  1. Finally heading home today from the hospital - my surgery was 2 days ago and the pain I felt afterwards was the worst pain I've been through in my life!
Once the nurse took my drainage tube out of my torso, I felt a lot better. Anyone go through the same thing?

So sorry to read that you are in pain. Are you feeling better yet? What was the drainage tube for?

  2. Had surgery on nov 21. I broke down just before getting sedated. I was terrified. All went pretty well. The next thing I knew was my hand on fire from a potassium drip. My blood pressure dipped super low as did my potassium levels. So I was in recovery for 5 hours. My pressure stayed low all through the next day. I’m home now though and doing fine. I’m only feeling super sore when getting up. Not walking much yet. I’m sore mostly in my neck and thighs. Not sure why but assuming it is from the way I’m getting up and sitting down. The gas issue is a struggle but the pain passes quickly. sleeping at home is a struggle. Best sleep so far is on the couch. No nausea but the gave me Patches and oral medication for that. Now it’s time to sip sip and sip some more.

  3. Anybody else feel like there stomach is way smaller then they was told it should be. I can’t fit very much in stomach at all before I notice that I am full. I am full all the time it’s no way I am getting what I need.

This is from the info they gave me...hope it helps.

“Consume between 2-4 oz at each meal/snack. Your stomach will be able to hold 1oz of food at a time so eat slowly. The portion you will be able to tolerate at one time is dependent on the consistency of the food. You you will be able to tolerate more liquids than solid food. Each meal/snack should take approximately 30 min to eat.”

  4. I went to Sams Club today to buy clear Protein Drinks. This was my first experience in a grocery type store since I began my pre op diet. It was the first time my cravings were overwhelming. Then I watched my sister eat one of those huge hotdogs. It smelled wonderful. I just sipped my unsweetened iced tea and thought about how hard this is. Then we started talking about our plans for Christmas and I felt better. Soft foods stage comes six days before so I can look forward to that...if all goes well that is. I hope I get to the point where food just isn’t that big of a deal to me.

I am so excited but a little bummed. I got my date, yay! But, it’s for the day after Thanksgiving emoji20.png. I am a nurse and have every other Thanksgiving off and of course I have this year off. And I will be on the clear liquid diet for the entire week. I am almost considering working it for another co-worker so I don’t have to watch everyone eat but I am a little worried that I may be irritable from the Clear Liquids emoji51.png.

That is a bummer! I'll just be one day home from the hospital on Thanksgiving. Clearly I'm just skipping this year. Since I'm typically the host (and cook) everyone else is going out for dinner. LOL

  6. I’m having a Thanksgiving meal just before the pre-op diet starts with all of the yummies that go with it. I bought the turkey & Fixins today so when the turkey defrosts I can attack it and have time to make Bone Broth from what’s left . Hubby won a gift card for Lonestar steakhouse on Halloween so we are having lunch later today. I won’t have many days off (school) before surgery so we are going earlier.

    Have a great day!

My surgery dat is 11/21 as well!

  7. I just placed an enormously expensive order on BariatricPal for postop Vitamins. They had the best price I was able to find on the internet for the dietitian suggested vitamins. My daily total is $1.22. Seems hefty to me. Does anyone have a better source for these? They suggested "Bariatric Advantage chewable Iron, calcium citrate and Multi-Vitamin. Along with Celebrate ENS Drink Mixes (instead of the multi-vitamin and Calcium chewables).

  8. My surgeon's requirement is to lose 10 pounds during the two week required liquid diet...although his liquid diet includes four cups of lettuce (2 tbl of low cal dressing) and two greek yogurts. I'm determined to do this 100% correctly. But I get the temptation for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm the one in my family who makes the dinner (my stuffing is killer) and we have 20+ people to my house for a huge sit down feast. My surgery is on Nov 21 so I will not be tempted this year for sure and clearly not in any mood to cook or have guests. So I've told my family "I'm out...see ya at Christmas!" I've been to 44 Thanksgiving Dinners...I plan to be at least 44 more...so missing this one will be just fine. :)

  9. I'm not a woodwind player but I am a brass player. A few days after surgery I started slowly with a minute or so of mouthpiece buzzing. The next day I added another minute. Then another. Soon my horn was in my hands & I was building up time. Take it slow. Let yourself heal. Good luck!

In your experience would you say I’d might be up for a dress rehearsal on Nov 16 with a concert on Nov 17 if my surgery is on Nov 1?

  10. At first that was my stance too. I was only going to tell my mother, sisters and husband. I too was worried about unsolicited advice. My closest friends are also larger folks. As a team we've dieted together...become supports...checked in with each other and that really worked...until we stopped. LOL. When I mentioned I was going to look into Bariatric Surgery they weren't the same supportive team anymore. "The easy way out". WTF. How is this easy? I'm 6 months into my 6 month pre-surgery hoops for insurance. I've never worked out this much...EVER. And, the real work begins after the surgery. Easy? Cheating? Hell no! Anyway, so I decided to tell more people. Surprisingly most has been incredibly supportive! I also share how hard I'm working to prepare for the surgery. Easy...ha.
