    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

My dietician said it can fall out for a year then I’ll see baby hairs grow in. I’m getting a keratin treatment Friday so I won’t need to do any heat

Oh no! My hair is falling out!

Totally. I even eat “high” calories for being 5 months out according to my dietician. It’s just frustrating. Emptying my brush every couple days is such a pain in the ass even though it’s a minor task. Surgeons NP said hair loss will basically continue for a year then I’ll notice baby hairs. I’m hoping it’ll grow back sooner because when I reach my doctors goal weight (15-18 lbs to go) and I switch to more of a bulking diet so I can put on more muscle.
  3. I had to quit the seroquel. By itself it made me gain a ton of weight and caused basically uncontrollable midnight cravings for crap foods. Combo made me gain 100 lbs. (totally not sure if I already wrote that). At least Lamictal is working well as my sole bipolar med for now. Always mildly manic but it helps me do two a days in the gym. Lol

Anyone have people make well meaning but kind of rude or insulting comments? I’ve had numerous people say I’m melting away, disappearing, and I’m half a person. I respond much better to stuff like you look fantastic! Or comments on how quickly I’m building and showing muscle. Half a person? No, I’m a whole person...just smaller!

I had to buy mediums and now they’re too big so I’ve bought smalls. SMALLS!! And I also bought tank tops in small and XS. Even if it’s vanity sizing, that’s still a M or L in non-vanity sizing. It’s mind blowing!

Oh no! My hair is falling out!

Sleeved aug 23 and my hair has started falling out in small clumps. My vitamins are good and I usually eat 800-1300 calories depending on my workout that day. Dietician says it’s “normal” but I don’t understand why if I’m meeting my macros. However, it could also be an autoimmune relapse. That was my first symptom.

I don’t take any more vitamins besides D3 and b12 injections, which I needed before surgery as I don’t absorb either. We’ll see what my next labs say. Perfect last time besides b12 being too high. Sleeved aug 23.
  8. I’ve been BPII for about 13 years. Seroquel made me gain 100 lbs. I’m down 80 and have had no problem at all absorbing my meds. Some of them come in liquid or can be compounded but the ones I’ve tried taste like ass. I didn’t take my BP meds for 2 days after surgery because I was scared to try but they all went down perfectly, though slowly. I take about 15 pills a night. 4 of them are horse pills.

Congratulations!! I’ve been waiting for mine to get below 30 so I could be approved for hernia repair and when I reached 29 I wanted to throw myself a party. Getting off CPAP will be awesome!

I feel like a failure too sometimes since my stats seem awful compared to other people. Times like that I remind myself I’m wearing smalls and mediums in clothes and easily fitting in jackets from college. Haven’t tried my skinny jeans yet. I have started to treat myself occasionally. I’ll have a bite of chocolate or a small bowl of pasta. I just have set macros for the day depending on whether it’s a gym day and make sure I meet my nutritional and caloric goals for the day. We need to be more gentle on ourselves. Not make excuses for poor decisions but recognize we’re all human and one bad meal or snack won’t make or break our success.
  11. My friend has gastroparesis and had a subtotal gastrectomy with RNY. She dumps if she just looks at the wrong foods and actually **** her bed in her sleep. She still has a feeding tube so she thinks it was too high in lipids. Modified her feeds and hasn’t **** the bed since. Makes me extremely grateful I’m not sensitive to sugar or fat.

Hate commenting twice in a row but I do HIIT for workouts! I do between 5-10 workouts a week. Been at it for almost a year but only recently started the two a days. It’s the best!

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Just catching up on this thread and I thought I’d let you know you aren’t the only slow loser! I’m down about 55 lbs as well but I’m in the 180s! And fitting in clothes I wore in my mid 20s. I see bones and muscles and it’s insane. I bet people have noticed just haven’t commented. I make a point never to comment on weight because in the wrong person can trigger or enforce an eating disorder. The only people who have commented are at my gym or the place I’ve been shopping for workout clothes at for years. My mom doesn’t say a word and neither did my dad when I saw him for Christmas.
  14. You made me laugh with coconut gas. Coconut oil is actually a huge staple in my diet. I make no sugar added blackberry coconut fat bombs to increase my fat intake. I’ve never dumped, even when I have more sugar than I should. The holiday Trader Joe’s mousse presents were my weakness. My food tolerance is extremely limited because I developed delayed gastric emptying and with most foods I can only have a bite or two an hour. My meals take a very very long time to eat except my “safe foods”
  15. Thought I’d share about this since it’s extremely rare but I bet there’s someone out there like me. I developed gastroparesis maybe 3 months post op. Surgery August 23. Suddenly had difficulty eating most foods and it progressed to difficulty drinking. I thought I had a stricture and had a barium study. Nope, gastroparesis aka delayed gastric emptying. Anyone in my shoes? For now they put me on a low fiber diet and basically said eat and drink what my body allows. I see a specialist toward the end of the month. He might want a gastric pacer but my surgeon said Even though he has no experience with it post op, only pre-op, do not consider a pacer for a few years. My sister and friend had it. Sister had a GJ tube and my friend actually just had a total gastrectomy and bypass to try and cure it. So basically, I’m overwhelmed.

