    Swallowing without air?

I appreciate the advice and insight, my program doesn't want me to use straws because you get too much air. I suppose if you drink carefully that may not be a big issue... something to consider.
  2. Random question. I know that after surgery, pain is to be expected. One source of pain could be from gas in our smaller stomachs. I'm in my pre op liquid diet phase and finding that there is a lot of air when I swallow. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you!

    DIET SODA

I had the same question/issue. I am scheduled for a roux en y. Was told that anything carbonated would take up a lot of room, even something like drinking water but with a straw could allow too much air in - taking up too much and then it would cause issues. I was told that caffeine is ok after six months, there is some evidence that it delays wound healing. Caffeine should leave your system in about a day. Maybe worth while to talk to the office. Trust but verify, eh?

Surgery Scheduled for July, Anyone else?

I'm having surgery on July 25th!! It's good to see all the positivity even through some of the frustrations and delays with the surgery.

    Anthem

I think Jess is on point. I would imagine all doctors offices have someone on hand to do the prior authorizations. Mine has a dedicated person. That person is used to hearing plenty of "no's" from the insurance companies and knows what pieces of documentation or hoops you need to jump through. Example of documentation for me was six months of medically supervised weight loss (though with a doctor or PA, not a nurse), and example of a hoop was having a barium swallow because of my high BMI. These were done and surgery approved.

    What can I take??

Vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, infection? You sound scared. Better to be safe, worth touching base with the doctor's office.
  8. Thank you both for the wonderful replies. Sherrie, I appreciate your honesty and reassurance. You're at half of your HW, that's wonderful, but it also looks like you've been doing good. Thankfully I have support, parents flying in, lady friend flying in, a friend who is off of work, and another who may take off work as well. Bonus points to you for having to tough out at least for first steps by self. Marieac2, thank you for your reply as well. Your progress as well is to be lauded, congratulations! I know myself, and I understand that my relationship with food (and drink) is for every social occasion - celebration and eat some cake, sorrow and raise a toast to a lost love one, boredom, etc etc. I feel with the medically supervised weight loss, I've been able to put a dent into that mentality. I feel that my medical knowledge is somewhat ironically my double edged sword: I feel like I can understand what I need to do quickly, but we are trained to nitpick details (example, when my surgeon says something, what are the pros and cons of a recommendations. I can't turn it off, so I choose to ignore it. And FYI, Medicine uses different levels of evidence, as detailed through this link: https://www.uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org/Page/Name/grade-definitions#grade-definitions-after-july-2012 )
