    Questions galore

The bubbles might be painful. I hear someone say they drank some soda and was in pain for an hour. Maybe let it de-gas ( go flat) before you drink it/ Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135

    9 days postop...

Very common! Lack of energy is the major complaint after surgery while healing. It took me 3 weeks at least to be able to even walk around the block without wanting to sit down and rest. Keep your water and protein up as best you can- this is always a struggle for me. It also takes months for the anesthesia to get totally out of your system. My surgeon said the healing process goes on for at least 6 months. So rest and take care of yourself. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135
  6. I get shoulder pain when I eat. The doc says it's referred pain from my stomach/gas. It may be the same thing. I agree, chew well. hope it gets better.

Diet at 6 wks post op

3-4 ounces depending on the density of the food. I ate a packet of the Starkist Tuna Creations and it was yummy. I think I ate about 2 ounces of steak and an ounce of a sweet potato. I'm at 8 weeks now and it's probably close to the same. I had the tuna tonight and didn't eat the whole 2.8 pouch - i had a few rice crackers with it. My average calorie intake per day for the last month has been 700 calories.
  9. I get Protein2o at Safeway and Kum and go. I love the wild cherry. I saw it on Amazon too. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135

Steak! I had a filet at 4 weeks and it was delicious! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135
  12. My plastic surgeon said I'll hit a 2. - 3 month stall and that's when I should come back regardless if it is at goal or not, donuts probably very common. I think the surgery is a tool and we have to put in some hard work whether it's food choices or exercise or both to be most successful. So, if you want to get to 100% of your extra weight you can do it! You just have to be very deliberate. I saw my pcp a few weeks ago. My goal set with my surgeon is 135. I'm large busted. I haven't seen 135 since 17. At 29 I was 155 and a size 10 and felt great. My pcp said 150-155 is a more realistic goal for me. So, I'm shooting for 135, but think I'll be elated if I hit 150. I checked an age and gender bmi site yesterday and i think 150 was a good bmi for a 55 year old female my height. It said at 135 that might be too low, even though the traditional chart says 135 is perfect. It's all relative. I don't think a chart can capture us. I think we need to see how we feel at a certain weight. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135
  13. I'm 8 weeks out. I need to vent and verbalize my struggles. I've been on a stall for 2 weeks now. I know it will pass. My problem is that I'm dealing with so many emotions right now. My husband just left for 6 weeks in Japan. So I'm a "single" mom for the time being. I've just had to start working in the office 4 days a week after 20 years of working mainly from home. School is just starting so I'm feeling like I'm running constantly. I miss eating. I miss being able to have a sandwich or just to munch. I've been keeping my calories between 500 and 900. I tolerate most foods well. Haven't been getting my fluids in. I've only been able to get to the gym once a week. I haven't been a binge eater but was a sugarholic. Food doesn't satisfy me anymore. I do manage to have the self control not to eat cakes, pastries and carbs at this point, but I'm not sure how I have. I think the combination of not losing and not feeling satisfied has me feeling a bit down. I'm worried that going to fail this weight loss journey. What if I do stop losing? What if I cut out most of my stomach just to stay overweight? Does anyone else feel like this? How can I get past it?
  14. Stall is broken- 1 pound down this week! Went on a power walk per your suggestion because I was ready a half hour before a coffee date today. Did feel good! Joined a Fitbit challenge with some friends and am determined to get in 80 g of protein today! Thank you! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135

One week post op-is this normal?

I think I'd follow up with your doctor. They can make sure everything's on track and give suggestions on how to make it stop. Si sorry it's so rough! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135

    Diabetic? Surgery today..

Normal. I was diabetic prior to surgery. I had a 5.7 after a 25 pound weight loss and my doc said one more A1C like that and she will remove the diagnosis completely. I just googled the chart and 5.1 weans your avg blood sugar was 101. When I was hypoglycemic I had an A1C of 4 and they said my avg blood sugar 3 months was 70. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135

    Questions galore

I got approval for the gym at 2 weeks with a weight limit of 10 pounds until 6 weeks. Check with your doctor though. I got approval for alcohol when I asked at my 8 week visit. I have had wine twice- definitely more sensitive to it. See how the sugar in juice makes you feel. I haven't had juice yet, but have eaten fruit- the plums taste so foo to me! No problems with them at all but so far I tolerate most things well. Check out the eggface recipes on Pinterest. She has one for ricotta bake that is really yummy. You can also just put gastric sleeve recipes on Pinterest and there are some great recipes/ Good luck!! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135

    Can sugar substitutes be avoided?

Yes! The sugar alcohol in the artificial sweeteners makes me so sick! I get a hot flash and cold sweat and super nauseous! Stevia doesn't do that to me just the ones with sugar alcohol. I think stevia is natural so that's probably why it doesn't make me sick. Good luck! It is awful! I can add a little sugar to coffee with no effect. I think that's better than artificial especially since I only only 2 packets and don't usually drink the whole cup Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135
  20. So true ! Thanks! He left on our 24th anniversary so we didn't get to celebrate- we will when he gets back. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 191 GW 135
  21. Thanks so much! Great advice. I think I'm being hormonal too- in that wonderful time when my cycle is coming every 3-5 months . Ugh! Plus the hormones from surgery/ weight loss. I'm usually right around 50 for protein so I know I need to step that up right away. Also just got new vitamins because I kept missing the children's chewables because of the taste- I moved to an adult mini yesterday. Taking one in the morning and one at night. On a bright note I went to kohls today with my daughter and was able to buy 3 blouses off the clearance rack in a large rather than a 2 xl for the first time! I haven't bought any new clothes since surgery because I've been shopping in my closet. Had multiple coupons and only paid $2 out of pocket- 2 were Jennifer Lopez! So that helped my mood a bit. I didn't try them on until I got home- I figured they could be goal shirts if they didn't fit! They fit well, so that was encouraging. I'm going to take my measurements tomorrow. Thanks again! Trying to get back on track

Getting a separate fridge is a great idea. I hear you about having food around. I went to natural grocers today to get some healthy snacks because I just want to graze! I'm realizing how much of my eating is boredom and stress. I'm only 8 weeks out and I know I can't let myself go down the slippery slope. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 192 GW 135
  23. I'm 8 weeks out- I have about a half cup a few times a week. The key is you have to drink a couple of glasses of water for every caffeinated drink you have because caffeine is a diuretic. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 192 GW 135
  24. I echo all of yours! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 192 GW 135
