Mine is the 18th and I'll be half way through tomorrow with the diet. Those that have been on it a few days, do you feel like you've lost any weight? I can't tell... getting in between 640-700 calories on this diet. I told my sleeve buddy how much I've been daydreaming about the puréed phase lol.

What shakes are you on? I'm on Day 3 today and I'm feeling tired and weak but my shakes are pretty good! I also found that the chicken broth makes me feel full as if I ate a meal... makes me think I ate chicken noodle soup! Lol

Old2NewMe got a reaction from ProudGrammy in surgeon postponed my procedureHello everyone. I had surgery scheduled for July 25th but due to my weight gain(yeah yeah, I know spare me the lecture please !) the surgeon does not feel comfortable going forward with the original date. So yeah, I know
I'm sorry to hear that. But you can't give up now. If you did, all you've done so far would be for nothing. It's a struggle but you can see the light at the end. Kudos for acknowledging you may need a therapist and actually seeing one! Good job! What were your pre-op requirements?

Hmm, it is really complicated and long.
First as far as identity and image that isn't just about body image. I spent my entire adult life as a plus sized woman. I shopped in the same stores. I had a certain style. I had a body I was familiar with, and that I did not hate. When I dropped enough weight, suddenly I had to find all new stores to shop in. I went from being an Apple shape to an hourglass. I had to change my style. I used to be able to look at clothes and know if they would work for me. I have to try every single thing on. Even now when my weigh has been fairly stable within 5 pounds for a few months I am still dropping inches and things no longer fit. I was comfortable as a plus sized person and that was part of my identity. Now I am no longer in the plus size club. I am smaller than the average woman in America who is now a size 16 or 18.
Not only has the way I think about myself in relation to the rest of the world changed, but how people treat me and react to me has changed a lot also. Women are not as friendly to me as they used to be when I was plus sized. I have always worn a lot of makeup and had big hair. When I used to be in Sephora as a fat girl with a beat face, people talked to me all the time. Normal size, beat face, cheek bones poppin even without highlighter, not as much convo. Men however treat me very differently. I always had men smile and talk to me, but now they really go out of their way to be super polite to me. Some of it has to do with how I dress now, usually dresses (typically bodycon or sheath) and heels. Looking more feminine really gains a lot of reaction from men, especially since most women rarely wear dresses and skirts and that is pretty much all I wear (they last a lot longer and are more forgiving to changing sizes).
As far as body image. I read a book that helped me a lot. Spending a lot of time on the internet plus what I do for my career, I am forced to look at what seems like perfect bodies all the time. That isn't really how people look. I use photoshop every day. I know all these images are fake, but I am still a victim of feeling like I don't measure up to those images. About 9 months ago I had a really hard time with my loose skin, but it has gotten better mentally, and physically. The longer I stay in the same size range, the better my skin gets and the better I look. Shapewear and dressing right for your body and personality can fix anything. Watching people whine on skin tight on TLC helps too. I realized they are making their problems worse by having a bad attitude about it. Most of them can't dress to save their lives and that is 90% of the problem. Also I accepted that I earned this body the hard way. Most people will never have the loose skin I have but they will also have never lost as much weight as I have. I wear shorts, sleeveless tops and work out in sports bra and leggings. I earned all these stripes. I think if I didn't like my body before then maybe it would be easier to accept my new body but I didn't hate myself before. If I could be fat and healthy I would probably still be fat. I wasn't a miserable fat person, I was a person with failing health, which was making me miserable.

I look great in clothes. I look great in clothes even without shapewear now. My boobs look great in a bra and they are fine if I am on my back . Like seriously the number of people that are ever going to see you naked, even if you are dating a lot is really low on a planet of 7 billion. It doesn't matter.
Therapists are useless, imo. I looked and tried out a few and all of them are just as dumb as the rest of the general pop. The ones I talked to just assumed that losing weight solves your problems, and their solutions for body image issues were trash. That book helped me think about myself more as a whole person and not a bunch of body parts and remember the real purpose of my body (even if you aren't religious, you can benefit)

I am very early in the process, as my surgery will be November at the earliest. I haven't really given any thought to a GW-- I want my feet to hurt less after a 12 hour work day; paint my own toenails; do yard work; run with my daughter; take a tub bath...the list goes on and on! It's the little things that I took for granted when I was thinner.

