How supportive was your husband??
Long2BFree replied to LookingForMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My daughter and hubby have been great during my pre-op and post-op clear liquid diet. They fend for themselves and I've even cooked for them a couple of times since I've been post-op and since I'm not hungry it hasn't even bothered me. If they want to bring something into the house that they think will bother me they will ask me first if it will bother me. I think I've only asked them to eat out once. I did warn them before I started this process that somethings would be hard and asked for support and understanding. My daughter was amazed last night when I was watching cooking shows and it didn't even bother me. -
Wow, I'm sorry to hear that there were problems with your surgery and that it took so long am glad you are okay. I would say what you are feeling at this point is very normal. It will get better, believe me. Keep us posted on your progress.

protein shake during pre-surgery clear liquids?
Long2BFree replied to blackcherry2002's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said protein shakes like the clear Isopure in bottles were out but the nutritionist said they were okay. Be sure to check with your surgeon so you don't mess things up. -
Hi Meek! I too had had (2) C-sections, a hysterectomy and gall bladder surgery. The gall bladder surgery left a nice 14" scar across the upper part of my belly. The surgeon said that it might have lots of scar tissue and be hard to do the surgery if there is but he was able to get in there, successfully do the surgery and also removed scar tissue. If the surgeon is highly skilled then I don't see why it can't be done. Best of luck to you in your Lap Band journey!

I am this close to boycotting Target
Long2BFree commented on honeysucklelee's blog entry in Random thoughts by me
Years ago Target had a large selection of plus size clothing but down sized. What they carry now is ugly and I don't even bother looking anymore. -
People like that only seem to say things like that because they are miserable themselves and most like will not change.

It's normal to feel the same things you are feeling and will probably get worse just before surgery. I had the same feelings and I've had several surgeries. You will do fine and will realize that it is one of the best decisions you've ever made.

Yep, it sounds like your port to me too.

Non band fill question please...
Long2BFree replied to Babysoftly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have seen people post who didn't need a fill... they got good enough restriction just by having the band placed. I personally hope this happens to me too but I'm starting to feel a slight hunger now that the swelling is starting to go down after surgery. -
options for financing lapband / self pay
Long2BFree replied to bobdole's topic in Insurance & Financing
You sound like a very special guy to finance the surgery for her. You are a keeper! I looked at the amount you want to finance. Will that cover the fills once she gets back to the US? -
How much are you eating one week post-op??
Long2BFree replied to BellaPerdente's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yum! Your beef strogonoff soup sound wonderful. I'll be trying it next week when I'm at that stage. -
Another mushies question
Long2BFree replied to dietpeach's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on clear liquids for 2 weeks so I'm just dealing with that right now. If you prefer fresh then I would wait until after you've had surgery to worry about it. -
I'm 8 days post op, being banded on July 17th. The surgery went smoothly. I ended up having extra scar tissue removed from my gallbladder surgery and had a hiatal hernia repair so I had a little more pain than I expected to experience. I'm now feeling about 80% back to normal... still dealing with getting tired easily. I haven't really dealt with any hunger at this point but know it's coming once my swelling goes down. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

when did you know surgery was for you?
Long2BFree replied to 2b-banded's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I knew about 3 years ago when I announced to my husband that I was gaving myself one more to lose weight and then I was going to have gastric bypass which I was petrafied of. A year went by and I still struggled only losing 30 pounds. I then researched Lap Band surgery but my insurance didn't cover it and knew I couldn't allow myself to go into debt to have it done, though my insurance would cover gastric bypass. I cried the whole week before I was supposed to go to a seminar for GBS and never went. Then in February of this year I saw that my insurance started covering Lap Band and I've never looked back especially since I was diagnosed with several more health problems within the past year. -
Doing a happy dance with you! It won't be long...

Encouragement comes when you least expect it

That was very thoughtful of her to think of you. How exciting to have something to look at everyday to work towards. -
Chicken, chicken, chicken...
Long2BFree replied to rcruz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't see where breaded fish would be as hard to eat like a slice of bread would be. If you take small bites and wait a few minutes to see if it goes down okay I would think you would do alright. -
How much are you eating one week post-op??
Long2BFree replied to BellaPerdente's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love WW's Points system too! I always had the most success with WW but had a hard time maintaining because I would get so hungry. -
Should I be losing more???
Long2BFree replied to detroitdame75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I echo what everyone else has said. You are healing so don't focus on losing (though I know it's hard not to). You are doing great but remember that 1 to 2 pounds per week is average as far a loss. -
I'm very sorry that you are having to deal with something so scary and painful. Can you share what your doctor is telling you about why this is happening and how to fix it? I hope you get better soon.

Just had surgery yesterday!!
Long2BFree replied to baker46's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you had yogurt that might be your problem with regurgitation... my people become lactose intolerant after being banded. I would double check with your surgeon about what you can have at this stage. Most are on a clear liquid at this point after having surgery. -
Surgery next week---Should I cancel/postpone???
Long2BFree replied to 2nd2none1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm sorry for all you are dealing with. Only you can decide what to do but if it were me personally I would postpone it under your circumstances. Adding more debt will only add more stress to your life. -
Really freakin out right now!
Long2BFree replied to frazzledmomof2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, this is the one. The mini gastric bypass isn't widely used. -
Really freakin out right now!
Long2BFree replied to frazzledmomof2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The topic of this video comes up every couple of months. If it's the one I'm thinking of the doctor is more or less using a scare tactic to steer people into going to him for surgery for a procedure that isn't widely used. There are many people out there that have successfully been banded for years without any problems.
