    DUMPING IS REAL!!

I haven't had my RNY yet but have had ischemic colitis for years. Basically you pass blood and get hot flashes and IMMENSE pain for hours and sometimes pass out while on the toilet (can you say embarrassing?) When the urge to go hits you, you better run and find a bathroom! I'm assuming dumping is similar?
  4. I'm going for RNY soon I hope. I'm assuming dumping is the same as what you get when you have ischemic or ulcerative colitis. Is that what your daughter has@gina171?

My insurance not paying for surgery

I was sceptical about Mexico too. In Canada WLS is covered by our health system (free), but there's a 2-7 year waiting period depending on how severe your case is. There's only 2 places in the entire country (!!!) that are private clinics (self-pay) and charge upwards of $20,000 Canadian (roughly $16,000 USD). I did my research and frankly after all the excellent reviews I've read about Dr. Illan through BariatricPal MX I'm more than confident in his abilities. And they quoted me (as per their website) only $6100 USD. By no means am I advertising for them, just relaying what my plans are
  6. OMG!!! What a *****! I would have told her where to go and how to get there!
  7. That's where most of my weight is too. And my back. If I manage to get through this and get my surgery approved I swear I'm gonna save up money and come down to the US (cheaper clothes) and go craaaazy shopping. They're gonna have to put a leash or buzzer on me to reign me in lmao [emoji23]
  8. Kind of off topic but my eye opener was when I had to go shopping for office clothes for a new job. I had not been shopping in years! I started trying on XLs and 1X because that's what I was 4-5 years ago and was shocked when a 2X fit snugly in plus-sized shop. How do we not see ourselves getting this big? I'm 5'6 and would kill to wear a size 10-12 as per your chart@Berry78

    Saving my life

Although I have decided to do this (the gastric bypass) for the weight loss also, which I have suffered since I was 6yrs. old, my main reason is my health and my family. Yes, I look forward to the day I might be able to wear shorts for the first time in my life. However, I also look forward to the day I'm not constantly stressing about my diabetes. For a year now my sugar levels have through the roof and uncontrollable. Last Christmas and in June again I got the biggest scare of my life when my meter wasn't even reading my sugar levels. I am now on insulin and not even that is working. I chose to go on a liquid protein diet last week and I don't even have a surgeon picked or date yet. Only water, coffee, and protein shakes all day, and some meat and dry salad for dinner. This was at the suggestion of a family member who also suffered through this until his VSG. I thought no way is this gonna work but I'll humour him. It's tough but it seems to be working wonders! I'll keep doing it until I have this bypass because I know if I don't I might be on an insulin pump next year or even worse I might not be here in 5-10 yrs. Sorry for the long post, I just needed to vent I know there are people worse off and I should not be having a pity party.

    Saving my life

I'm currently drinking Nutracelle. My cousin who was sleeved last year had some lying around and gave it to me. I haven't actually ordered any myself but apparently it's a subscription type company. It's not sweet or thick at all if anything it tastes like flavoured water and dissolves really good in a shaker cup. It doesn't need a blender or anything.

why did i bother to tell my friends UGH

Can't really offer advice because I am not telling anyone. Only my mother, my husband, and 1 of my cousins who had the sleeve himself and was in the same situation as I am now. Hang in there and don't let the naysayers influence you [emoji1417]

    Saving my life

Just the thought of a chance at no more meds or needles is making me tear up. And I'm at the office no less [emoji23] I'm self pay so I can pick a date. If I could get this done yesterday I would. I just need to sort through some personal and family things going on right now and be patient until September or October. Hopefully sooner rather than later [emoji1431] Sure I look forward to the nice clothes and the compliments but most of all I look forward to having enough energy to get through my day and not having to stop and take a break every time I'm walking somewhere with my husband. His energy levels are insane!!!

    Dr. Simon Chow in Quebec?

I'm so glad I found you guys! I've also picked Dr. Christou but haven't had a consultation yet because I'm still trying to bring my blood sugar levels down. Darmonyx did you have your surgery yet? Where are you from?

    Surgery canceled ☹

I feel your pain. I find out my A1C this Friday and I know it's way higher than that. Just started insulin 2 weeks ago to try and lower it for this

    Your head never forgets....

Ok I'm crying on my work break. Thank you for sharing. It means a lot
  18. I finally had the courage to talk to my new GP about WLS a week ago. That's the first thing that came outta his mouth. I didn't even respond. I just lifted my shirt and showed him how big my gut really was underneath those clothes. I then told him my BMI, he proceeded to weigh me because he didn't believe me, and finally agreed. He did try to sell me the idea of more dieting and prescribing me some weight loss pills though. Sheesh!

Diabetes & High Blood Glucose Levels

Thank you at least I know I'm not alone in this. My first doctor kept changing my meds and experimenting even though my levels were twice that. I've been begging her for insulin for over a year now. When I finally saw my new doctor last week, he lost it and put me on insulin immediately. I know I should be patient and that I'm only a week into the insulin, I'm also measuring my blood sugar levels constantly, but I'm so frustrated with so many years of battling this stupid disease.
  20. Hi everyone, First post here, please bear with my stupid question. I've been thinking about RNY more and more over the past few months and came across BariatricPal. Soooo happy I found this place because the forums have answered more questions than I've managed to ever find online all this time! The main reason I've decided on RNY is my diabetes. I was diagnosed with type 2 since I was 14 (currently 38 in a month) and I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired all my life. I have never been able to stabilize my sugar levels or bring them down to a normal level. RNY is proven to lower these levels, as I'm sure you all know. BUT they won't do the surgery unless your levels are low. While I get that you have to generally have low sugar levels for any type of surgery, how is this not a catch 22? I finally had the cohones to tell my doctor about me wanting RNY and she was completely against it (old school). I changed family doctors and the new one is onboard with me doing this if I bring my sugar levels down. He started me on insulin since I haven't seen results with all the meds and now my sugar levels are skyrocketing! Any help is appreciated guys!

Maybe Backing Out - Too Scared

Barbara I haven't had the bypass done yet but hoping to really soon. Just have to get my sugar levels in check first. I also am self-pay. Insurers in Canada won't cover WLS because it's funded through each province (state) but there's a 7 year waiting list for those over a BMI of 45-50! $21,000 Canadian = $30,000 American roughly and I keep telling myself lord I can use that to pay off some bills!!! But you know what? The bills and everything will always be there. My health, not necessarily. We have the same height and I'm at 220 lbs and I can see this being the only way of getting my health back and myself back at this point. Hang in there and be strong! You got this girl!

    A1C before surgery...

I just signed up for BariatricPal for this very reason. To find out what happens if you can't get your A1C down. Mine is way too high right now (for years) I'm not even booking a consultation at this point