Old2NewMe reacted to Joann454 in Weight loss doing great, but darn, I'm always hungry!!!
I have to agree that it's head hunger or too many carbs or acid. Little changes can make a big difference. For instance, switch the nuggets for a grilled chicken sandwich and take it off the bun. You won't finish it but you're missing the breading that's on the nuggets. Stay away from the mashed potatoes and go for mashed cauliflower or Greek yogurt. The thing is, if we don't change our relationship with food, down the road you'll be able to eat all the nuggets plus fries. So practice making good choices now. Even though it's just a little bit of food it won't be eventually. It won't always be so draconian and you want to take advantage of this short window where it's easier to drop the lbs
Ok, but that's not really what you asked specifically. Yes, I've gone through this. I'm only seven weeks out but it's already much easier. It's become more normal to eat tiny amounts and not miss big meals. I've made myself physically ill once. I don't doubt that I'll do it again down the road. My advice is to find a therapist who specifically deals with Bariatric patients.
Congrats on your phenomenal weight loss though. That's amazing!

I wish i would have known there were thing out there for constipation relief...i really suffered. It's ans embarrassing subject, but one that needs to be talked about. You can also get Miralax and put it in your Protein shake..

Hang in there. I'm on day 10. By day 7, it seemed to get easier for me. More energy to get through work without out wanting a nap. Today was harder for me with food cravings for some reason. Then went to my friends 50th BDay party made it thru that & I've made it thru the day.

    You can do this!

Old2NewMe reacted to Adenosine in Sleeved today!
I was sleeved today (well, now yesterday) on 7/7. So far so good! I had a good amount of pain and nausea in the recovery room, but one dose of pain medication and nausea medication helped that a lot. My procedure was at 9am and I was down for my swallow study at 3pm! All went well--the barium was nasty to swallow by itself, but it had to be done so alas it was lol. I've been walking so so much since I've come up to my room. So far I've done about 30 laps on the unit which is equivalent to 1 1/4 miles.
I had another episode of pain later in the evening about 6:30, so they gave me more pain medication. I've been doing well since then. I definitely have a lot of air in my abdomen and shoulder, but the walking helps. I've been sipping at liquids (soup broth, sugar free hello, and some diet lemonade) since about 7, which is getting easier as the night goes on. I have a lot of pressure in my abdomen when I drink, but I still can't tell if it's from drinking or from the surgery itself. It's such a weird sensation, not knowing if what you're feeling is hunger or just weird sensations in the stomach! I still don't quite know how much I should be drinking at a time, so I'm just sipping until my body gives me feedback.
My GI doc and surgeon will come by to see me in the morning, and if all is well I'll be released tomorrow afternoon! I've had absolutely no pain from the incision sites--it's like I almost forgot they were there! One time I touched near one of them and felt it a little bit, but otherwise no pain! They did a few internal dissolvable stitches and then glue on top, so all I can see is the glue. My stomach does hurt when I try to do something like sit up in bed that uses my ab muscles, but it's tolerable. I'm excited to see how the next several days go, and hoping that the drinking liquids gets easier and to a point that I'm better able to tell what's hunger. I can't wait to start the rest of my life now though!

I am on day 10 of pre-op diet. Clear Liquids only for the last 3 days.
Yes I want to tear my hair out. It is not easy. I just keep telling myself that I can choose to break the diet anytime I want - BUT then I have to cancel or postpone my surgery. So following the diet is MY CHOICE! Thinking of it this way feels more empowering. Having a choice is empowering.
    Good luck!
