  1. -No carbs whatsoever until we're in maintenance (I've mainly followed, although I'm not sure about staying into ketoacidosis so long.)
-No alcohol until at least 6 months and make sure you're at home the first time.
    -Limit caffeine
-Atleast 30 minutes of exercise a day. Try for an hour. (I have no problem getting this in.)
-No fruit until 6 months out because we don't eat much they don't want us filling up on the fruit and its sugars.

I've mainly stuck to these rules although I don't agree with all of them.

No carbs what so ever ? Or do you mean no refined carbs. I'm assuming your allowed vegetable.

  2. This extreme? I have. My own husband. I too was in the same boat with my husband shutting down what I thought was any chance of an open discussion about the topic.
Whilst, he has the right to make his choice on the matter, all I wanted was that he make an informed decision. His apprehension to this, was as I suspected due to the fact that he thought it was the easy way out and that I was doing purely out vanity, but I asked him some tough questions, like was he willing to push me around in the a wheel chair should my weight debilitate me, could he stand to see me in constant pain,??? Because I was unwilling to let him carry that burden so I continue to approach about it. Eventually he gave me a hearing, and like a well prepared defence attorney, I had everything ready, before n after photos, YouTube videos, facts about the operation and everything in between.
Today I’m 5 weeks away from surgery and he his my biggest support. He only has good things to look forward to and even though there is time for things to change, but I keep letting him know changes are going to come about and that we will overcome them together. Whilst pre-op diet is important for surgery, so is pre-op marriage discussions. Don’t wait until post op for things to rear it’s ugly head.. try and tackle the issues before the surgery, you’ll find your better for it.
Be patient and work on it, he will eventually get past his scratch the surface knowledge of the surgery and will be able to see surgery is definitely not the easy way out.
    All the best.
Yes. I personally haven't encountered such an extreme reaction. But understand people being worried or not agreeing. But I'm sure there are all kinds of people out in the world. :) I hope your advice will help the op as I hope it doesn't stop her doing it

  3. Hey There!
So i got sleeved in 2012 lost weight for 6 months, then stopped. Never got to goal weight and didnt start gaining again until this last year. I went to a bariatric surgeon yesterday and he was awesome. He told me my sleeve hasnt stretched but rather I was sleeved incorrectly and the original surgeon left me with a large pouch thats why I stopped losing so quickly after thr first 6 months. He gave me the option of getting resleeved or converting to a bypass although he recco.ends the bypass. Im leaning towards resleeving. Im scared of rny complications and i feel like the vsg is less invasive. What do yall think?
Im currently 238lbs and want to get down to 160lbs at the most. He said with the sleeve I could potentially get down to 180lbs (which honestly Id be happy with) but with bypass 160lbs easily.
    Any suggestions or opinions?

I don't understand why you won't reach 160 with sleeve. Maybe he thinks you need the extra tool of malabsorption . I was 244 surgery day 6 month to get into 160s ...

  4. Thank you all for your input! This forum has been a source of inspiration and support for me.

As for my husband, I dropped the subject of WLS surgery temporarily so that we could enjoy Valentine’s Day and his birthday this past weekend without conflict. We have both put in a lot of work on our marriage in the past few years, and I’m not willing to throw all of that away. I have decided to write him a letter outlining how important this is to me and the reasons I want to do it. I sometimes have a difficult time articulating my point when we’re in a heated discussion. I have also discussed this issue with our best friends who are a couple that we spend a lot of time with. They are excited for me, and are prepared to back me up and help him see that he’s being selfish by withholding his support on this. If he’s still not on board by the time of my appointment with the surgeon in March, I may schedule an appointment with our pastor who is a licensed counselor that my husband has the utmost respect for.

I’m feeling hopeful again about the possibility of changing my life for the better! [emoji4]

He should have the ut most respect for you. Saying he won't even discuss it. How disrespectful can someone be. You know that's not normal right ? After the surgery when you lose all the weight your eyes become clearer and suddenly you realise your worth. Perhaps he doesn't want that to happen. As you won't tolerate that kind of disrespect when you value your self more . Goodluck. I doubt he will come onboard with the prospect of his wife looking better than him as it sounds like that might be it.

