I didn't have a rash on my body, but I did find that I was allergic to the wrist band the clinic used. I had it on for about two hours when DH said he noticed it, but of course, he didn't say anything to me. Later that evening at home, my hand itched, and I noticed I still had the band on. My entire hand was in hives! :omg: Yuk! Took days for it to settle down.

I was allergic to the adhesive they put on incisions. Had big red itchy painful whelps for about 4 weeks. I still have slight red scars all around the incision sars! What fun!

They always ask if you have allergies before surgery - adhesives, latex, etc. Sometimes you just don't know until it's over!:faint:

thanks i hadn't even thought about allergic reactions to the tape but that makes sense what did you do to stop the itching?

I started breaking out in hives int he hospital they stopped my antibiotic and changed the pain meds gave me a shot of benadryl and everything was fine...until I got home. The day after I got home I was full of rashes on an old insision the new one and then on my thigh.

Take benadryl NOW largest dose and don't stop for a few days. I had to go on predisone which really stunk. My Dr wants me to go to an allergist to see what I'm allergic to. It was not the glue because the small insisions had nothing on them.

Good luck I know this is terrible. Take that Benadryl! Call the doctor tomorrow if you still have it and go in to the office to see him.

Depending on your symptoms, Benedryl would probably be good. Although my hand was pretty red, I just used hydrocortisone cream on them. It was only a few days and other than a little itchy, not a big deal.

I've taken benadryl and cortizone cream but nothing seems to help. I am going to make an appt with the dermatologist tomorrow and my surgeon to change pain meds... thanks everyone.

Ask you surgeon what they used for antibotics. I had a bad allergic reaction on my face of itchy red bumps that still re-occurs after almost 10 months post-op. They first presented 3 days after surgery and I get them now under heat and high stress - same problems. They used the following antibotics on me: Gentamycin and Vancomycin. I'm highly allergic to penicillin and the cyclin antibotics with similar rashes on different parts of my body. They advised me to go to the Dermatologist and see what they can do for me. No amount of Benadryl or topical ointments have been able to help me. I hope you find something that works really well for you!!! Best of luck!!!

Thanks Texas and Rose.... I went on the steroids and they seemed to help... .but I will have some scars just from these darn blisters- or it will take a while to get rid of them. The doc has no idea what i was allergic to during the surgery, but he told me to make sure it is known to the next surgern when I need another operation.

Thanks for you support and stories! :D

I had a horrible rash on my stomach and arms starting two weeks after my surgery. I was starting to think that I was allergic reaction to the band. the surgeon assured me it was not. Turns out i was having a reaction to a new medication I was taking (Progesterone for premenopausal hormone imbalance). It darned near drove me crazy!! Try to rule out any medicines you are taking or new food or detergent, etc. It's a real nightmare. Hope you find something that helps!!

A lot of people can have an allergic reaction to the anesthetic or pain meds given after the surgery. some benedryl and some calamine lotion with help take care of it.

Hi guys..I actually havent had a lapband but was online searching " itchy red rash after surgery" and it linked me here to your website. I have read what you guys have written and it sounds exactly like what I have been experiencing since day three of my hernia repair surgery. I have had it break out twice now..the first time I went to the ER it was so bad and surprisingly they gave me a pepcid AC tablet. They said it was a histamine blocker and worked faster and better than benedryl.

They sent me home taking 1 clariton (over the counter medicine) and two pepcid AC tabs(aolso over the counter) a day.

Within a few minutes of taking the dose in the ER the I could see the bumps going away.

I stopped taking it this past Tuesday( two weeks post op) and three days later I have it all over my thighs, stomach, chest, and arms again :) I have just restarted the clariton and pepcid. Hope maybe those meds will help someone I TOTALLY know how frustrating this is!

Angel

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
