  1. welcome & good luck!
  2. hey y'all! I just realized I posted in wrong forum earlier. Sorry, didn't mean to be a butt-inski. It's only been a short time yet. Don't worry so much it sounds like you're pretty much on track. Good luck to all of you.
  3. I was banded 1/25/06 and lost about 70 lbs the 1st year, then 30 the next, 5 this year. Am at goal & doing great!
  4. Sounds like you have some swelling and irritation. Could possibly be a slip. Go to liquids only & call you doc in the morning. If you can't keep any liquid down at all go to the ER as you can dehydrate.
  5. I chose fifties but was actually banded a few days before turned 50. Was my big 5-0 present to myself. Best present ever!
  6. I'm a tech for AT&T, been there 30 years now. Started when I was an infant of course.
  7. I would suggest more protein. And yogurt is fine but you may want to watch the sugars, just sweeten with the fruits you are already using. You can also try things that are normally lumpy, like cottage cheese, if you put in a blender a bit. And jello is OK too.
  8. I agree, my port area was the last to heal. Every time I moved or coughed it pull on the stitches I think. So unless it looks infected it's normal to be sore for a few weeks. Mine took about 6-7 weeks before I didn't really feel it anymore.
  9. yes please have doctor check. But don't worry too much, I thought I had lumps too till my husband pointed out to me that the lumps were identical on both sides and they turned out to be bones which I hadn't felt in decades.
  10. best thing is to read around a bit and ask questions. Remember most people post more when they have problems than when all is going well so keep that in mind when hear about troubles or concerns. There are many more "happies" than regrets since I've been banded.
  11. welcome! we all hope you the best.
  12. I say do more research, sounds very interesting to me. I think it would probably decrease rather than increase stress hormone levels. Ask more questions & let us know!
  13. The only problem foods I have run across (for me, everyone's different) is flour tortillas (corn is fine), white bread and baked chicken. And fizzy sodas.
  14. Wow, sounds uncomfortable to say the least. Only been a couple days since surgery, probably just real sore, real inflamed, real swollen all inside where the band is. Call your doctor!
  15. Welcome & congratulations. You are SO normal! And that's great because you don't want to have any surgery just on a whim. It's good to be a little anxious. But it is well worth it. Let me say it again "This is the best thing I ever did for myself & I LOVE MY BAND!". I was back to work (desk job) in 5 days and I was 50 at the time. You youngsters heal faster. Never had a bit of trouble other than I had a rash from the tape he used over the incisions, no spitups, nothing. Can't hardly even see the scars a year later.
  16. Welcome! We are all excited for you as well. Read up on some posts to get a feel for what you can expect. Happy losing!
  17. I agree, I believe it helps shrink the liver & proves you can follow important instructions. I was on a 1 week total liquid non-fat diet. It was hard for a couple of days but I got through it ok. I just kept telling myself it's only a week & it's a brand-new start of my new life. It must have worked! Good luck!
  18. I'm 5'9 and started as a 22/24 am now down to 16's. (I had to return some size 16 shorts the other day & the 14's fit!) Would like to get down to at least 12.
  19. I have 1 time. Surgery a little over a year ago.
  20. Before surgery I told just my close family. I made sure they knew the difference between LapBand & bypass. They were extremely supportive once they understood. Was not sure whether I wanted others to know or not. I think I was waiting to see if it was really gonna work for me. It did! Now I tell everyone. Well, anyone that asks. Then I can explain that I still have to eat right but it's such a great tool. I'm normally a very shy person when it comes to strangers, but boy have I changed!
  21. Wow, DonnaB, so sorry to hear about your bad experience with Dr.Jay. That sounds awful. You are right that you must listen to your own body & do what you know it's telling you. Hope you are feeling better now. I don't blame you a bit if you insist on her next time. For the record, the doctor did my 1st 2 fills & I had no pain or discomfort at all, my 3rd was done by Arlene & she was much more agressive on the fill amount (I didn't ask how many cc's, just going by feel & restriction) & she had to stick me twice & I did have some slight pain. But she is a doll isn't she? Very sweet. I wouldn't hesitate in having either one do my next fill. But again, Donna I really do hope you feel better. And I'll be watching him carefully (no more rose-colored glasses) next time I see Dr. Jay. Best wishes.
  22. I've lost 50 lbs, 50 more to go & at 50 I look younger than ever. (50 seems to be a theme here.) May get some wrinkles & sags after more is lost but hey, I can handle it. I feel great & that matters most. Be good to yourselves!
  23. Woo-hoo!!! Way to go!
  24. I was allergic to the adhesive they put on incisions. Had big red itchy painful whelps for about 4 weeks. I still have slight red scars all around the incision sars! What fun!