And what happens if after all that. He still isn't onboard? What then? I honestly haven't seen someone being this extreme . Sure you may not like your partners choice but you still have to respect them as a human being and allow them to do what's best for them. You can't just withhold your support Everytime you don't agree.

  6. Thanks All.

Another question..... are folks eating by ounce or by cup? For example if I have ground turkey - 4 oz is like a cup or so which seems like a lot?? I can at it and am full afterward. It just looks like a lot and wonder if I should be measuring out like a half a cup versus ounces

    HW 242, SW 236- Bypass 12/20/17
    GW#1- 199 [emoji736]. GW#2- 175

I measure ounces. If it seems like alot. You don't have to eat it all. As some foods I eat less than 4 ounces.

  7. My op was the 12th. [emoji4]
What's your post op diet like then? I'm on liquids-only for a minimum of 2 weeks then I gradually move to pureed food for a few weeks then soft then normal consistency stuff. I'm only having Protein Shakes, strained/sieved Soup and the occasional Bovril at the moment. I am only drinking Water and Decaf coffee. It's all very dull.
Were you prescribed Adcal? I'm only taking the chewable Centrum but it doesn't have Calcium in it so maybe I should look into getting some... eeek!
I take Omeprazole. Iron twice a day. Calcium twice a day. Multi vits. B 12 injection at 6 weeks. Then every 3 months. All on prescription

  8. How much is everyone eating? I'm one week out and can eat 2 oz but still hungry a half hour later . When will I be able to eat more at least 4 to 6 oz?

When you swap to Protein dense not liquid you may not even dream of 6 oz for a long time. Depending on alot of variables . Taller people, men etc may have more space. I'm 7 m out and still on small portions. 4/5oz less for some food. 2 ounces for some.

  9. I'm 3.5 weeks post-op and had my first "social eating" experience last night, which was dinner at someone's house with 3 other couples. Thankfully it's our closest friends and I told them about the surgery, but it was weird to put a teeny tiny amount of food on my plate (bless her, the host made pulled chicken and roasted vegetables so I was able to eat everything everyone else was, minus dessert). At the table, there were definitely jokey "whoa, that's a lotta food you got there" comments, which didn't really bother me, but did make me realize that eating like this around people who DON'T know about the surgery is going to be a challenge, and I will actually have to do it on a trip for work net week (where I'll be at a conference, eating around 100 other people). For those who are further along, what are your tips for social eating? Do you ask for small/different meals, or do you ever put a normal amount of food on your plate and just pick at it (which I'm thinking would be wasteful, but less conspicuous than only taking what you can actually eat)? Do you tell strangers about your surgery? (I can't imagine I'd do that.) Would love to hear people's first-hand strategies for navigating this (especially if you're still on the soft food stage, like me). Thanks.
Why would I tell strangers? I'm not hiding it. But I don't go round telling strangers about my life. Im not too hungry is enough. Now I am fine with a starter. Or a salad for main.

  10. I had my RNY on 1/30/18 and my birthday was 1/12... I had already told my dietician that I had planned on going out to dinner and have my calamari and a salad and call it “ my last supper” lol for awhile anyways.. I already ate the way the liver shrinking diet so it wouldn’t mess it up too much and I had my own personal goal BEFORE my surgery... and I made it the morning of my surgery... when I went in a few days for the group pre op class I had them weigh me and was excited because I made sure I hadn’t screwed up any of my work prior to surgery... they know we will go up and down a little, that’s why we need the surgery but think about your “whys” and our whys taste so much better than any food [emoji4][emoji106]
    congrats on your upcoming surgery!!!
I have Calamari when I go out. 7m post from the starter menue .. have a few pieces for my main. Yum !

