    5 days post-op

I found that adding a couple of drops of peppermint extract to the premier shakes cut down on the sweetness.
  2. So is isopure unflavored okay? It says it has 25g protein per scoop

    9 days post op

I'm 3 weeks out and was only allowed liquids until today. I'm just starting puréed. So many docs give different food plans, I think mine is pretty cautious. Maybe try sticking to liquids as much as possible for another week, then slowly introduce puréed food, then other foods like deli meat

    Incision pain

The PA from my surgeon's office called and it is apparently normal. It is only with certain movements (coughing, sneezing, rolling over), that are associated with the muscle contracting. Even though my incisions are healed, the sutures underneath on the muscle may take more time. They only worry if the pain is constant and there was nausea or something. So I'm going to not worry!
  5. When does the pain at the main incision go away?! I'm 19 days out and most of the time I'm okay but if I have to cough or sneeze, my incision feels like it's on fire and about to burst open! Hurts when getting out of bed too. The incision is completely healed on the outside. How long does it take before there is NO pain? I also get bad pain in my lower right side of my stomach that goes around to my back, that usually doesn't last more than a day then randomly recurs.
  6. Thank you for your detailed response! I guess I'll look for another powder! Sorry I didn't search through the forum -- sometimes when I do that I'll get dozens of posts that don't answer my question. I don't like a lot of meat so I'm trying to find a powder I can mix with my mashed cauliflower or other puréed veggies when I hit the purée stage in a couple of days.
  7. Oh great, my nutritionist actually recommended it and I've been using it for a while now. What is wrong with it and is there a better option for unflavored protein powder?

    Sharp or pulling pain

I'm 15 days post op and have a massive pain in my lower right belly that goes around to my back. I saw my doc today for my 2 week update and he wasn't concerned. It hurts whenever I roll over, sit down, stand up, or yell (cheering my daughter's softball game!). It is sharp pain that feels like it's inside. Doc said ice and heat?

    Salad anyone?

I'm only 12 days out but on liquid for 3 weeks, then mushy/puree for another 3. Check with your doctor! I can't wait for salad!
  11. Please tell me I'll feel better tomorrow....and the next day...and so on! I got sleeved this morning and I'm miserable right now, trying to go to bed. I'm pretty sure it is gas pain and I've been walking as much around the house as I can since I got home. I've taken a few GasX...both chewable and melt strips. I've only been able to take about 15 ounces of water and one 20 gram protein drink (Muscle Milk). Because I've had so little, I only took 1/2 my pain pill just so I can sleep tonight. Any words of encouragement for this mama?! Thank you!!

I like Muscle Milk light, not as thick as the others. I also like Premier Protein shakes but have found them to be really sweet since surgery. I've discovered that putting a drop or two of peppermint extract in the shake is a game changer - makes it really refreshing. I put it in both chocolate and vanilla flavors.
  13. Update - 8 days out. I feel a lot better. Still waves of gas pain but not horrible. Still barely getting calories in but I've discovered that putting a drop or two of peppermint extract in my protein shakes takes some of the sweetness away and makes it much more refreshing! Down 12 pounds since surgery but not much change in how clothes fit so I'm looking forward to that. The hardest part is the sipping every 5 minutes. Takes too long to get food in! But I'm adjusting and looking forward to being able to have applesauce and cottage cheese and other mushy foods in 13 days!
  14. Has anyone had outpatient surgery? I'm scheduled for 6/1 at 7:30 am and need to check out of the surgery center by 5 pm. Has anyone else done this? Wondering how it was for you! I'm nervous! I'm self-pay, and I could pay more to stay overnight but the doctor indicated I don't need to. Thank you!

    Stomach pain

    Great to hear!!!!
  16. I need ideas for getting some needed calories! I was sleeved 6/1 and I'm on liquid only for 3 weeks. I'm so hungry. The soups/broths I've been trying are so salty....protein shakes so sweet. I'm feeling weak because I feel like I'm barely getting enough calories to exist! I got about 240 calories in yesterday....and about 60 grams of protein. With unflavored protein powder, I'm able to get protein but it is only about 60 calories. Any suggestions/recipes for liquid phase? I'm going to make some homemade veggie soup and blend it, but that won't be very high calorie, even if I add protein powder to it. Thanks!
  17. Thank you :-). I actually just feel super weak. Like I need calories. Not that I'm super hungry. I did have some hunger today but had a little protein shake and it was okay. I'm just exhausted! (Sleeved 6/1)

    Stomach pain

Any updates? How are you feeling now that it has been a few weeks?
  19. I've been using my timer today so I've gotten about 16 oz of regular water in plus about 16 oz of Propel, to which I've added protein powder to make it 30 grams of protein. I feel a little light headed but more like it is lack of calories than hydration (and I'm peeing consistently!) I'm hungry! But I have 15 more days of liquid diet so I'll just have to figure out how to get more liquid calories in. The broths are too salty and the protein shakes are too sweet. I liked all these things a week ago and thought I'd be okay on the liquid diet!!
  20. Update, day 4: I'm still in a lot of pain. Barely getting enough liquid/calories/protein in. Yesterday I pushed myself and managed to get in about 220 calories and 40 grams of protein, but probably only about 20 ounces of water on top of that. I'm peeing, so I'm not super worried about being overly dehydrated. This morning I'm having bad waves of pain. Different from other days. And this is probably way TMI, but is it normal to not have a BM 4 days after surgery? I figure it's because I haven't really had any food? I'm going to be emailing my doctor's office this am too, but interested as always in hearing what all of you say!
  21. Because I lost 10 pounds in the 2 week pre diet and I wish I had always had the discipline to just do it on my own. Now I'm in pain, have massive headache from not getting enough calories/water and I just feel so weak. I don't see how I can possibly get enough calories in me to be functional! Pity party right now, I'm sure it will be better in a few days when the pain subsides but any protein I'm trying tastes awful. Just feeling bleak right now.
  22. I wish my surgeon would have done that. I feel like I rushed this decision. Had my surgery three days ago and was crying right before I went in. I wish I wouldn't have done it.

    Post-Op Diets

I did as much liquid as possible two weeks pre....my post op is 3 weeks liquid, then 3 weeks purée/mushy. I'm only on day 3 post op and can't imagine how I'm supposed to get my protein AND 64 ounces of water.
  24. Has anyone (3 months or more post-op) NOT lost their hair? If so, what are you doing in terms of supplements? Thanks!
  25. I like the GenePro unflavored protein powder (available at GNC or Amazon). Adds 30 grams of protein to your food. I put it in soup, oatmeal, mashed cauliflower, Crystal Light and I just discovered putting it in Propel water. Has a slight odor but overall very good!
