Surgery Was on 10/03, down 25.6 lbs. Weight loss slowed this week, but I am losing inches. I feel great. Red meat doesn't sit well with me nor does cheating by trying to sample bad choices, so yep...I stopped that nonsense. I finally got a small hunger feeling this week, but no cravings. I didn't see a difference, but others notice. So, I took a photo today and put it side by side with a before VSG pic and it is insane to see the face behind the extra lbs. How are you all doing? #wecandoit

You look awesome! The change is definately noticable!

  2. I'm a few weeks out and not quite there. My intake has been quite slow. That being said, I have issues with nausea and vomiting which isn't so common at this point.

But your intake seems pretty reasonable to me. Up to 4oz is what my office said for meals and that got you full. And it looks like you didnt have more Protein until a few hours later, which seems to be good timing.

This VSG thing really affects each one of us so diffrently. You may just be one of the lucky people who heal quickly and handle typical intake right away.

I wouldnt be concerned but, if you are, you can always check in with your office and see what they say.

I need mine out but I'm trying to wait until next year due to work. I don't have any stones but I was having pain so the doc gave me a HIDA scan and the results came back abnormal with an Ejection Fraction of 86% (normal per my surgeon is in the 30-60% range). Since I don't have stones my surgeon is comfortable letting me manage the pain and we will be removing the gallbladder after the 1st of the year.

Interesting! I only had ultrasound. Maybe if I ask for a HIDA scan it will give a better indication of how my gallbladder is functioning and if that's really the culprit.

Never heard of a HIDA scan before now. I will have to look into it. Thanks!

I actually had no problems. I didn’t even know I had stones until my pre op testing.

Apparently you can have gallstones without them causing any problems. I've had them for years so I'm not sure if its what's causing the issues but I suppose I will figure that out once its removed

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give an update now that I'm 12 days post op. After feeling defeated I decided that I was going to do everything I can to make this a positive experience. I realized that there are just some foods that I cannot tolerate, but there are also some that I can. If something makes my stomach hurt I immediately put it down and try something else. I was also making the mistake of drinking Water while I ate which is a big no no. It was a hard habit to break. Someone suggested I try to drink some tea in the morning to help loosen and calm my stomach. I have been doing that and it has really helped. I'm hoping it gets better from here. I know I am in a much better place than last week so that has to account for something right?

    Sleeved 10/10/17 • HW 280 (3/1/17) • SW 259 (10/10) • CW 242 (10/21) • GW 180 (TBD)

So happy you are feeling better and figuring out what helps!

  6. Thanks Temkins and Berry78. I have consistantly read about the pain being the most common thing.

I guess I am really trying to see if anyone improved after removing their gallbladder when vomiting (and/or diarrhea) was the only symptom.

I'm feeling pretty bad and can't imagine doing another surgery right now if it won't help.

I had vomiting south mine. It had to come out 3 months after surgery. The pain was the worse tho. Mine had stones and started a blockage.

That's why I'm confused! I did feel some achiness in that area with certain foods prior to my pre op diet but nothing I would describe as pain and nothing since virtually cutting fats out since pre op dieting. But the vomiting is brutal. Since 10 days post op and seems to be getting worse.

    I'm so lost :(

I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago, long before the WLS, due to very restrictive diets. I'm 2.5 weeks out now and I think I start feeling some pains on the left side right under my ribs. It could be related probably to gall, as the post-op diet is quite restrictive and gall doesn't go freely from my liver. But this is just my guess, I'm not a doctor.

Other than that, gallbladder removal sometimes causes a chronic diarrhea, especially if you get some fatty foods. No other issues so far.

I don't have the pain but terrible vomiting. Docs think gallbladder might be the problem (ultrasound shows its full of gallstones).

Do you happen to remember if vomiting was an issue for you before it was removed?

I just don't want to go through a second surgery, especially feeling like this, if its not going to fix the problem

I had VSG surgery along with gallbladder removal and hernia repair on 10/11/17. I had no symptoms the just discovered stones during pre-op testing and said it would be best to remove my gallbladder. All is well no complaints. Just taking it easy. Walking and taking my prescribed meds.

I asked to have mine removed at the time of VSG surgery because I was told years ago it would eventually need to come out due to gallstones accumulating. I attempted to relay this to my surgeon through his staff but it was close to the time of surgery and it didn't really go anywhere unfortunately. Wish it had been taken care of all at once like you!

I know this is a super old post, but I'm looking for answers that my surgeon can't give me. I'm 3 mo's out from a sleeve and have always had the slimes, since surgery. I can eat something and walk into the bathroom, just open my mouth and regurgitated food covered in thick slime just shoots out. Never over eat....I don't wait too long to eat...and really doesn't matter what I eat, it's always there. meats of course, are the main culprit, so I do limit them or keep away from them. But I've found issues with lots of other things as well. I haven't taken antiacids cause I never have pain/burning/or belching acid. Is this common? do I need an anitacid although not having any symptoms but the slimes? I just can't imagine that this is the rest of my life! Making sure there is a bathroom near me at all times to go spit this stuff out!

I have had this since day 10 of surgery (sleeved 10/2). Everything (sometines even water) causes clear mucus like slime to come up. Mine happens with stomach spasms. Having major intake problems.

How do we get this to go away?????

  11. I was sleeved 10/2 and started getting stomach "spasms" about 10 days out which led to vomiting. Because my tolerance for liquids decreased, my surgical team suspects it may be my gallbladder which they confirmed is full of stones. Do you get any aching or pain lower and to the right of your main surgical site? If so, you may want to have your gallbladder checked.

I hear what you're saying, but here's something that might help wrap your mind around it.

Take two identical-appearing people -- both, say, 5'9 and 150 pounds. One of them has never been extremely overweight. The other once was 320 pounds, and lost a lot of weight to get down to 150. Feed them the exact same meal every single day, the same number of calories, the 2000 "suggested" by general nutritional info. The person who was once fat will in fact process those calories more and might in fact gain weight, while the person who never was obese might be perfectly fine.

If you have ever been fat, there are certain hormones your body creates more of, that changes the way your body works on a fundamental level. You will need fewer calories for the rest of your life -- even if you get down to weight -- than people who never had that excess weight.

Here's another fun fact. Related. The number of fat cells in your body never decreases, but it can increase. This means that when you put on a lot of weight, you increase the number of fat cells in your body -- and then when you lose weight they don't go away, they just shrink. This means that for the rest of your life, your body will more effectively store fat. You have more of a warehouse to fill, and so your body squirrels away more fat in it.

From what I understand this is true and it is theorized that reducing the stomach removes some of the offending hormones.

Also, plastic surgery after WLS (like a tummy tuck) can help by actually removing excess fat cells, not just shrinking them.

  13. I have been having terrible vomiting since about 10 days post op (sleeved 10/2). I can barely keep down anything but Water. Even thinned Protein Shakes are iffy. I am supposed to have been able to move to pureed food about a week ago and still can't keep down most foods from the full liquid phase. It is miserable! I feel your pain.

My doctors think it may be my gallbladder, which is full of stones, but I don't have any pain. They are thinking gallbladder because I was able to tolerate things right after the surgery that I can't anymore. Does your tolerance seem to be getting worse or has it been equally bad since sugery?