  11. I am now scheduled for a sleeve in 6 weeks. My last 7 months dieting has been successful, my habits have changed, and I even cook for myself now.
But now, I just want to "relax" until the pre-op diet and just enjoy a few last pleasures. I live with other people, and if they get a pizza, I get a slice. I'll dip into their fried chicken and I even had a Whopper the other day.
These transgressions started with my final/extra/options meeting with a dietician when we talked about restaurants, and they give the patients "excuse" cards to eat from the kids menu, because even a 6oz steak might be too much. No problem really, but now just want to not be so hard core on my diet. I am not breaking my diet everyday, or hitting buffets, just different things, because in 6 weeks, it's the end.

My weight is stable since a month a never gain weight. But i believe fhe quality of food i am eating is not good. I need ideas what to eat because i fell fast with good food

  13. Hey guys im so frustrated with the pace of my weight loss.
Im 2 months out and only 25 pounds down and i find myself constantly worrying that I'm not going to loose the weight at all .
Im exercising and eating the way i should be !!
Anyone have any advice for me ?????
Sent from my SM-J105B using BariatricPal mobile app

Have you ever lost 'only' 25lbs in two months before?

  14. I’m over a year post opp and I still can’t eat a whole tuna sandwich on simple sandwich bread. Either your stomach swelling went down already or you are eating too fast. Keep in mind that you got surgery to lose weight and become healthy. Drink Water an hour before your meal. Chew slower. Don’t watch tv or be distracted, focus on the food so you can see how much and what you are eating. Also watch portions. Next time make the sandwich and only put half on your plate wrap the rest up for later

I wonder didn't other people not get pain. Im 7 m post and the pain from a whole sandwich would be unbearable. I wouldn't even try it. I agree eating too fast it must be. As that's like an extra trick for me is eating extra slow and the first hint of fullness I stop and don't go back to it.

  15. I have been told to be on a semi fluids diets and it ends this thrusday so when I get to solids what should I eat the post op diet didn’t cover it

I'm in the UK. I didn't know there is a hospital here that doesn't give you a plan. There are so many variables though. UK plans seem super different to abroad

  16. Hi everyone!! I had my surgery on 12/1 and so far my progress has been really good. (I think) I have lost a little over 50lbs. As many of you have experence, I have a lot of loose skin forming. Anyone have suggestions on how to minimize it? I really dont want to have surgery to have it removed, so any suggestions would be awesome.
Good luck. Let us all know if you get a response with a solution. For now I'll keep on with my shape wear and tuck bits away

  17. I am interested if your doctor/Nutritionist allowed you to have coffee 1 month after surgery. See poll attached. Seems like there is some confusion as to whether or not it is okay to drink.
There is no confusion. Yes drink it if your plan allows it. no if your plan doesn't. It's that simple. Everyone's plan isn't the same. I was allowed it day after surgery

  18. Hi ladies,

I am currently 16 months post op with pcos and I have lost 100 kilos.

At 12 months we were given the go ahead to try for a baby but my periods stopped. After months of testing they found I have really low estrogen due to the rapid weightloss ( apparently this is common).

We are starting induced ovulation with fsh injections next week. I'm just wondering what you eat/ate while trying to conceive or once you were pregnant?

Did your doctor not tell you how to eat ?.. pretty important question to ask.

  19. I'm looking forward to my op but I am a bit nervous for down the line. One thing I'm nervous about is, when I lose weight, will I struggle with a disassociation with my body? I've struggled with depression and all sorts over the years. I deal with it and talk about it but it's made me be very aware of myself. I'm curious if you still feel like you. I want to lose weight but not the person I am, if that makes sense. Anyone make sense of my bumbling?

Sorry. I lost the person I was. And I'm glad about that lol. Obcourse your going to change alittle. I've lost almost 80lbs everyone changes towards you suddenly you go from invisible to super special and everyone wants to make you happy so yeah I've changed. I value myself more. My standards are higher.and I'm more confident. Yes I don't realise how small I'm getting till people tell me but it's not serious. I'm happy with my progress and it does take the mind awhile to catch up
