  1. @MrsG#1 I get why he said no to corn, doesn't digest properly, high carb...etc. But no steak? Maybe because it isn't lean enough? Are you not allowed any red meat? Weird. Today I have 2 strips of bacon and 2 eggs scrambled for breakfast. (Spread out over an hour... took my sweet time because bacon...) Had a protein shake for lunch. 50+g of protein. Handful of almonds and a baby bell for snack Chicken thigh bbq'd and 2 pickles for supper. I'm craving crunch really bad right now as I type this... which sucks. But I'll eat a handful of sunflower seeds or something to kill it. Great source of protein apparently... My calorie intake today is something around 900.
  2. @c1ndy HAHA! Glad someone gets me... So a couple things I think you'll find, because it seems to be the same regardless of the person with WLS. Carbonation is no longer your friend. At least for the first number of months. The gas you will experience with a smaller stomach will be so uncomfortable that you wont have any issue giving it up. I enjoyed diet coke or whatever as well and now, even though there are days where I would love just a sip, I know it would force me on my back for a hour if I did. Not worth it. Water needs to become your new go-to. Some do the flavored stuff, I hear that it can cause stalls, so I would suggest adding some lemon if anything. I get the sugar thing, I was lucky enough not to have diabetes pre-surgery, but one thing I have read and heard is the surgery does fight it for so many to the point that it disappears. I hope for you to be one of those. That would be amazing, no? Like you said, the biggest hurdles are the mental game. Especially when you get into normal foods again, choosing the right foods, finding your boundaries with food, finding your meals that you enjoy that fill you up for longer. Not eating too fast...(I'm still learning this daily), learning to chew and not worry about keeping pace. The surgery will change the way you eat and how you eat around people is interesting. For example I went to a wedding at week 4 post op. Knowing that I could only eat the smallest amount, I still grabbed a full plate at the buffet to hold appearances. Its no ones business but mine and my wife. I spent the majority of the time talking with my friends over zoning in on the food. Pre-surgery I would have had a couple plates and then felt overstuffed. Now, I picked around my food and only ate bits and pieces of what I really really wanted to put in my mouth. It was amazing and interesting because your mindset completely changes. I then spent the rest of the night dancing with my wife and feeling pretty accomplished about my new me. All in all, I think you have it down as far as what I was getting at regarding the physical not matching my mental reactions. It could be completely different for you. I've said all along that this isnt a black and white, one size fits all situation. Luckily, I feel really good so far about everything. I'm 64lbs down from my starting weight which was 8 weeks ago or so. Lost count. Good luck to you and your journey. M
  3. @2newdreams Thanks! Yea, in Canada the insurance game is a 3-4 year process. And I couldn't be bothered to wait for my health. Mexico was great and it only cost me around $6000 USD when the smoked cleared. Which isn't much considering some pay 3 times that in some cases. Good luck to you and your journey as well!
  4. @dreamingsmall For me, I'm a 6'3 man with lots of muscle mass. I'm hitting 1000cal at 7 weeks out usually each day. Talked to my Dr. Nut and Trainer and its all good. With my body type and size I'm still loosing 1.5 lbs per day average. I know I have to be mindful of the types of food I'm taking in. But a handful of almonds is like 300 cal... Which is now a staple snack of mine. My protein shake is also around 350 cal, 50g protein... So its not hard to get up there. It all needs to be taken into consideration. Right now I could eat 4000 cal and still loose weight...(according to my trainer)... Thankfully I could never do that, but I'm not too worried about minimizing calories, more the type of calories I'm eating... which I think is the ultimate goal, no? I am however finding the head cravings hitting hard these days. Almost caved again last night after a long day of work... Funny how the dumb habits fight so hard to stay alive now that they are in survival mode...
  5. @MrsG#1 it could be a number of things. Stalls are normal. Try drinking more water. Flush out your system might help.

