  1. In order to give the best advice, I would have to know a bit more about your journey. Is the weight loss in your profile correct at 30 pounds? What do you actually eat in a day, and is that consistent? You can hit your protein, and water requirements by eating burgers and drinking water every few hours, so I would need to know more. I will say that a 30 pound weight loss in 9 months is rather slow if that is the case. You should probably get with your nutritionist to make sure that your eating plan is on point. If it is, then I would follow up with your doctor. There can be a lot at play here. You can be eating too many calories per sitting, and not moving enough to burn off the excess. You could be eating the wrong types of foods. Some spike blood sugar, and some do not. You could have underlying health issues that haven't yet been determined, like a thyroid issue, for example. You could have a gluten sensitivity, but be eating lots of bread. There might even be a combination of these things and others not mentioned. So, I would hit up the nutritionist first, and if find that you are doing everything right and still not seeing progress...I would definitely follow up with my doctor for consultation and additional testing. To the other poster, keep doing what you are doing. Stalls are going to happen no matter what you do. Your body is adjusting to these changes that you have made in your diet and/or exercise regimen. You will no doubt continue to lose inches during this time so don't fret. You will continue your descent in no time. Good luck!
  2. Not only that, but no many people are allowed meat at 3 days post-op either. I couldn't have it until 4 weeks post-op. I would suggest taking it slowly...as slowly as you can. I would not eat ground turkey or chicken on day 3. It took me 2 days just to be able to knock out a few ounces of broth. I didn't even want the jello that they were giving me with every meal. That full sensation is like nothing you've ever felt before. Your stomach now feels as though it is underneath your sternum bone. It is so weird. Anyway, lots of people don't do well with meat in any form for a little while, and I think that the yogurt, cottage cheese, protein shakes, and broths are going to feel better to you going down. I'm sorry, but I just can't get over the quick progression from water, ice chips and broth one day, and tuna, ground chicken and turkey the next. Please verify that, and whatever you do, eat super slowly and chew, chew, chew. Good luck!

    Silly Anesthesia Question

That anesthesia works very fast. Within a few minutes of receiving it, I was out. Not rambling on, but out. I didn't receive it until I was in the OR. If that is the case for you, your friend won't be allowed in anyway, so there is nothing to worry about. People respond to the anesthesia differently. Some get sick and nauseous, some are fine. I was lucky enough to be one of the latter. I had an excellent experience. Don't worry though. You will be fine. Think good thoughts. Welcome to the loser's club!

    "Regret" stage

I am sorry that you are going through this. You are not alone in these feelings that you have. The important thing to remember is that surgery does not change your mind. I would suggest that surgery can bring up a whole new mess of feelings that you actually may not have even experienced before. It is important to speak to a therapist, or at least someone in your circle whom you trust will support you. Head hunger is real, but that doesn't mean that you have to succumb to your food addiction. I often hear my daughter tell me that she is hungry only to refuse all of the food that I offer her. She would prefer something "good", which is basically junk food or fast food. I tell her, "Well, then you aren't hungry." If you are feeling hunger, whether it be head hunger or real hunger, you are not at all let off of the hook from making good decisions. Grab an apple, make a salad, a turkey roll up. Don't reach for chips, cookies, etc. That is not going to get rid of your hunger. It is just going to make you feel bad. I say this with the understanding that nobody is going to be perfect. The other poster's example of making and sampling cookies with the kids is life. It is bonding. It is memories. You don't have to stop living just because you have had wls. Just make health a priority. Plan ahead. Get active. This takes work, but I promise you will be successful if you adhere to it for the long-term. You can do this. Get with your nutritionist about setting a new plan for you if you need it. Don't kill yourself over stumbling, but get back to basics immediately. Success means doing the right things 80-90% of the time. If you have a cookie or a burger or fries every 9 or 10 days, but are on point every day in between, you are going to be golden. Also, try to switch it up a bit. Make good healthy substitutions as much as possible. Right now, you can't eat much. A few bites of a burger may just be 1-200 calories. Pretty soon, you are going to be able to eat a whole burger. That 6-700 calories is going to hurt. By switching to a turkey burger, removing the mayo and ketchup, and having it open face with no top bun, you can cut the calories, fat and carbs dramatically. Develop good habits now, and put in the foundation that is going to help you in the future. I wish you the best of luck.
  5. I am also 4 months post op as of the 7th. Although my weight loss has slowed dramatically, I am still losing pounds here and there. I am also still losing inches. I will lose a pound a week for 2-3 weeks, then have a 3 or 4 pound loss the next week. I don't even worry about it. I just keep on doing the damn thing. I do have a cheat meal every week or so. I log everything, and hold myself accountable though. My cheat meals are normally modified to make them healthier as well. I will have a slice or two of veggie pizza on cauliflower crust, a chicken fajita taco salad with no shell or dressing, or a half turkey cheeseburger "protein style" with as much veggies as I can get. I am only 14 pounds from my goal, and I'm not letting junk keep me from reaching it in the next 2 months. Don't worry about stalls. They are going to happen. You don't need resets either. Just go back to what you were doing in the first place. No junk food snacking, and logging and weighing everything. If you stopped being active, well get moving. Everyone should be active anyway. That heart needs exercise.

    Feel like a liar

I feel the same. Nobody's business what I do. I also don't feel that it is lying to tell people that I eat less, eat better and move more. That is essentially what I do. To your question about people being mean, a manager at my job had GB a few years back. She stopped losing weight, and had re-gain. She seems to be the running joke of the company as everyone keeps making comments about it every time she puts something in her mouth. There is no way they are going to know my business.
  7. I am in San Antonio as well. It is good to know that there is a good surgeon here. I will keep this info, just in case I need it. Thanks!

