    LET'S TACKLE FALL CHALLENGE

    That time of the month…

Did anyone notice if their water retention/weight gain intensified after getting the sleeve as well? I have been sticking to the diet and making sure to keep my fluid intake up...but it seems that I'm retaining water worse than I had before. It may also go hand in hand with the intensified period, bleh.

    Period/menstruation delay

So glad someone brought this up! Did you happen to weigh yourself during that time? I know that weight can waver a few lbs during that time of the month....but this has been crazy. I gained about 4 pounds pretty much over night and this week has been brutal. Trying to tell myself it's not a true gain, but it kind of took the wind out of my sails

    July 2017 Sleevers

Hi guys! I'm Samantha, 29, married and have a little boy who is about to be 2(!). I was sleeved in Mexico July 4th.
  5. I'm pretty new here and I'm scheduled for surgery July 4th (EEK!) with Dr. Illian. I drink alcohol very rarely now...but I am a mother of an almost two year old, so occasionally a glass of wine or a nice cold beer really hits the spot. I was just curious on post-op how your body tolerates that? I know that wine may be a little easier on the belly, as long as it's not "bubbly". Just curious on what others experiences have been. Thank you for the info!
  6. Im at the airport now, sitting at my gate waiting to board. I'm excited and mentally freaking out all at the same time. I have a long day of travel ahead of me and then procedure today as well. Wish me luck!

    Today's The Day

I flew in on the 4th and had my surgery that afternoon. I was discharged the sixth and was taken to the hotel. The doctor came to check on us all that evening at the hotel (your vitals, look at your incisions and listen to your stomach), which was really nice. I flew out on the seventh. It was quite a long haul, San Diego to New Jersey, but I didnt have any issues and wasnt even tempted to eat one of those damn delta cookies

    July Schedule

Everything went really well! I'm so thankful that I got on here and reached out to meet some people that are on the same path as me...it honestly helped make the experience so much easier! The valets were great, the staff at the hospital was wonderful and Dr. Illian for sure lived up to all of the wonderful things that I had read about him. I would recommend this route to anyone who was considering weight loss surgery. The first evening after surgery was a little rough for me...I did throw up and it didn't feel very well. I rang my bell and the nurses were in immediately and helped me feel better. Other than that, things went pretty smoothly. Do lots of walking, even if it is just around your room. I am now 5 days out and feeling pretty good. Energy levels are a lot better than I had anticipated. I was a little nervous about being super tired for quite some time, after reading other peoples experiences, but I may possibly feel pretty good because that's the norm for me (as I have an almost 2 year old little boy) Still on liquids and I'm not having any issues in getting my recommended ounces in. I just keep sipping away, rather than chugging. As long as I keep my drinks smaller than I used to, I seem to be able to take one then relatively shortly after have another. My incisions are a little tender, but that is really to be expected. I haven't had to take any pain medication since I left the hospital. I will say that this whole experience is as much, if not even more, of a mental/emotional thing rather than physical. You have to be in the right mindset and emotionally ready for this.

  10. I just put down my deposit for July 4th! I will be going alone, is there anyone else that will be there at the same time? Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

    July 4th!

I'm glad you reached out! And honestly so glad that I am finally deciding to do something for myself. I am the type of person that will make myself miserable to make others happy...this really is one of the first big things where I was like "I'm doing this for me" If you want to send me a private message on here, we could be fb friends and use fb messenger to talk back and forth =)
  12. Thank you! Today has been a little tough for me. I'm just feeling bleh, like I'm stuck in a funk. I'm assuming it's just a mix of hormones, nerves and lack of food =/

I'm glad that I'm not the only one is who going through this! I didn't ask the why behind his reasoning because it really wasn't a big deal to me (*TMI* my libido has been NIL since I was about 6 months pregnant...and my son is almost 2) and I just assumed it was a common practice for these type of procedures.

    July 4th!

Great news! I don't know why I'm worried about transportation from the airport to the hospital, but glad that I will have company I didn't want to make an awkward ride in the van alone lol

    July Schedule

Dr. Illian directed that I stop taking my BC pills 10 days prior to my surgery date. I was just curious if anyone else was asked to do this and if they were given the "why" behind it? A combination of my time of the month quickly approaching and the liquid pre-op diet has got me a little emotional lately.

    July 4th!

What time are you supposed to land in San Diego?

    July

I'm flying in the day of surgery and will be leaving NJ at like 5am. I am set to arrive in CA at around 11AM (w/ the time change taken into consideration) and having surgery the same day. I'm a little nervous that I am not supposed to have any fluid after midnight before surgery... That's going to be quite the trip w/o a drink of water or anything. Anyone heard feedback from other people that have flown in the day of?

    July Schedule

    You're the best, thank you!
  21. Sorry, I guess I misread and thought you were scheduled the same day as me. At least I will be a couple of days ahead of you and will be there for support and also to let you know how things went (hopefully how easy they went) and help put your nerves at ease a little! Is anyone else flying in on the 4th?
  22. Honestly, Day 1 wasn't bad. Evening I did get a little hungry...but I made myself stay busy with my little one and trying to get stuff done around the house. I did weigh myself today and I'm down 5lbs since yesterday (I know it's probably just all water weight), but still made me feel a little better this morning. Today is also my birthday, so I'm going to indulge and have a glass of wine tonight.
  23. Agreed! I know it's a silly thing (considering everything else that will be happening that day) to be nervous about the ride from the airport to the hospital....but SO happy that I won't be alone.
  24. Hey ladies! Glad to hear everyone seems to be doing well. Today is Day 1 of my liquid pre-op diet. So far, so good! I'm guessing that this evening will be a little more difficult when I'm at home. I did weigh myself this morning....geeze. Seeing that # for sure solidified my decision on going forward with this and eliminating any second guessing that I've been doing in my head. I'm so ready for the next chapter!
  25. I'm coming in around that time Too! So happy I won't be going from the airport to the hospital alone!