    10 Day Liquid Diet

Drink lots of water. Like way too much. Keep your stomach full. Sleep if you can to pass time. I "cheated" on my 10 day pre-op with a can of green beans just so I could have a "chewing" sensation by day 8... My doctor didn't worry too much about it. The end goal will justify it all. Before you know it the 10 days will be done.
  7. Yesterday I came home from a long day at work and a year ago my routine was to pop by a fast food joint for a late dinner. So driving home I had such a craving to hit the wendy's. I didn't. But again the whole listening to your body is decieving because my mind wants to kill me still. Metal game still needs work. Physical game on point right now. Doing my best not to sabotage.
  8. I can eat about 3-4 oz up to 6 depending on the food. Right now I can eat half a hamburger patty with some cheese and a slice of bacon. Another meal is 2 slices of deli meat with a triangle of laughing cow cheese in a rollup situation. If I'm doing canned chicken with buffalo sauce, I can eat 3/4 of the can no problem.
  9. @dreamingsmall there is a reason diets are a multi billion dollar industry. The failure rate is so high because people lack common sense, will power and disciple. And I would say 99% of us in this forum has been there or is there as well given our circumstances. At the end of the day this surgery is a reset on life. Being able to get healthy by using this tool and then to live NORMALLY. Which is my end goal.
  10. @tuplumupluu some days are better than others for water. Largely because I don't carry it with me. I miss being able to intake lots in one sitting
  11. @AZBlackhawk Assumptions on my weight loss team I have around me isnt accurate... My trainer is fully aware of my situation. Also the sugar free jello/pudding holds me over until I can eat full solids which starts in a week and a half. I'm sick of jello. But its something 5cal/50cal to tie me over when I have that craving. Not concerned about that. But thanks for you input. Good luck in your journey.
  12. @southernbellair79 I heard keto is tough for bariatric patients being that protein has to be our main priority and to try our best to limit fat. I think early on we are all in ketosis just in nature with our low calorie and no carb intake. I could be wrong, don't know much on it. My wife is running a keto diet and said that too much protein can even turn into carbs if your macros aren't inline. Long story short. Parm crisps are amazing.
  13. @Berry78 Yea, shakes are my staple still. Easiest way for me to get 50g of protein. Trouts awesome. I caught lots when I lived on the west coast. Now where I'm at we have lots of white fish like walleye, pike and perch.

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

Scale read 399 today. First time in 6 years to see the 3's. Feeling pretty good about that one.
  15. @Apple1 Yea, I'm glad I'm not alone with that. However on these forums it feels that way, which is why I originally posted.
  16. I'm not sure who is reading what, but there is no abuse... and half my posts come tongue in cheek. Lighten up. Jess is friendly and I have zero issue with her even though she made a ton of assumptions earlier in this thread that were completely absurd and out of line.
  17. Honestly @jess9395, time to move on and concern yourself else where.
  18. I own it. Bought the copyrights to make the movie.
  19. So many heroes... saving the world one irrelevant opinion at a time...
  20. Just hit 399... first time in 6 years I've been under 400... My HW was 460 on July 1st when I started my pre-op. 61lbs in 7 weeks and change... not too bad. Feeling great.
  21. @Sara Bronson I was referred by a friend who had it done. Went with Dr. Haucuz at Certified Bariatric Surgeons. http://www.certifiedbariatricsurgeons.com/ Friendly friendly people who took care of me really well.
  22. @Berry78 HA! I'm glad you found that. It was a typo/autocorrect. But you know what I was getting at. After all my belly has been my best friend for 15+ years. We've done everything together... saying goodbye is hard... hahaah
  23. All good @Diana_in_Philly @Sara Bronson Yep. I'm tired of having to constantly clarify the smallest and dumbest things. I know how I word things... I say things in a way that make me laugh. If people can't figure it out, then they need to get off the internet. I'd love to see them get lost on tumblr or reddit... @Dabearo No need to block, if people get that offended off an internet comment from a complete stranger they need tougher skin and a hug.
  24. @sylvien Hey! Yea, so a little background on Canada. We have a great health care system. However provincially WLS isn't covered by the insurance until you get approved by the very few clinics. I live in a province and we only have 1 clinic and a handful of doctors that can approve you for WLS. Its slightly ridiculous that it isn't recognized. If I lived in Ontario I'm sure its a different story. But right now I know people who had their application placed in for the procedure back in the fall of 2014 that are just now getting consolation dates. And then even after that you have to spend up to 6 months in a strict weight loss plan to prove to the doctor you are serious about it. So up here many opt out of the wait and head down to the states of Mexico. I personally couldn't be bothered to wait that long and super thankful I didn't. But there is good and bad with our health care. For example my wife had an asthma attack 2 weeks ago and we walked into the hospital emerg. Saw the doctor. Got her sorted and walked away without having to pay a cent. Or I can walk into any clinic and see a doctor, get a specialist appointment, MRI, major surgery and again, our tax dollars cover it. There is good and bad to it all. Not to get all political but I'm thankful I live in a country that everyone has the same access to basic health care. Thanks for the well wishes, you as well! Good luck in your recovery and new you.
