    Pre op weight

I was recently given an weight loss goal of -14 lbs. I've lost weight before but the fact that everything is starting now has given me so much anxiety. I just want a snack ( or two)!!! But I told myself I'm going to start Aqua Zumba and water aerobics at the gym and I have to begin following the Pre Op program again...Wish me luck

    NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!

I was told in my WLS orientation that caffeine, carbonated beverages (soda and seltzer water) & nicotine will aggravate the pouch over time. I don't know if I fully believe it because I've watched quite a few Youtube videos and people say they are drinking sodas and all kinds of stuff. I'm like "What, she drinking soda. WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I haven't had a problem giving up soda but seltzer water made me sad... I think you'll do yourself the best good by sticking to the Doc's recommendations and have a nice sugar free beverage.

  6. I mean one must be considered OBESE aka fat (i'm talking love love relationship with cookies, candies, pizza and tacos not just oh I have a little pudge) by a medical professional, go through appointment after appointment, literally have their stomach surgically removed- by at least 80%- then have the nerve to say oh well THOSE fat people are just lazy! That's crazy to me - my OPINION - if it was just about being lazy vs being "unlazy" (new word I just made up) then why not just stop being lazy????????? Its easy right?????? I've had a hard time with weight for a while and when I recently decided to take steps toward having the surgery I told myself "Enough is enough." I've lost weight before and gained again then lost again, was able to keep it stable for while and then regained again. Ultimately I realized that I need help...from a medical professional. I put my current weight-275 lbs but I certainly emphasize with the people on that show and people like them (except that one heffa frying chicken in her bed. she coulda burned down the house )- on this site because I thought this site would be a place where people would have a little more understanding of the whole "weight" issue and just how real and difficult it is and are here to support each other through it or be a motivation to those just starting out but some of these people are ... seriously!!!!!

    6 months in the hospital

Hi Geri Marie, Was it hard recuperating from the spinal fusion? How was the process? I'm starting to feel "pops" in my lower back and I'm hoping as I lose weight it will let up.
  9. You are right...your OPINION... If you can admit YOU were lazy thats great but you can only speak for you
  10. It did not strike a chord with me...I think its unfortunate that overweight people attack each other when we all obviously have similar issues. Is there really that much of a difference between someone who is 400 lb vs 425 lb or 290 lb vs 322 lbs? We got issues with food...
  11. I can't recall one episode where I thought "Damn they're just lazy..." From what I can remember just about all of them have some kind of deep issues going on and have turned to food instead of dealing with their problems and/or emotions... just like the rest of us. Whether or not a person decides they are tired of hurting themselves and want to finally face their fears and deal with the issues they have varies. Some chose to break free of the pain while others dig their heels in, but obviously its not well s/he's just lazy- I mean thats a severely oversimiplified and insensitive statement. That is the attitude people who have never had a weight problem have (sometimes). Just back away from the table... Just put the fork down...If it were that easy none of us would need this surgery that cuts out/removes atleast 80% of the stomach as if the stomach is the problem. (The stomach is just sitting in the body minding its own business doing its job...The problem is the owner of the stomach is constantly stuffing it with food because of what they are dealing with) I hope the show provides counselling/therapy (especially off camera)
  12. I don't think its a freak show per se. It shines a light on someones experience and unfortunately its oftentimes painful and unpleasant. You dont get to 250, 300, 400 or 500 lbs because you like tuna and cupcakes. Something horrible happened or is going on

So sad to hear about your brother in law. What procedure did he have? What went wrong? That is really a shame.
  14. Hi, How did you get that sliding scale on your post. I'd love to add that to mine.

    Kaiser Richmond

Hi Dimples58, I'm in the early stages of getting weight loss surgery at Kaiser Richmond, CA. I went to the orientation in June 2017 and I met Dr. Im in July. He gave me a goal of 14 lbs to lose and I meet with the psychologist in about three weeks. I hadn't really decided whether or not I was going to have the procedure done but after researching the pros and cons of having the sleeve I've decided to proceed. I'm having so many emotions- excited, fearful, worried and sometimes I second guess whether or not I should have it at all. But in my heart I really feel it needs to be done so that I dont have the option to overeat or eat my feelings and I'm forced to deal with them and get healthy overall. Can you tell me more about your experience with Kaiser Richmond, I'd really appreciate your insight. Thanks!!!!

    May??

I'm so nervous. I went to the orientation at Kaiser/Richmond in June and I have appointment with the surgeon in a few weeks. I was upset at first that it wasn't sooner but now I'm glad because this will give me a chance to get started losing towards my 10%. I've been searching online and I haven't found anything scary in regards to this procedure. Most of the people online seem to be having success with the sleeve. Still very nervous though. Anybody here have the procedure already????
