    Finding out the hard way!

I was starving the other day- I got stuck in denver buying a car and had to rush to pick up my daughter from work at mcdonalds. She brought a hamburger into the car and I asked if I could have a tiny bite. Big mistake! Within minutes I had to rush to the bathroom- Tmi- I'm not constipated anymore. That went on evening. Note to self- no mcdonalds!

    Finding out the hard way!

My husband had rny 11 years ago. Spaghetti still bothers him sometimes- at first he couldn't eat it at all for the same reason. I was sleeved 3 weeks ago too and I'm thinking pasta maybe one of those things that are off limits like soda: I too cheated yesterday and ate a small slice of pizza. I chewed the heck out of it and I didn't get sick. I emotionally feel bad- I had been totally low carb and now I feel like I blew it. I'm back in the wagon today! I kept my calories under 600 for the day which is the highest say so far. I just saw the slippery slip that it took me to. Feeling angry with myself. I wasn't even that hungry, it just looked so good!

    Care First BCBS of VA

I have the same insurance and because I live in Colorado they did not require the classes. I had my first consult in March and had to do a psych evaluation $100 which I think I can get reimbursed, a Nutrition eval- $50 and a 1 day class which was feee. They approved the same day the dr submitted! I had a zero copay for surgery which my hospital rep said she has. Ever seen. I love that insurance!!! Good luck !

    Orientation to surgery

March 6 First orientation- surgery on June 22 I could have had it earlier but I was out of town from June 5-18 How did it go?

How much time in the hospital?

I'm in Colorado. I had 3 days in the hospital and that was perfect. I had surgery Thursday morning and came home Sunday late afternoon. I have had a perfect recovery so far! Good luck!
  6. I hope you are feeling better now. Leaks are extremely rare. I know what you mean about blood clots though. I have had a few leg cramps and got really nervous.
  7. Have you tried milk of magnesia or miralax for the constipation? That what my doc recommended. My incisions still hurt occasionally. Pain pills help if it's really bad. Watch for infection though. I hope you are feeling better soon!

    What about soups and stews?

My bariatric nurse practitioner said to separate the liquid from the food and eat them separately. I'm going to check in with her about that again. When I was drinking premier protein shakes in the hospital hey had me separate them from water with the 30 min in each side which I don't quite understand because it is liquid. Maybe it's just for discipline reasons.
  9. My husband had RNY - gastric bypass 11 years ago. Issues there are problems absorbing vitamins and not being able to use Advil or nsaids. Also if you have any issues with liver/ bike ducts etc there's no access via egd. He had a lot of complications as well. I had my vsg 6/22- so far so good. Good luck with your decision. Trust your surgeon.

    Yay Me!!!!

Awesome! Are you post op or pre op?
  15. That is true. I have a lot of trouble with the bile ducts in my livers my surgeon said no one I. Their right mind would do a rny on me but the sleeve would be fine- with rny they wouldn't be able to get to the bile ducts to clean them out. Hopefully the weight loss will alleviate my duct problem - I have no gall bladder but still make stones that get stuck in the bile ducts of my liver...excruciating!

    Hair loss without Weight loss

Not enough protein will also cause horrible hair loss. Keep your protein up!!
  17. I was sleeved on 6/22/17. I did not have a purée stage. I was on protein shakes the day after surgery and by day 6 I was on yogurt and apple sauce. By my 2 week post op I was eating ground beef and tuna fish. I haven't had much trouble eating except when I take just one bite too much. I measure everything- sometimes an ounce is enough- like with the ground meat. Still chew everything and wait between bites. Not drinking is the hardest thing for me. I was told to try to take 30 minutes to eat those 2 ounce meals. I don't always take that long. I'd call your dr's office and talk with them. Have you had a post op visit yet?

    Who Are You?

I'm Michelle. 55 year old mom of 4. Wife of my DH who had RNY 11 years ago - he has lost about 90 lbs and kept it off. I am of stocky French- Canadian descent & my dad was abusive. I can still feel the knot in my throat as he made dinner time a nightmare until we cleaned our plates. I've struggled with weight my whole life, but as I look back I wasn't that heavy until adulthood. I am a low ish bmi vsg patient. My top weight was 225. I went into surgery on June 22 at 217. I have lost 23 pounds since my first surgical consult- current weight 200.6. I have only told a few people that I had this surgery. Only one of my kids knows and aside from my husband, no family members. I am tired of being so young and my body feeling so old! I want to live the rest of my life in a body that I love.

    BARIATRIC VITAMINS

I went to natural grocers today and bought a chewable children's vitamin. They had so many choices. I've been using b12 sublingual liquid for years- $6 at Walmart. I also got a liquid calcium with d at natural grocers.

When did you start working out after VSG

My doctor gave me the go ahead to work out without restriction at 3 weeks post op because I am doing so well with recovery. That's this Thursday. I would definitely check with your Doctor though because every surgery/patient is different.

    popcorn when?

My nutritionist said no seeds nuts or popcorn until 8 weeks out I think.
  24. Missy161

    Staples?

Take a pain pill before you go in and you'll be fine- just pinches
  25. Sunneadow, what do your surgeon and nutritionist say is the issue? I think you are right, if you are eating so few calories and exercising why in the world wouldn't you lose weight? There has to be something else going on. Are you tracking every morsel and sip? I think I'd be sitting on my doctors doorstep if this were happening to me!
