  2. have you had surgery before? everyone reacts different to the surgery. some bounce right back and the only thing holding them back is the time needed for all those stitches to heal. others react poorly to being put under and take longer to recover from the stress your body is put thru by this procedure. Only you can maybe know how you will react if you have been under for another reason.
desk job with fixed hours and no lifting - 2 weeks would work
manual labor with heavy lifting - 6 weeks easy
look at your daily routine and decide
then take all you can and be nice to yourself for a few weeks [emoji4]
I've had several surgeries I did really good, my concern I might be to weak to keep up with the daily task at my job. I'm going to put in 3 weeks with the option to come back early. Thank uou

  3. I had a full six weeks.
I work over 12 hours, much of that is on my feet. I have to be able to assist and transfer patients and such.
The time off you need is highly dependent on the nature of your work. I would always err on the side of caution and take a higher amount of time off if you have it and are financially able.
Thank you, this really helped me.

  4. I am about to head to the hospital for my surgery!!!

As most of you know, I have been struggling a lot with nerves and jitters... thank you all for helping with that!

I woke up this morning and said to myself, “Just look at this like it’s an opportunity!”

I feel much more zen about the next four hours of my life now. [emoji4]
Best wishes on your big day!

  5. Hey all. I am now 4 days post op. It has been an adventure, but thought I would share. My surgery was scheduled for 9:15 am Thurs morning, I was wheeled back around 9:30 so not to bad. Surgery took about 2hours (RNY) they also did a liver biopsy, and egd, and found and repaired a hiatal hernia. I woke up in A LOT of pain. They tried to get me up and walking when I got to my room but I was shaky, dizzy, light headed and super nacseous (Know that's spelled wrong). That first night was very very rough but they left a catheter in so I didn't have to get up till morning. My pain meds were not lasting I could get something every four hours but my pain surged back to full after 2hours. I must have felt bad because it seems like I told everyone I wanted to die. [emoji45].

This is not to scare anyone I swear stick with me because my 9 the next morning less than 24 hours after my surgery it was already SO MUCH BETTER. In the morning I grabbed a resident and told him to address my pain what they had me on was not working. He listened and they staggered my pain meds between two kinds. My mom (who is 5weeks post-op) pushed and got that catheter out to make me get up, and got me on Water. Then my mom set me in a chair in the bathroom in my room and washed my arms and back legs and face...she basically reminded me I was human and to stop saying I wanted to die! I did my first full lap around the bariatric floor and didn't feel like dieing. I was officially on the mend.

It is going g to be rough, gas pain is no joke, I think the majority of my pain was gas and hiatal hernia. But you will get through it, tell them what you need, and have support there for you that know what you need, will fight for you, remind you you are worth fighting for, and who will sit and hold your hand when nothing else helps.
    Thank you for sharing!

  6. Okay so I am having a really hard time. My surgery is in 3 months but I am having a difficult time choosing the right foods to eat. I used to go out EVERYDAY with my coworkers to get lunch (burgers and fries, burritos and tacos, doughnuts, anything unhealthy I would be going there and buying lunch. So now that I have to stop and choose the right food choices to eat, I am finding it so difficult when I see them leave to go get lunch and I am drinking a Protein Shake or any other type of Meal Replacement. Can anyone give me advice on how to get through this "hunger phase"? Motivation to just stick through this process.

Hi, I understand how you feel over the last 6 months I struggled. It depends your diet that you're on. Are you on 20 carbs a day? You might can have lean meat and vegetables for lunch and dinner but Breakfast have your Protein Shake for snack sugar free Jello. Sometimes you can go out with your coworkers. If you get a burger don't eat no bread. That's what I was supposed to be on lol I got off track sometimes practice make perfect. I made it through you can too. Best wishes on your weight loss journey!

  7. My time is winding down my surgery is Wednesday getting closer and I’m nervous . I’m still struggling with some depression and I couldn’t be my emotions but I believe I’ve done all I could about my weight on my own. I’ve always been heavy even though people try to excuse it because I look good (not trying to toot my own horn) but people always says that it was okay for me to be big because I’m not ugly but besides that the sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and asthma has taken over my life. I’ve gather some great tips from this website and YouTube and I just pray that I make it with out any complications..I choose not to tell my parents or any of my friends because I can’t handle the excuse or negativity I just can’t anymore I’m feeling a little guilty as well but I’ll get over it
I'm excited to go through your journey with you! I can't wait for you to post your experience. My surgery is next Thursday! I pray everything will go okay. Take care of yourself and stay hydrated.
