My surgery is scheduled for July 6th with Dr. Illan in Tijuana MX. 💃🏻✨

    July 4th!

I'm scheduled for July 6th and will be going alone. Deposit paid and flights booked! I really struggled with the decision... but with the endless research I did... both common sense and my gut told me Dr. Illan is the one for me. 😊
  3. I have not had surgery yet (still researching) but was told that in the event a Haital hernia is found there would be an extra charge. Seeing this appears to be very common and something that should be repaired I would think you should plan for this cost. I'm just not sure what form a payment is accepted as I don't plan on bringing a large amount of cash with me to have to worry about ( I will be going alone). Not sure if anyone can comment on this or has had experience with how it was handled.
  4. I haven't had surgery yet but only plan on telling my husband once I finalize my decision on "when and with whom". I don't intend on telling another soul ever. No one is entitled to know what is in my medical history... and to be frank... people can be gossipy jackasses. I just don't want my WLS to be the topic of anyone's conversations because people love to talk. I plan on giving the generic answer of "diet" if asked... and leave it at that.
  5. So with my BMI of 35 I need one comorbidity for my insurance to cover surgery. My question is... if I get diagnosed with sleep apnea... do I then need to use a breathing machine for some time before getting approval? I have BCBS of TX if that helps. I have an appt with my PCP tomorrow to get a sleep study script... I'm assuming that's what I need to get the ball rolling. ☺️
  6. Does anyone have experience with Dr. Wilcox and Dr. Felix from Hope Bariatrics? These are the doctors I'm currently looking at for gastric sleeve surgery. Thanks.

    Sleep apnea as comorbidity

Ok. Looks like I may have to mentally prepare to use a machine if I do in fact have sleep apnea. I wonder if I am expected to purchase it or if it's leased somehow? I would hate to spend money on these additional tests/ machines (my insurance does not cover every single medical expense) only to get denied by my insurance for bariatric surgery.

    Sleep apnea as comorbidity

Thank you for the information. I do want to check to see if I have any of the cormorbilities listed in my insurance policy before I go through the self pay route. I guess my question is if it's typical for insurance to expect you to use a breathing machine to manage your sleep apnea and thus not cover the procedure because it's best managed that way. Hope my question makes sense.
