    Utah wls peeps

I'm in Centerville and will be going to Mexico for surgery by the end of the year. Just saving up money now that I realize that is an option.
  2. Great post!! I try to remind myself that yesterday is in the past and what I do today is what's going to get me to tomorrow. Your story will inspire so many. It's so important to address those issues that got us to our highest weight. Some of us added more weight to hide and as it comes of we are now being seen and it's terribly uncomfortable.

    361 Days Later: My Story

I loved reading your story from start to finish. I see your wisdom in response to other posts and always take mental notes as they make perfect sense to me. I have not had surgery yet as I'm still saving up for self pay. Thank you for always encouraging us to get the mental health needed for this journey to make it a lifelong success. Xoxo

3 months post op and gained 3lbs

That can be frustrating but take before and after pictures to see the changes your body is making. Lots of people post that during the time they stall they see the most changes to the way their clothes are fitting them.

Fantastic job!! You look great and that party looked fun.
  6. With the videos I've watched on the sleeve I've seen them do a overstitch. Is that not standard on all sleeves or is this something different?

It caused depression when I stopped taking mine.

What do you wish you would have known before?

Great question and answers. I didn't think about the extra air and thickness of blending.

Once you fill out the questionnaire and get approved they should send you a calendar with open surgery dates.

    Mexican Doctor needed

One friend went by herself and did fine. I have read so many stories of people going alone and end up spending time with others having surgery the same day that they never felt alone. My husband wants to go but I explained that it would be less expensive if I went alone (plane tickets, cost of food etc). I really didn't want to be worried about him being bored and knew that him going with me would cause me more stress than me going alone and only having to worry about me.

    Mexican Doctor needed

I'll be going to Mexico as soon as I have money saved. I had close friends go through the weight loss agents. Both with very amazing results. Searching for that group on this website and YouTube you may get scared away. Another person I personally know went through ALM paid $2500 more and did not have as great of experience or results. You will see lots of great posts about BariatricPal Team MX and Dr Illian the price is reasonable and great reviews. If you search YouTube you will see quite a few videos with Dr Ortiz all happy patients. Those are the three I am considering because they pick you up from San Diego airport and drive you over the border. Personally I am having a hard time between Weightloss agents who my two friends went to or Dr Illian because he only does a few surgeries a day.

So afraid I am going to screw this up.

Can you find a new hobby to take your mind off eating? I'm afraid I'll be the same way and am trying to find something new to take my mind off of it. Some people exercise or take up a class at night when cravings get bad. I would love to hear what works for you.
  14. Did anyone get their gall bladder removed at time of WLS in Mexico? I'll be self pay and have been considering getting both done at the same time. Any complications?

    Gallbladder removal in Mexico

My primary care physician is on board with me getting mine out at the time of the sleeve in Mexico. The cost is $1000 more with some Mexico Dr's vs having to pay my $4000 deductible in the US if it becomes a problem after losing weight. I was interested to see if anyone did it and if they wish they didn't. I'm on the fence since I haven't had any gall bladder attacks myself but the rest of my family has had issues. I have heard that it can become a issue after rapid weight loss.

How to decide on best surgery

How did you decide on which surgery to have? The VSG seems to be the most popular and pushed surgery through my research. I'm 49 BMI and can't seem to loose weight on any diet or exercise program since my hysterectomy 5 years ago. I am concerned that the sleeve will not be enough and know that I could convert to DS later but I don't want to waste anymore time trying something that may not work. I know this is a conversation best with my doctor but I don't want to be pushed into a sleeve if it's not going to be effective. I'll be self pay in Mexico.

Don't be the Chicken & Cheetos Lady

Thank you for sharing this. I've been looking to treat the underlying issues of my food addiction. I feel I have fit in all four categories at some point in my life. Mainly it's number one. I look forward to your free seminar and have subscribed to your YouTube channel

How to decide on best surgery

Great responses and things to think about. Thank you everyone. I'm on the fence of doing sleeve 1st because they cut out more of your stomach then convert to DS if needed. DS doesn't take as much out and I need the help of feeling full faster and hope to use this as a tool to fill up on good foods so I won't have room for the bad. Anyone else shake their head when they see the stories of going for ice cream after surgery? Maybe it's sugar free and they don't mention that part. I'm afraid once I taste it after it will trigger the need for other sugar foods.

How to decide on best surgery

My insurance does not cover WLS at all but we do have several local hospitals that do offer all types procedures. My primary care physician was excited about the Sleeve when I brought it up. He has several patients that have gone to Mexico and has agreed to my care before and after surgery. I've had my bouts with heartburn but it's not as often as it once was. I have no issues taking vitamins and tried one of the special weight loss programs through my chiropractic office that had me taking handfuls of vitamins 3 times a day with protein shakes with very little success.

How to decide on best surgery

No therapy yet. It is something I need to look into. I'm the heaviest out of six kids taking after my mother. The rest of my siblings and father took to alcohol and smoking. I realize I'm just Eating myself to death and do need the mental help to save what's left of my life.

    Oasis Hospital in Tijuana

Where did you get financed? I was considering talking to my bank but thought it would be better to go through WLS websites but not if they charge so much to process.

    Oasis Hospital in Tijuana

I've been looking for financing and was quoted a $1995 processing fee for a $3000 loan with 18% interest through United medical credit so it would be $4995 plus interest to pay back. I felt like giving up on other places if they all charge so much up front.
