  1. Jan. 08- 262 June 08 - 219 banded 3/18/08 Let's see how everyone is doing so far........
  2. Here is an update since having band removed. I had RNY surgery in Sept. and my insurance paid for it! SO WOOOOOPPPYYY!!!!!! I have now lost an additional 21 pounds. Since banding in March I have now lost a total of 58 pounds. I love how good I feel now. I wish I would have went straight for the RNY surgery as Lapband for me was not the less risky way to loss weight. I had an easy recovery only about four days of feeling yucky. I was back at the gym in fourteen days and back to work after three weeks. Im loving my life. Paula

    Slipped Band, now what?

Dont lose hope. I was banded in March of 08 lost 40 pounds then band slipped. My band had to be removed in June. Now, Sept 8th I had LAP RNY surgery all approved. Im five days out from surgery and feel fabulous. If I can help in anyway let me know.
  4. My surgery is in five days. Yes, at times I worry about what can happen, but that is when I remind myself of the alternative, staying over weight. Which in itself has great risks. REMEMBER, nothing in life comes without consequences. I think if you really analyze your situation you will find the WLS to be your better bet by far. It is only human to worry, but dont let it get in the way of making life changing decisions. I hope you find comfort in you choice before surgery. Hugs Paula

    LONG: A GOOD Experience!

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I am so glad that all is going well for you. I truly believe that moving right after surgery does help speed up recovery. I am going in for surgery 1 week from your date so its only five days away. I plan on be up and running in no time. Looking forward to be in the flip side of surgery. I hope you continue to recover so quickly. Your positive attitude can only help you. Hugs Paula
  6. I had to have my band taken out after it slipped. I was having a fabulous run with my band and lost nearly fifty pounds since Jan 08 most of it due to banding 3/18. I miss having my band and still need to lose so much weight I dont think I can do it again. I talk with my Doctor tomorrow and find out what is in store for my future: rebanding or bypass. I just want to get it done before summer is over because I have this time off and I dont want to regain my weight. Have any of you been rebanded as of yet or have a date? Hugs Paula

    Debanded and depressed

So sorry for your loss of the band. I can say that I definitely understand as i too lost my band during a surgery where my doctor tried to reposition my band. I was beyond sad when I found out it had to be removed. I knew going in that there was a possibility of removal but had kept my positive outlook and neglected to consider it may happen. Anyway, I have struggled too with my weight after removal. Fortunately, I am having a revision done in Sept. where I will be doing RNY surgery so that I can continue to loss weight and get healthy. Keeping weight of permanently has always been a problem for me so I felt it necessary to do something that would keep it off for good. Afer all the changes I made having the band, I think I can easily master what is needed for gastric success. I would ask your doctor about a revision as some insurances cover it. Hugs Paula
  8. I had my band removed June 23, 2008 after it slipped. I had a great run with my band and lost nearly fifty pounds in three months, well 11 of that came of before surgery from working out at gym. Now, I am scheduled for RNY surgery on Sept. 4th and look forward to becoming a BIG LOSER. I have struggled with weight loss since my band was removed, but have not gained any. I have continued a good diet and regular exercise. Approval was sent to me on Monday, Aug. 11, and now I can stop worrying and focus on the important stuff. Hugs Paula
  9. I was banded 3/18/08 and was having a very successful run. I lost almost 50 pounds since January 08 and many of them were due to band. I also work out three day or more at the gym regularly. The problem was last Wednesday while eating I felt like something got stuck and I waited until Friday to call the dr because I thought it would move through and all would be well. It didnt and I ended up in the emergency room Friday afternoon because my doctor was out of town all this week. When I got there they never took out any fluid, they just admitted me and gave me pain meds. Saturday in the Am hours whatever it was passed and I felt great but they wanted to do a Barium test on me and the test showed that the Barium was not passing through my stomach. It also showed that my band had slipped a small amount. My doctor was not going to back until Monday 6/23/08 so they scheduled me for surgery then. When I talked to my doctor he said that he would try to fix my band and the x rays looked good. They came in Saturday evening and took out 4cc in my band and the Barium passed then. On Monday when i woke up from surgery i found out they took my band. I cannot tell you how SAD i was to hear this. I cried in the recovery room. My doctor never came to talk to me and told my husband that there was too much swelling to adjust the band and that he was afraid that he would tear my stomach. I just wonder why he didnt wait to see if the swelling wouldnt have went down on its own over the next few weeks since the Barium was able to get through after the unfill. I dont know what to do know. I had my first fill only three weeks ago and he put in 2cc which is alot for the first fill or any fill for that matter. I was feeling good restriction or so I thought was good restriction but I think what I was really feeling was my stomach swelling. I have never had such success before my band And I am so scared now without it. Everyone says I will be just fine but no one knows how hard I have tried. All I can do is cry........ Tears are falling, Paula

    Elliptical Use After Surgery

I waited eleven days before getting back on elliptical trainer after surgery. Just listen to your body when your working out and take it easy, start slow.

