  1. I just had my evaluation for surgery. Met with a dietician who said to follow the South Beach Diet. Asked NP if after reach goal will I be able to eat "normally" ie go out for an ice cream, go out to eat etc. She said I could have a teaspoon of ice cream not a small cup or cone. To me this is not normal eating which is what I am looking for. I would like to hear from sleevers who are at least 2 years out. Could you tell me how you eat, and how you feel about what you eat? I know I will not stick to a diet if I feel deprived. Do you get hungry, do you feel deprived. do you feel you can eat the same as most other people do or are you constantly wanting more or other types of food than you can have? Are food and worrying about losing/gaining weight still major issues in your life, or have you put that aside and moved on to other things? I want very much to end the war with food and weight, but from what I am reading it sounds like you still have to battle it everyday so how does the surgery help? I just want some honest answers so I can decide if this is a workable solution for me. Thank you in advance for any insight.

I'm not two years out but I think what happens is you have to relearn what your body can tolerate. I feel the signs of being full now, I eat what I want, including going out (not including fast foods or high sugars) but after a few bites my body tells me I'm done. If I can't have it, I look for proper substitutions i.e., halo top ice cream instead of regular ice cream. I was afraid of FOMO but it has not been an issue at all since surgery. Good luck!

  2. I can't have anything with aspartame, so I can't have Popsicle brand, but one that is very low calories & all is Outshine ice pops that look the same. The other thing that I did is, I drink Propel Water & I added some Crush or Kool Aid Water Enhancer, and made ice pops out of them. I told my nutrition team & they were fine with that since the water enhancer has no calories & also has no aspartame.

How about no sugar added fudgsicles or halo top ice cream?

  3. I met with my team yesterday and they are very happy with my progess. I'm down 64 lbs. At 8 weeks. Doc said I'm at 35% when most of his patients are at 20% after 8 weeks. His words "you're crushing this"! Its motivating to know I'm doing everything I can to get and keep these results. A few recent NSV's = running 22 min straight, bending over to tie my shoe, glowing skin and overall wellness. To those just starting, its a long journey but will be worth it. Those in the thick of it, keep going. And those who continue to maintain - keep inspiring! 20170808_091257_HDR.jpg

  4. Today I ran 16 minutes! Like, I ran ran. Training for a 5k. Completed week 5 day 2 of training tonight which called for two 8 minute runs. It feels good to be active again. Also, I was recently able to slip on a size 16 dress (down from a size 26) in about 8 weeks time! Keep running toward your goals and crush them!

  5. Anyone have any recommendations for unflavored Protein powders for post-op? I plan on mixing it with the Crystal Light, pudding, yogurt, applesauce etc after surgery to supplement the shakes if I'm not getting enough in. I understand it should not be the primary source of protein but I'm looking for something in between shakes.

I've used the Unjury unflavored. Its decent.

  6. 90% of the time when someone comments or asks about my weight loss I tell them I had surgery. Their next question is bypass or Lapband? I explain about the sleeve gastrectomy and answer any other questions they have. Everyone has been happy and express congratulations with how great I look and feel. A few have even asked for my surgeon's contact info...including my OB/Gyn who wanted to pass it on to other patients.
The end result of my openness is a better educated person who can now tell their friends "yeah, I know someone who had weight loss surgery and she looks great!" For me, it's been so much easier than lying and telling half-truths. If anyone is talking negatively behind my back, I don't know about it and wouldn't care anyways. For the 10 % I don't tell about surgery, those are usually clients that I don't particularly like and don't really want to have any sort of non-business related conversation with.

Agree Kindle! I've been open and honest with everyone. It's not an easy journey, there's a lot of work throughout this entire life process. I've had nothing but encouragement and support from my family, friends and others.

  7. TWO WEEK UPDATE! Had my two-week visit this week with my surgeon and everything looks great! My starting weight was 263 and I lost about 18 pounds by my surgery date which brought me to 245. I weighed yesterday and was 228 so that's another 17 pounds down which means I have lost about 35 pounds in one month's time! I had some pain and bruising from the surgery the first couple of days back at the house which was mostly gas. I was walking a mile a day on my treadmill....no not at one time...it was off and on all day long going about 1 mile per hour which is really slow. It really helped with my gas pains and now I am full work mode again! My feet no longer ache and my diabetes is starting to go into remission! My numbers are where it was WITH medication! My blood pressure now is in the low 100's/70's and so it's looking great as well! I am most excited about the way that I feel now! No longer sluggish but I have the energy to get things done! Looking forward to seeing my weight fall more and more and the sugar and blood pressure number stabilizing as well.

Its an awesome feeling knowing you're in control of your health and that with this tool - great things can happen! Keep up the hard work. Stay focused, motivated & dedicated! Best to you.