    Post-op Gastroparesis

I stopped narcotic pain relievers a year ago. I have autoimmune disorder but I don’t take any meds that would cause delayed emptying and surgery should actually speed it up. It did start around 3 months. Could have been sooner and I just didn’t realize my issues were abnormal. My surgeon is at a total loss since developing it after surgery is so rare. I can’t even find studies or articles about it, just how a sleeve can cure diabetic gastroparesis. There’s only a handful of foods I can eat. The other day I had half an in n out burger wrapped in lettuce and I could feel it in my stomach and chest for about 6 hours. I see a specialist next week and there’s meds I can take but they come with some nasty side effects per my friend’s experience. We’ll see. I still think surgery was the best decision I’ve ever made. Officially down almost 80 lbs and hit the 180s today.
  17. I eat a pretty high fat diet but it’s (mostly) healthy fats. I do allow myself a tiny single serving of dessert from time to time. I eat a lot of coconut oil. I basically do high fat, high protein, low carb except on days I do a heavy workout when I eat “ancient grains”, which are healthy carbs. I burn between 400-1000 calories a day working out and need those macros. Haven’t gone anywhere near Chinese. I have a couple slices of pizza (one at a time) and burgers wrapped in lettuce.

    Post gastric sleeve

Ive officially been diagnosed with gastroparesis. I thought I had a stricture. Nope, potentially much worse. My surgeon was at a loss for words because it’s so rare to develop GP after surgery. Surgery is usually used to cure GP, especially in diabetics! I can only eat extremely limited foods and do only protein shakes every few days. I see a specialist in a few weeks. It’s a huge bummer.

    Opioid Malabsorption

Part of me understands both sides. I’m technically still seeing a pain doctor for back surgery 10 years ago but stopped narcotics. But I was on various ones for 9 years. On the other hand, my sister got fentanyl when she probably should not have and added heroin once they took her from 75 to 50 mcg and ended up dying of an OD in 2015. I also know fentanyl patches seem to be prescribed inappropriately for some and it’s helping to fuel the opioid epidemic, which labels more of us as drug abusers. That being said, doctors need to err on the side of the person not being an addict. Some people abuse but that shouldn’t color pain patients as addicts. There’s a huge difference between addiction and dependence, which is a natural course for these drugs to take. My pain doctor didn’t drug test me, but as long as people pass drug tests and, if the doctor requires it, a correct check of current supply, doctors should support and advocate for their patients. I’m sorry to those of you who legitimately need these medications and are having difficulty. I hate that the government seems to favor “protecting” addicts over patients who arent addicts and need the drugs.

Requirements for Blue Shield of California

Good luck to you! I’m down a bunch since surgery and developed gastroparesis, a super rare complication, but don’t regret a thing. Good luck in January! I’ll be scheduling a hernia repair. Surgery is the best decision you could make!!

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I’m on the cape right now where it’s like 7 degrees with wind chill. Normally I’d be cold but I’m in the house with the heater and I’m freezing!! Since I’m normally in Los Angeles it is fantastic but definitely not right now!!
  22. When mine first appear they can get itchy. I don’t know why but I do think it’s pretty normal. I think there’s laser therapy for stretch marks but I don’t even know how effective it is.
  23. KateBruin

    calorie intake

I was probably getting around 700. My protein shakes are 180 calories (I think) and 30 g protein so to get 100 g protein I probably had 3 shakes plus whatever additional liquids. I’m a little over 3 months and I eat between 600-1700 calories a day. Some days I do two HIIT/crossfit workouts instead of just one so I need the extra calories. On those days I’m a little less strict about logging my macros. Sometimes it’s difficult to get enough fluids and enough food since I can’t eat and drink at the same time but I drink shakes if necessary.
  24. From the research I’ve done, the weight gain creates the stretch marks but losing weight causes them to be visible. The more I lose, the more I “get”. I have them from inner thigh almost to my knees.

Not these specifically but I’ve tried one of their other products. SO GOOD. I think it was some sort of honey or teriyaki hotdog type thing.