    Revisions? Anyone?

I am in the waiting game right now for having RNY surgery because my band was taken out June 23 after it slipped. I go in on Wed. July 30 to get surgery date, then more stress waiting for insurance approval. Dr. doesnt think that should be a problem but I will stress anyway. Hugs Paula

    This Dude is Trippin'

You seem to see it for what it really is insecurity. He is scared to death that you are going to turn heads and then wont want him. Let him know that you would love to go to the gym with him after surgery. It would be beneficial for both of you. I wish my husband love the gym like I do, so if you have someone who will go I say DO IT! And reassure your man you love him for who he is and you looking even better isnt gonna change that at all. Hugs Paula

    I lost my band...

I lost my band after only three months. I too was devastated. I am waiting now to have RNY surgery if all goes well. My doctor will not reband me either. My band actually slipped and had a stitch that had come undone. I am doing all I can to not gain the weight back that I have lost but am finding it very hard. I go to the gym three days a week and that helps but my calorie counting has much to be desired lately. I lost my band June 23. Keep your chin up something will work out for you. Hugs Paula

    What if!

You would run the risk of band slipping. It doesnt take much....

    Band Slippage

My Lapband slipped after three months. Dr. tried to reposition but had to remove it. I cannot tell you how sad I was to have had it removed. I am now waiting to have RNY surgery in Sept. Good Luck to you. I sure hope it can fix itself. Hugs paula

    Restriction getting worse

You may want to go get a little unfill done. It is more important to be able to meet nutritional needs, the weight can come off a little slower. Hugs Paula
  19. I had my first fill and my doctor did 2cc (which is a lot most only do .5cc-1cc) about three weeks after the fill I was eating chicken and felt like it got stuck and after that I kept vomiting. Couldn’t hold anything down so I waited a couple of days thinking it would pass but on Friday it had not so I called my doctor to find that he was out of town the whole week but he made arrangements for me to come into ER where they would admit me. Friday night they gave me pain killers and by Saturday morning I felt great no more pain but when they did a barium test x-ray nothing was going through my band. Finally, one of the surgeons who work under my surgeon came and released the entire fill in my band. The barium then went through but the x-ray should my band had moved slightly. My doctor scheduled me for surgery Monday morning so I stayed in the hospital waiting for him to return. He told me that he thought he could make a slight adjustment during surgery and that would keep my band. Unfortunately, when he was inside he found more swelling then first anticipated and felt moving the band at that point may cause my stomach to tear so he made the decision to take it all out. I cannot tell how BUMMED I was to lose my band. I was having a fabulous run with my band and lost weight very well. Im just so grateful that my doctor wants to do a Gastric bypass now, because I know i cannot do this alone. I will only gain all my weight back without some help. After talking with my surgeon on July 9th he told me that a stick had also came undone around my band. I guess I will never know the exactly why it happened but I believe things happen for reasons so I will move on. I think my situation is a rare one as I have not heard of anyone having this happen. I hope this helps. Hugs Paula

    Looking for a little help/advice...

I had my band taken out June 23 because of slippage. The recovery was so easy. My surgery was on Monday and I was back at the gym by Thursday. I did have a little swelling that lasted about a week and a half. My stomach was sore but moving felt better then laying around for me. It seemed the more I sat around the worse it felt so I kept moving. Way easier recovery. Ps. I am hoping to be rebanded soon. Good Luck, Paula

    We have our own forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just unbanded after only having my band for three months. It seems so unfair. Im depressed, Im worried that I might start gaining my weight back. I lost nearly 50 pounds mostly due to band and some from gym prior to surgery. I cannot pull myself out of this funk I am in. Crying in California Paula
  22. I lost my band on Monday 6/18/08 after only having it for three months 3/18/08. I am heart broken, I was doing fabulous with my band. I had lost nearly 50 pounds since Jan 08 and many of those due to my band. I feel so depressed right now I cannot even explain and everyone keeps telling me I can do it on my own. Well, I have made going to the gym a regular schedule for me but I really relied on my band to help with portion control. TEARS. I wrote down everything I ate along with daily protein, i even wrote down all the exercising i did. Now, where do i go from here? Im so depressed!!! Crying in California Paula
  23. I have been banded since March 08 and have had great success. The problem is on Wednesday I was eating lunch chicken and something didn't feel right. I stopped eating and tried later thats when i started vomiting. On Thursday I stayed on liquids and had a hard time holding them down. I have a constant pain in my left upper chest area. Now it is Friday and I called my doctor to find that he is not there this week so I talked to the advice nurse whom Im still waiting to hear back from. has anyone else experienced anything like this? If so, what did you do?
