  1. I was with Dr, Illan and the Oasis of Hope on 8/10/17. It was one of the best experiences of my life.... Tell your family and friends this is not a nose job or breast implants.... your making a last ditch effort to save your life... I actually had friends and family tell me I was okay being obese because they were use to it and it made them comfortable ???

Take half of everything you packed and throw it back on the bed ... you don't need it..

I went alone and I have heard a lot of ladies saying how empowering it is to go alone.. So you're only taking care of yourself , not someone else. And like everyone else says with all the valets and drivers you are never alone...

  2. I had sleeve surgery 8/10/17.. in Tijuana...I swear I had the exact same view...lol I cannot say enough about how wonderful Dr Illian and Bariatric Pal were... the whole team of Doctors and nurses to valets and drivers....They just have their system down and it runs so smooth....you fly in same day they do all your testing and you're in surgery before you have time to get scared... I loved it... I love my new tool ..... and I would do it again in a heartbeat.. I was type 2 diabetes on pills 6 years when I went in...So for me it was Diabetic surgery as much as it was weight loss... you will always hear Dr. ilian patients you the phrase "10 years ago" and that is so true.. BTW at @ $4600 I figure my diabetes and blood pressure medicines will pay for the surgery in about 6 years.... that is not even counting the heart attack I was planning on having next year....

Everything went really well! I'm so thankful that I got on here and reached out to meet some people that are on the same path as me...it honestly helped make the experience so much easier!

Samantha, So good to hear... How long did you stay in the Hospital/hotel before you flew out ?

    Hi Everyone,

I had surgery on June 22 followed by a required 2 night stay at the hospital. Last night was great being able to sleep in my own bed! Today has been interesting with the fluids. I have had 40oz of Water and 22oz of Premier Protein shakes(60G of protein). My question is sometimes when drinking either one i feel this weird movement down my chest into my stomach. Kind of like a gas or cramp feeling. Just wanted to see if that was normal and if so how long it lasts!

    Thanks

From watching YT videos, Try patting your chest.....that seems to help early on... then after a while the problem goes away on it's on.

I was Type 2 as well, sleeved on June 16 and my AM fasting blood sugars have gone from 250+ to around 110. My endocrinologist took me off glipizide pre-op and my surgeon took me off Metformin post-op so I haven't taken any meds for a week or so now. I'm still in the liquid stage, so total carbs around 15-20 per day but I plan on staying as low-carb as possible when I move onto real food.

Good luck with your surgery! It's scheduled on my birthday so that's always a good day! 😀

BT816 , So happy to hear this brother, my fasting BS is around 150 ....but It has always been highest in the morning...and will go down in the afternoon after I ate...and it's not just the medicine... I take 5mg glipizide ..without it the metformin does nothing..it never did. It seems like that all of a sudden this year I'm having control problems... but I am 5 years on metformin/glipizide..and it could just be the natural progression of things. I'm a Commercial Driver and Insulin is not a option. I have lost weight numerous times where at 225-228 I'm off all Medicine. I'm glad your doing so well. I went from being terrified of the IV... To terrified of waking up in pain of the Hernia repair/sleeve.

Sugar is already included in the Total carbs, as is Fiber. That is why you subtract the fiber. You don't add the sugar back, that would be counting it twice.

I was always counting Carbs the Atkins way....But after a little research I see there are several ways people are doing it...Some are only counting Total Carbs and that's it....Thank you Apple1 , I hope I have as much success as you in my Diabetic Surgery.
