  1. So far surgery is a success.  I'm on liquids 'clear' and 'full' until day 17, then I start blending all my food...haha, yay? I've tried very small pieces of a few soft solid foods. It takes about 2 minutes for everything to register that it is being rejected.. Then I throw it up about 15 times, rather unpleasant. So suffice to say, it has been easy to stick to liquids like I'm supposed to :)  Thick cream soups kind of have the safe effect. Protein shakes however, are going down, slowly, but going down none the less. Down 12lbs since surgery 8 days ago. Even received compliments, the "your face looks skinnier" compliment. It's odd but I'll take it ;)

Congrats on the surgery! Just stick with it, focus on meeting getting your fluids in and before you know it you'll be advanced to the next food stage. It gets much easier as you go along. Hang in there!

It does it better. I was scared to desth to overfill my pouch. I ate minimally and did more liquid. And tons of water. I ended up having to get propel and some pedialite. Also I went to whole foods and got a really good probiotic for when you do get to more solid foods.

I have thrown up several times ove from just one bite too much. you habe to change everything. I am gkad I was never addicted to food. I got several hateful responses saying we arent suppossed to throw up but I have over fifty friends. different states and drs. specialist and its all normal in the first couple months. The nutrisionist said one day you may not tolerate one food but try it again later on. Its one thimbal full at a time one food at a time.

    SAIL INTO SUMMER CHALLENGE

7/14/17 Goal Weight:250 Started at:278 Currently: 257.4 Surgery was nice to me this week
  3. The first Starbucks we stopped at made me wish I had brought a package of wet-naps, to wipe literally everything.. toilet seat, handles, opening doors lol..every public washroom I had to stop at was like this.Yeah, I'm not usually a germ-a-phob, but Tijuana can do that to you. They never gave me any trouble over the jar of protein powder I had at all the customs stops, even when it was opened. Things I was super happy I did bring: iPad full of Netflix movies in english, gas-x-strips, 10ft phone charging cord.

No water 13 hours pre op??

I was told to stop drinking water at 10pm the night before by the team of people who were going to cut me open, so I didn't bother to complain, surgery was around 9am or so. Yes, I drank a lot of water at 9:59pm, but that was in preparation for post op in case I had issues with getting water down. My question is this: Who is honestly so unquestionably dehydrated prior to surgery that they are unable to go 13hrs without water??? You're sleeping most of that time anyway! Where is it that the temperature is really 45 degrees? I was in Tijuana and it only hit 37...

    July Schedule

Well I'm in my clinic room with Netflix for the evening, we go back at 7am tomorrow to our hotel.. surgery was surgery, I kind of slept through the whole thing. I didn't wake up in an ICU so I'm assuming in went good. I have been walking the hall lots hoping the gas pain in my abdomen goes away. I've been given ice chips and water and electrolite water and unfortunately everything that's passed my lips makes my stomach really hurt, hoping that'll pass by the evening. The staff are great, and the other patients in the clinic are so awesome..

I'm from Canada and I was kind of going for something speedy, my province can take years to approve you, but after all is said and done, the Alberta govt program covers it essentially 100%. Privately having it done is around $20,000.Tijuana took 30 days exactly from first phone call to surgery, and I just paid the $9,000 cash.

I can let you know tomorrow? my surgery is in the morning, just at flew in a few hours ago. I'm with Dr.Ariel Ortiz with the OCC, for anybody that's curious, Tijuana is a ****-hole, but the Marriott they put you up in is gorgeous! They'll feed you broth, whether you want it brought to your room or served to you in the restaurant so your companion can also eat. There's a wal-mart super close by. The hotel will bring me popsicles and jello anytime, and the bathrooms are nice and big!! Unfortunately the woman I came with who brought her son went to a different hotel because the Marriott is full right now, so I don't have a surgery buddy unless I see her tomorrow.

    Scar remover cream

I've also heard before about rubbing scars to break up the tissue and I tend to forget about it. Great advice!Thank you!
  10. Finally, 2 days out!:D:1312_thumbsup_tone3: I'm busy every minute until then luckily, I have to drive out of town to leave my puppy with my mom for the week, then pack when I get back into the city. After that its a shower before bed and get to the airport for approximately 3am. We stop in Salt Lake City to connect flights, and show up in San Diego at noon. Surgery tests are in the afternoon. Relaxing movie before bed with my fiance, then surgery in the morning. I sure am happy I emailed my coordinator and asked for a morning surgery time! Glad I thought to do that..The more things to take my mind off of pending surgery the better ;)

I can probably surmise that this has been more of a thought dump than a productive status update.

I'll update when I find internet in Tijuana

    First week of puréed foods

I love food prep! What all have you got made there ?
  12. Hahahaha I am currently on google with "what does 80 grams of protein look like" The answer is, a LOT The sad part is that an egg white is only 3.6 grams . Thank goodness for chicken breasts, tuna and beans because I can't stand yogurt and it's so highly recommended all over the place for protein.

