    4 days post op

I know how you feel being so nervous...! I am too, especially since I am 67 yo. My surgery date is set for July 5 to have my Lapband removed and a revision to gastric bypass. I've had the Lapband almost 6 years and it has caused a lot of problems and has to come out. I don't want to regain the weight, so...
  2. Same here. My Lapband has been, and still is, a nightmare, until my revision on July 5th. I've never been able to eat the 1 cup unless it was a slider. I would get deathly I'll on most solid foods after chewing well, small bites, right foods, etc. Finally, I had a test with my gastro and my stomach was inflamed, opening from pouch to stomach closed, esophagitis, gastritis, ulcers, and a slipped band (probably from throwing up for the last 6 years! I hate this thing! Oh, and I only lost 30 lbs. Revising to RNY so I don't gain it back. I'm very nervous about having this done, because of my age, but I really don't have a choice at this point.

Why did you pick this surgery?

When did you have your revision to rny? I hope you are feeling much better. Mine is scheduled for July 5. I'm very nervous about the surgery and what to expect post op pain, and if eating will be easier, and my age. It's not a choice anymore it's a necessity - inflammation, band slip, closed opening to stomach, esophagitis, and gastritis. Surgeon took out all of the fill until surgery and that helped.

Why did you pick this surgery?

I got "the call" this morning that my Lapband revision to RNY is scheduled for July 5th. My surgeon strongly suggested the RNY over the Sleeve because the Sleeve would make it worse. Also, at my age, he said the risk is less with the RNY. I have had sever complications with this band. I've had it since Jan., 2011. I can't take it anymore and want it out! The surgeon said that 95% of patients with Lapband a taken out gain all of their weight back. I suffered getting off what I did with this thing and don't want to gain it back, thus, the RNY. My starting weight with Lapband was 203, now 170.
  5. First of all best of luck on your revision surgery! You are absolutely doing the right getting rid of the band. It will only get worse with time. I am having my lapband converted to RNY in July also. after 6.5 years I couldn't stand the pain and had to eat a "bunch" of Tums to only sometimes ease the horrid pain that would last for hours. This happened nearly every time I ate. I am also scared and very nervous going through this as an "older" woman. An EGD showed inflammation that nearly closed the opening from pouch to stomach, gastritis and esophagitis. The UGI showed the barium not going through well, a band slip and a flipped port! Oh, and I've had the night coughing for years since the band. I HATE this thing! My Dr. Said that 95% of band patients that have had them removed with no revision gained 100%* of their weight back. This was a non-starter for me. I originally asked for a sleeve but the gastric reflux that I developed after the band would get worse so the Dr. recommended RNY. I am on Medicare. The Dr.'s insurance girl said they would pay because it has made me so sick I must have it removed and I guess they've paid before in these instances. If they don't, they don't. I can't live like this anymore.

    Bandster updates

Same here. I got my band in January 2011. I've had terrible complications for several years and will hopefully be having a revision to RNY in July 2017. I do not recommend lapband to anyone! I'm nervous about the RNY because I am "older" but it has to be done. My BMI is 29.5 now but I still need the revision because of my health problems cannot afford to gain all of my weight back. Best of luck on your surgery. It's got to be more effective and safer than the band.
