what happens when i start eating solids with my first fill. I just love the staff over at Dr. Pinnar's office. They are such wonderful people! I feel like i couldn't be in better hands!

Hi Dewl, Have you been just drinking fluids since having the band? That seems like a long time. Or maybe you were eating some.

I went to a dietitian today to help me through my 6 month diet before getting banded and she sorta disapointed me. She said they will not do the surgery if you are not over 100 pounds. Has anyone heard this before? i'm approximately 80 pounds overweight. Hope that does not stop the process. How's the fill doing?

  8. Thanks, ladies! I had to change my avatar to something more upbeat (smiling crab vs. paper bag over my head -- it was kinda depressing me, but I was feeling that way the day I set up my account!), and now I'm trying to get my ticker working. Let's see if it works with this post. If not, can y'all tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Have you heard from anyone on how to get the ticker going? I'm also trying to set it up for me and confused on what to do.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

  9. I am scheduled for surgery May 13th. I will be 75 August 16th. I love my life. It is better than ever. I gained weight when I was put on some medicine and haven't been able to get it off. I have tried every diet under the sun, would lose a few pounds, gain it back and so it goes. I have a little apprehension but after several surgeries of more danger I am confident this will be the tool I have been looking for. I look forward to dispensing with diabetes medicine, high blood pressure medicine and high cholesterole medicine. And to have less hips and tummy will be the icing on the cake - whoops! scratch that off.

So please keep me in your good thoughts and/or prayers. I am not looking to be 21 (wouldn't want to be even if it were possible) just healthier because I intend to Celebrate my 100th birthday. Oh, btw, I am going para-gliding on my 75th!

Thanks for all the opinions and discussions.

Jan, Life does get better. Keep us posted after you get your "band". Did you have any problems getting the insurance to pay? They keep telling me they need to hear from my secondary insurance before they give me the go-ahead. Hopefully, all will go well for me and you too.

  10. I truly feel younger now than I did at 30. I have the freedom and the body I only wished for then. I am so ready for PS to change my tummy. I went to a PS seminar the other day and boy am I excited. I really think I can get away with $6000 in our area. Not cheap but better than I expected. You young things are just too insecure to know how really fun aging can be. I really can eat cheaper cause of the seniors menu. And with my band I can share that with my DH so talk about saving money. The perks of aging are just wonderful. My father refused to order off the seniors menu because his age bothered him. Well, It doesn't bother me at all.

Bring it on! My kids are all grown or as I like to call it 'Groan' cause they have all the problems that are behind me.

Eat your heart out young things! You only think you have all the fun! I don't have to worry about getting pregnant. I don't have to worry about what my friends think because we are all comfortable in our own skin.

I could care less where you buy your clothes because I can wear whatever I like and my friends don't wonder if I bought 'it' at the right place.

Don't sweat the small stuff! It is so unimportant and one day you too will know that.

Ladies and Gents of the silver generation. Get the band and start living your life anew. It's a wonderful life!:tt2:

I almost forgot to add I am 60 and 1/2. Remember the days when you couldn't forget the 1/2 year. I am there again.

Sandybelle, I'm older too but can hardly wait for the "Band". Good to hear from someone like you for encouragement. I have my first appointment with the doctor next Monday, Apr. 28. It's going to be great next summer sitting on the beach with all my three daughters again. They just say "Go for it, Mom, you can do it!".
