Oh whoops I forgot you were going with a different company! They may still give you a gift bag I'm not sure but yeah I would say still check a bag anyway if you want souvenirs or anything. :)

@specialkron thanks so much for the advice. Because I am traveling alone, the plain ride home is one of the most nerve racking things I worry about. I'll plan on bringing a small bag for souvenirs. Did you pack bullion cubes, or did you pick some up down in MX? That would be an easy thing to pack in my purse. About how long after surgery were you back to feeling well? You are about six weeks out now, I've heard thats about the time people start to feel good again (although everyone is different). What have you found most challenging? Congrats on the weight loss! I am so excited to get down to MX this month! I'll continue to follow your progress.

Hey everyone! I should've updated this a bit back! Things have changed and I decided I am going to go back to school. So I actually changed my date and I was sleeved June 16th because if it would've been in October it would have been during school. So it's my 6th week out! Since the pre op diet I've lost 43 pounds but I've only lost 25 since surgery. I'm excited and finally feeling more normal and am able to workout and drink Water without hurting again! I think you guys are going to do awesome! Looking back I wish I would have prepared a little more actually! But with Protein Shakes the Premier Protein isn't actually too bad on my stomach so that's been nice!

@specialkron Congrats on all of the hard work! You are doing great! How was Mexico? Did you feel like you packed everything you needed for the hospital? Let me know if you have any tips and tricks for traveling post op, as I will be traveling alone.

Keep up the hard work, good luck in school this fall!

    Hi there!

I have scheduled my surgery for October 19th with Dr. Illan. Even though it's a quarter of the amount cheaper than what it would be here in Utah, my husband and I still want to save up the whole amount before we get there to not acquire any debt.

I'm so excited but October seems so far away and I seem to be slightly creeping up on the scale. I know I need to take more control of it now and get into habits that I will have for the rest of my life. But it's hard to know where to start and as bad as it is I put it in my head that it's in October, I have time, even though I'm sure it's going to come faster than I expect.

Any advice from you pro-sleevers or pre-oppers like me? Are there any things that are helpful to get into the habit of before the sleeve? Is it good to lose a chunk of weight before the sleeve? I'm on the Facebook support group but am not on Facebook too often and would love some buddies and maybe some advice.

Thanks so much in advance! :)

How has your summer been going so far? I too live in Utah, and will be going to Mexico for the surgery. My surgery date is August 21 with Dr. Lopez Corvala. I started a completely whole foods diet about 2 months ago, and ditching the regular beer I'd have after work with Water, or on occasion wine. I have tried to cut out all carbonation, because I knew it would be difficult for me, so I thought I might as well as get a start on it. Reading lots of forums, and hearing others experience has really helped me, and shown me more areas to research, or additional questions I should ask my doctor. I'm really trying to change the way I view food. For me, I'd tend to over eat, even when i was full because 1) I was stressed out 2) I felt I "needed" something to snack on 3)the food just tasted so good. Identifying these issues has really helped me. I often ask myself "Why am I eating this?" If its because I'm hungry, than great. If it is because Im stressed, or snaky, or it tastes good- I acknowledge the reason and try to deal with it. If its tastes good, great-have a bite and put the fork down, if Im stressed-take a 5 minute walk, if I'm snacky-I try to avoid Snacks, but I try to keep healthier snacks around because this one si tough for me. I'll snack on veggies with hummus, or pumpkin seeds, or occasionally corn nuts. Good luck to, these next few months are your time to focus on getting ready for the surgery. Please let me know how it goes.

  4. Utah girl here! I live in the South end of Salt Lake County. I will be going to Mexico for my surgery and looking for other WLS people from Utah to be in contact with so that we can support each other though this journey. Let me know if anyone out there is available. Thanks! -CP

My husband and I are having surgery in Tijuana on August 7th. We're going to be at the Nova Clinic. Our surgeon is Dr. Maytorena.

They will only keep us for two nights, but I'm thinking we might want to get a hotel for two more nights, just to be safe. Any thoughts or hotel recommendations? Thanks!

August 7th will be here before you know it! How exciting. Keep us posted on how it goes. I will be staying at Hotel Lucerna. The three my hospital recommended to me were Hotel Lucerna, Hotel Pueblo Amigo, and Grand Hotel Tijuana. Let me know if there is anything you didn't pack, that you wish you had. Good Luck!

  6. I have chosen to only tell a few very close members of my family. This is such a personal decision, and maybe I will share post surgery, but I know that I have been on lots of different diets. My BMI is in the low 30s, and so everyone chimes in that since I have less than 100 lbs to loose it should be easy and feasible. Loosing, although SUPER slow has been possible for me in the past. Lost 100s of lbs over the years (Loose 15 gain 20, loose 20, gain 30, loose 25, gain 30 and the cycle continues) but keeping it off has always been the problem. I don't mind exercise, and love veggies. I did not like how weight loss drugs made me feel. As soon as I strayed or cheated I'd gain the weight back. This has been a life long struggle. Many people think that WLS is the "easy way out" or "cheating" somehow. It is not. I'm pretty sure most of the members of this forum tried everything else prior to committing to WLS.

I will be getting my surgery done in MX, and so will look to join a local support group, as well as maintain active in online forums like this one. We can support each other!
