Hi SassyPants, (I love your name) I hope that everythiong works out for you. I really don't think that we were the only one that had these experience. Just be careful. I am sorry that I am a DEBBIE DOWNER but I do care what happens to others. I still need some skin stuff and I know of people that have went to Mexico for their skin removals, but....even tho it would be cheaper I wouldn't go there. I just ask my hubby if he would go to Mexico even with the things that we both went thru. he said he still might. But it wouldn't be Juarez Mexico. He would go to Tijuana. We have heard good things about them. Personally I might notice I said might go thru Tijuana. It will be how much I want it and need it first off. I'm not sure but this site may have Skin removal Dr's. Take care. Hope to see you around sharing your Journey.

Hi, I don't want to rain on your parade. But my hubby had his Sleeve done by him. I WOULD NOT chance it. That Hospital isn't good. They have a hard time with understanding what you are saying. The nurses never washed their hands, only 1 nurse used the santizer, I am not lying they removed my hubby's IV without using gloves. Not once did they use gloves. The sad thing about that is my hubby has HEP B. We paid for a suite and they put us in a crappy room. He started doing surgeries early that morning and did them all day until 10pm that night. The medication that you pay $50.00 for is a joke, it did nothing for pain. If he had been in a lot of pain he would have been in trouble. He was released without discharge papers at all. When he was supposed to get the RNY but it ended up being the SLEEVE. When I ask for paperwork for that surgery they told me that RNY and Sleeve are the same. Which they are NOT. We had to bring our own washclothes from home. When I tried to explain that he was sick to his stomach they had no idea what I was talking about. We went thru the site called "BELITE WEIGHT LOSS" they were supposed to have everything taken care of. NOT They want their money right away. Which was not a probem at all. We paid for the RNY and when he didn't get that surgery there was a refund coming but they didn't give the amount that they should it was less. Them stating that his surgery was so complicating was the reason. At that time we just wanted it to be over and get home!! Just beware. You can also ask one of the adminstrator here on this site what they have heard about them. I hope everything goes ok.

I had surgery with Dr. Rod on Feb. 4, 2012 in Juarez at Star Medica. I went through BeLite and my coordinator was Deborah. I had a great experience. All of my needs were taken care of and Dr. Rod was awesome. My partner traveled with me and we felt completely safe.
We were met at the airport and taken across the border to the hospital where I completed my pre-surgery testing. After, we walked next door to have my last meal at a Mexican Restaurant.
I am now 9 months out and down 100 lbs with zero complications. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I would recommend Dr. Rod to everyone.

Dr. Rod is a great choice! His credentials are outstanding and a lot of his certification and post doctoral education was in the states!
Good luck with your surgery tomorrow!! Take one step at a time, and you will be fine.

I had my surgery in Juarez on January 9, 2015 by DR. JOSE RODRIGUEZ-VILLARREAL AND DR. ELMO ARAMBURO. They were amazing and the hospital staff were great. I had no problems and as of today I am down 68 pounds. I would go back to Mexico without hesitation.

Just wanted to update on this topic as I know Gastric Plication is one of the cheaper and less used options for Weight Loss Surgery.
I am now two years post op and have remained at my goal weight since reaching it at almost one year post op.
My relationship with food has completely changed. I still do the things that helped me reach my goal weight such as keeping a food log, weighing my food and sticking to a high protein/low carb diet.
I know a lot of people have not had the same experience as I have had with this surgery. I do not know why my experience is different than most others. I still meal plan, and carefully watch what I eat 80% of the time.
As time has gone on, I am able to eat more as my surgeon had cautioned that I would. I want to mention that I have done a lot of work in regards to understanding why I became so obese in the first place. Surgery will not be a fix to the emotional aspect of obesity and if you are not putting in the work to understand yourself better, no amount of surgery will keep the weight off. I am sure we all know someone who has had WLS and has gained weight back. As I was self funded for my surgery, I wanted to make sure it would provide me with long lasting results. I had to dig deep within myself and really be truthful. I used food as comfort, as entertainment, as a way to soothe myself. I ate out of boredom, out of sorrow, out of happiness. These were behaviors that I had to unlearn. I also was eating more processed food than should be allowed. I now cook more often than I don't, so I have better control of what I am eating. I no longer drink soda or alcohol. Yes, doing those things are hard, but being fat and unhappy was harder. Choose your hard and get real with yourself. This journey should be about more than vanity. It should be about longevity and health. When times get rough and you feel like giving up, you will need a reason that is strong enough to keep you going. My family and being healthy to participate in life like I want to are what keep me going.
With that being said, my life is completely different, healthier and more fulfilling than it was two years ago.
I do not regret my Gastric Plication surgery at all. It has given me everything that I knew I deserved. I have worked hard to lose the weight and have had to strengthen my discipline and willpower. I put in the work everyday to keep the weight off and will have to everyday for the rest of my life.
Surgery alone will not keep you thin. I cannot stress this enough.
I went from 240 pounds (size 16) and have maintained a weight of 160 pounds (size 8) for over a year.