Ya! First small goal has been met!

Good Job and keep up the good work!
  9. That is a good amount of weight in 8 weeks! You will most probably hit your doctor's goal for you, but if you don't, that is okay. Just stick to your plan. You'll be fine.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I am cold all of the time as well. My fingertips feel as though I have them on ice most of the time. My doctor said that I have an Iron deficiency, and that is probably what is causing it. I am on an iron supplement, so we will see if that helps. Other than that, I am doing very well. I have had several small stalls so far followed by additional weight loss so that's good. I am proud to say that I am officially overweight instead of obese! That sounds terrible, I know. I haven't been overweight (by bmi standards) in about 25 years, so I am excited. I am a muscular guy, and don't think that I have that much left to lose. I would have to lose 35 more to get into the normal category. That isn't going to happen, but I hope that I can at least meet my goal, which is 14 pounds away. It will be hard enough to get there, I'm sure.

HOLIDAY CHALLENGE TIME!! LET'S DO THIS!

    12/13/2017 CW: 234.3
  12. Start a program of drinking soups/broths/protein shakes/snacks every two-three hours. This way you will not be hungry. It is tedious, but does work. I did 11 oz. Premier Protein shakes for all 3 meals (480 cals), Lite Progresso Soups (creamed or blended) for 2 snacks (400 cals), and Sugar Free Popsicles/jellos for 2 snacks (20-30 cals). I stayed under 1,000 calories per day. I mixed this up, and sometimes replaced a progresso soup with a green smoothie. I did cardio a few days per week, and dropped 25 pounds during my 2 week pre-op diet. I was on liquids for 4 weeks (3 weeks full/1 week clear). It was hard, but it was also all mental as I was never hungry. I really just wanted to crunch down on something. The sugar free popsicles helped...So did ice...Lots of Sonic Ice. Anyway, Good Luck!

    Am I eating too much?

OP, I don't think that you are eating too much. I eat quite a bit more than you do. I think all of my meals are comparable to your dinner, and I have 3 healthy snacks daily as well. I stay between 1100-1200 calories now. I don't really want to go lower than that, and want to gradually get up to 1500 per day. Good luck to you.

    Overate ate at 7 days!

One of these days, we are going to have to create a thread with the most entertaining arguments. That way we can binge on them while in jury duty or in an airport with a layover, etc. We can just add the title so that it is searchable. I ought to be ashamed of loving to read these things. I can't help it though. I grew up watching Jerry Springer, Ricky Lake and Maury. Good stuff!
  15. I agree with Positive Outlook. I would scale back on the fish and other meats for a week or two, and slowly re-introduce them back one by one. I wasn't allowed to eat eggs or flaky fish until after week four. I actually had an eight stage eating plan. I never felt sick or nauseous on the plan. Welcome to the loser's club!

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

The amount of weight that you lose, your age and genes, and how you carry the weight in the first place are the major drivers of whether or not you are going to have excess skin. You can lose weight super slow, and still have tons of extra skin. You can lose it quickly, and have virtually no excess skin. I wouldn't let that be the determinant of which surgery I have. You should speak to your doctor about his/her preference based upon your bmi, health history, whether you already have gerd or acid reflux, etc. Congratulations, and good luck on your journey!

    Concerned For My Wife

Queenb72, unfortunately, all you can do is talk to her. Express your emotions, but try to be understanding about what she may be going through. This is really hard, and surgery doesn't help everyone. You must be open to changing your thought processes when it comes to food...Not very easily done. I wish you the best of luck in getting your wife the help she needs and in your own personal journey.

    Bacón!

I would ask your doc, but I ate some crispy bacon at eight weeks out with no problems. I probably eat a slice or two every two or three weeks on a Saturday or Sunday. I don’t care too much for turkey bacon, so I would rather have the real thing and cut corners somewhere else.

    Gaining Weight!!!!!

You are fine. It is probably just water weight. It would be really hard to gain four pounds of fat on a 600-1000 calorie diet. Keep doing what you are doing. I gain a few pounds every week starting on Monday when I lift weights. My last lift day is Thursday, and I normally lose those pounds and then some by Saturday. I am used to it, so I don't worry.
  20. You will find that it is very hard to get enough protein as a vegan. I'm sure it can be done, but it is much easier as a vegetarian as you might know. I was a vegetarian for 3 years, and found it easy to get my protein in, but I ate 5-7 cups of food per sitting then. I think I could do it now on a cup of food as long as I supplement with eggs, mock meats, and protein shakes. I will make it back there soon enough. I loved the benefits of being a vegetarian. I recovered super fast from workouts, and my nagging shoulder injury healed within a few months of switching over. There are many threads here devoted to vegetarians/vegans. Do a search.

    Protein?

The only thing that stands out to me is the chicken/fish at barely one week out. Seems really soon for that. I always tell people to follow their doctors' plans, but maybe you can hold off on that until at least your day 16-30. It might be too much too soon for your new stomach to handle. The only macro that I would be worried about is protein. If you get 80 grams per day, you should be fine with your plan. You will be eating plenty fruit, veggies and grains, so everything else will be taken care of. Also, water, water, water through every stage. Your body needs it, and you don't want to get dehydrated early on.

    Sit ups

I was cleared for that at 6 weeks, but didn't start until 8 weeks. My scars, especially the big one, was still a bit tender, so I was afraid.
  24. I usually wait 30 minutes, but if I eat something dense, I wait for an hour or so.
  25. Congratulations! You're doing great!
