    What are you saying?

My mom was the one that actually brought the subject of wls up to me. She has a failed lap-band.. The port is literally flipped so she cant get fills anymore and her surgeon brought up her getting a revision to sleeve. She said I should get on board and we could do it together as a team support. Unfortunately her insurance messed her up so I'm going through it first. She is going to switch to my Dad's insurance and try again after that. My Dad knows, my husband and tween children know. I told my sister and my grandmother as well but no one else in the family knows that I am going through this. I have mentioned the nutrition visits because when I learn interesting things I like to share the knowledge. I have already been on a weight loss journey for two years ( and gone up and down on the scale ). I am a stay at home mom so really people that don't know will think I just did it on my own when they happen to see me again. I mean once I am a success story and have maintained for a year or more then maybe I will be more open about it . I just wouldn't want people that aren't supportive to scrutinize every bite and everything I do while I going through the process. This process is hard enough without negative people.
  2. Hi all, I started this journey back in January with a seminar and had my first visit with the surgeon in Feb. My surgeon's program requires a long process before surgery. I have to do 6 months with dietitian ( only first and last are one on one .. the rest in between are in a group setting , a psychiatric evaluation , blood work and tests and finally visit 3 support groups before you get final surgeon visit. I am half way finished with my program and need to go to the first support group . I have bad social anxiety and always stress myself out before having to do anything new. Google doesn't help me with preparing for support group. Do they weigh you in first like the dietitian group meetings? Do you have to talk or can you just listen and take notes? It seems not many have to do support groups before surgery. I could always call the office but my social anxiety also extends to phone calls. Thanks for your help
  3. Thank you for your responses! I went tonight and you guys were right .. no scale! We listened to peoples stories and talked about all sorts of things ranging from vitamin regiments to pulling out the drain tubes after surgery. Very interesting stuff. I have 2 more mandatory support group meetings to check off my long lists of prerequisites. If I didnt have to drive so far ( and them only being in the evening time ) I would think about going to more . Thanks again!!

    Preop weight loss

My surgeon wants us to lose 5% of our weight in the 6 months before surgery. I've lost half of what I need to lose so far. The dietitian just said eat veggies first , protein second , carbs last for the pre-op slimdown. I'm honestly having a hard time free wheeling it without ww or some kind of strict plan. I might just go back to my tried and true ww to ensure that I will lose the recommended weight in the time frame. I've lost triple the weight in the same time frame on ww. Of course I gained it back and then some because I got off the wagon and here I am waiting for surgery so obviously ww isn't perfect.

    Excited

My surgeons program is at least a 6 month process. He requires us to do 6 months with dietitian, 3 support group meetings , psychiatric evaluation , along with blood work , Upper GI and sleep study. I know some places the process can be pretty fast paced. My experience is the opposite. Hope this helps.
  6. Thank you for your responses! That relieves my stress a little bit. I hate the unknown.
