    Long Drive After Surgery???

I agree, you should be okay. My ride home was only half an hour, and I dozed off countless times on the way but I wasn't in pain. Good luck!

    Post Surgery check in here

Here is my experience for everyone.......I had surgery yesterday around noon. I woke up in recovery, and they took me to do an X-ray to make sure they didn't completely block my stomach so I had to drink that yucky stuff first thing (no water or pain meds until the X-ray was checked). Then I was wheeled into a cubicle and my husband was called. My surgeon came by and said my X-ray was clear, so I finally got to have some water and pain meds. My stomach, upper back, neck, and chest hurt, which they said was gas. They told me not to bother with GasX, that the gas has to be absorbed by your body. After that, I got to go home and some of the pain went away, and I thought I could get by without taking anymore until I laid down to go to bed at midnight.....it hurt! I took the Lortab and immediately felt better. I was awake at three thirty, my four year old threw up in her bed so I changed her sheets, cleaned her up, and got her some meds and water. I felt good enough to do it too! My husband and parents were here to help, but I didn't even wake them up. Then this morning I got up and made breakfast for my parents and family and did the dishes afterward. Most of the gas pain is gone, my neck still has a little pain once in a while, and my stomach is still sore but other than that I'm good. I'm even planning on taking my daughter to a birthday party tomorrow and then she, my husband, and I are going to poker night at a friend's house. I'm just so glad it's over, I don't even care about eating anymore! Oh yeah, and they never even weighed me either......I had to do the two week liquid protein diet and I don't even know how much my hard work paid off. Oh well, I have a post op appointment in two weeks so I guess I can be even more suprised! Good luck to all of you who go next!

is it hunger, gas, or fullness?

I feel that way too, I just had surgery yesterday and I've not been hungry at all (that I can tell of anyway!). I've just had hot tea, water, and protein shakes (and vitamins of course).
  5. I just got banded yesterday, and my stomach is the only thing that still hurts also. But not enough from keeping me from doing anything....it just feels like I did a thousand sit-ups yesterday!
  6. My surgeon told me two weeks.

    Post Surgery check in here

I had surgery today around noon, I've been home for about and hour and half, and I'm just a little sore. Everything's going great, but I need a nap so I'll post more later!
  8. Hi, I'm Gina and I live in Texas, and I'm in the process of having the lap band procedure done through my insurance, Tricare Prime. My surgeon will be Dr. Richard Symmonds (I found this ironic!) at Scott and White in Temple (if Tricare approves the actual surgery). I'm hoping to gain information and support from this forum, it seems like a good thing to be involved in as I go through this process. Hope to talk with some of you soon!
  9. Yay! That's great news!
  10. Yay! I'm so glad it went well, and I think it sounds like you're doing great!
  11. My date is June 12th at Scott and White! Maybe we could be "band buddies"!

    I guess this is restriction?

All I can say is "Wow"! You've lost that much in two weeks! My surgery is in two weeks and I only hope I can do that well!

    Tricare approved me!

    Yay!!!!!!!
  16. Scott and White reccomended a place to have it done, but I could've had it done anywhere I wanted. I just had to call the place and they took care of all of the insurance stuff. I didn't have to go through my primary doctor, I just did it myself. I think you're allowed to self-refer for any mental health needs. The place I went to was called the Chupik Conseling Center, and I saw Dr. Heikens. He really knows what he's doing with the lap band psych evals because he's done it often. And he has an office in Killeen, it's in the shopping center across from the mall. If you need his number, I have it still so just let me know. Good luck!

  17. The only thing I'm really scared about is being put under for the surgery. The surgery itself doesn't scare me, and I'm not worried that the band won't work because I have the power to make it work, so mostly I'm just really excited! I can't wait to get this extra weight off and to be able to wear normal sizes again, and I want to be a runner and run two or three mile everyday....I have so many plans and I absolutely can't wait to get started! Plus, my husband told me that when I lose a hundred pounds he'll take me and our daughter on a trip to Disneyland.......and I'll be able to wear them ragged instead of the other way around! My pre-op tests are scheduled for May 30, I have to do a two week liquid diet and that's it. Yay!!!!

    alcohol post-op?

I'm not sure, but I know that I was advised to avoid alcohol because most alcoholic drinks are high in calories.

    Protien Diet Anyone??

I'll be starting my two week liquid diet on May 29 also. The dietician I saw at the bariatric center gave me some recipes for some shakes that don't sound half bad....some of them even have strawberries or banana in them, and I'm also allowed to have a salad or steamed veggies if I get too hungry so I think I can manage that. My aunt did the same identical diet and lost 15lbs. in the two weeks before surgery, so I'm hoping that I can also. I know I can do it, but it won't be easy so I'll definitely be leaning on you guys for some support!!! Good luck!!!

    I'm on June 12th also!!!
  22. Hello! I'm Gina, I'm 30 years old, and I live in Texas with my husband, our four-year-old daughter, and two female brindle boxers. My husband is in the Army and I'm a stay at home mom. I never had a weight problem until I had my daughter, and now I'm almost diebetic in addition to being 100 lbs heavier than I was five years ago. I'm getting banded on June 12th and I cannot wait! I plan on giving it my all and really dropping fast, especially since my daughter will be starting school in August and I'll have all day to do my exercising! Anyway, I'm just so excited and I'm so glad to have this forum and to know that others will be going through this at the same time as I am. Nice to meet you, and best wishes to us all!!!
  23. I just found out today that I'll have my surgery June 12th!!! I'm so excited!!!

    I cheated!!!!!

I just looked through all of my paperwork, my surgeon wants ten pounds lost before surgery and requires the two week liquid diet. I just got approved yesterday, so I don't have a surgery date yet but I plan on getting a head start on the diet so I'll be more used to it when I do have to do it. I know I can lose ten pound in two weeks, I've done that so many times already that I feel like it'll be a breeze.

    Another tricare approved

No, I'm just Tricare Prime South.....I'm at Ft. Hood. I had three choices of where to go for the surgery since they don't do it on post....I could go to the post in San Antonio, to Southwest in Austin, or to Scott and White in Temple. I choose Scott and White since it's only 30 miles from me. I think the surgeon is not in-network. The financial counselor there told me all I would have to pay them is the $25 fee for the hospital stay....which is the same amount I had to pay to have my daughter almost five years ago! Except I don't have to stay overnight this time! If Tricare approves you and you have Prime, it should be covered the same as mine. Oh, and she also told me fills are covered 100% too.