    Ofiacilly sleeved yesterday YAY!!

Odd question, but..how DO you release the gas? Do you just walk around farting? lol
  15. yes thank you @TheUnrealJohn , I thought I was the only person who was like way too in my head about nonsensical things. Funny that I've even wondered the same thing about espresso, we have it at work instead of drip coffee and its fantastic.. I wonder about foods that I'm not going to like anymore and I specifically think of salt and vinegar chips. Occasionally I think it would be easier if I could just nap through time, and wake up right after surgery.. I read half way through 'The Big Book on The Gastric Sleeve', btw the first half is just a gigantic list of possible complications, a tad unnerving to say the least, I try not to read it before bed. I wake up in the morning and post op is literally the first thing on my mind...2 more days.2 very long days hahaha

Do they always go in laparoscopic?

Not always, sometimes through the navel only, Perhaps like a bypass when sometimes they do the old fashioned way where they cut you from the belly button to the chest line and open you up like you're a miniature box of cereal (In honesty I would get a surgeons opinion, laparoscopic is the least intrusive way to go as far as I know, anyones pictures will show how minimal the scarring is, and look very impressive)
  18. Its official, I'm tired of all my meals being either chocolate or vanilla flavor. I'm a salt person lol.  I have a dozen options to get creative with the shakes, and I've mixed it all. I'm out of options, and in three days I move to 48hr liquid diet anyways. Thankfully its Saturday, incredibly easy to stay occupied all day (the old me might have met friends for beer and food, but not anymore :D )  Only 9 more shakes to go and they are done until post surgery. YAY! My 48hr liquid diet includes "strained cream soup",this makes no sense to me, why strained? why cream? Its feels counter-intuitive to have something manufactured, that's high in fat and has crazy sodium levels. Does anybody else have this included in their pre-op diet or am I the anomaly?!

I'm not a big sweets person so broth and unflavored protein powder were my savior.

    SAIL INTO SUMMER CHALLENGE

June 30th Current Weight: 275.8 Goal Weight: 250 Surgery in 6 days, very excited and slightly nervous about a bunch of people poking around inside of me with sharp tools haha
  20. You're more than half way there! Great work Hunger comes and goes. A complication during surgery because of not following the plan might last forever. I'm on the 6th of July so I'm in the same boat. Every time I get through a craving I give myself either a mental or sometimes literal pat on the back. These experiences are all small successes and deserve to be acknowledged, you'll be done in no time!

I think I've cried more in the last 3 weeks (usually at romantic comedies) then I have in the last 3 years combined haha. I wasn't told to stop my BC, however I take get DepoProvera. Have you emailed to see why? Is it specifically because they are pills?
  22. oh heck yes, I had bought an all natural organic 100% pure jar of peanut butter right before I decided surgery. I had learned the trick to pour all the oil off the top to lower fat a lot, and I did. For the last week or so, I've had a small spoon of peanut butter almost every day, teaspoon at most. Its so unbelievably thick from the fridge that it takes almost 10 minutes to slowly eat a spoonful. I enjoy every second of it. Besides that, the only other cheats I did were on day 1 of my all shakes, then all easily edible food was removed from the house or thrown in the garbage. Down 20lbs in 3 weeks so I don't exactly feel bad about it (well secretly I feel a little bad..)

Okay so it's come to my attention that I'm not sure how to edit this post more than once, can anybody help me out with this? I'd really appreciate the help Or am I just going crazy? I think support from the other people going through this is important, and I want everyone to be able to connect with the people who might be going through this at the same time if you want. So this isn't meant to be more than informative in case you want to message or follow people having surgery in July. If I've made any mistakes I apologize, just message me and I can edit the list There are certainly noticeably busy days! If you'd like to be added msg me, again sorry if I got an incorrect date, I just wanted to try and help because there are a lot of threads about July, and it's fast approaching. Preop weight loss

I had to lose 15lbs, she wants me to be at 280 for surgery. I essentially quit sugar cold turkey. After about 3 days I knew what foods I just couldn't stop eating in my house (I'd grab a handful of trail mix, all candy, cheetos etc) and asked my fiance to take it all to work. Now I was without sugar, and my nutritionist listed the veg I couldn't have (corn, potatoes, snap peas-essentially high carb veg, and no fruit). I lost all 15 Lbs within the first week without sugar. I ate meals that were small meat portions, and vegetables. If I was hungry I'd munch green vegetables, or even grab a pre made portion of protein from the fridge. I more or less learned how to stay out of the kitchen eventually after learning that opening cupboards wasn't going to make snack food magically appear. We don't have snacks at work at all, and my fiance would never let me eat sugar at home haha
