    MyLife_MyStory got a reaction from Heres2SecondChances in Sleeves 5/1
Hi! I was sleeved on 5/1 also. As of today I have not taken my nausea meds been up walking more but my stomach itches alot even though I've been wearing the compression band they gave me at the hospital. My incisions seem to be healing but my stomach is protruding to the point I look pregnant. I have alot of gas but no #2s [emoji54]. My goal was to go back to work next Wednesday...definitely not happening now.

I was wondering about ordering a compression band. I'm actually surprised they sell them in bigger sizes.

Those who posted above, thanks for sharing your stories. I hope it gets easier for all of us very soon!

Haven't had surgery yet but have already been asked if that's what I'm planning to do. My response in a curious tone was: are YOU?
And that worked so well that I think I'm going to use that for after surgery as well. If someone asks if I had WLS, I will look confused and say "have you?" I feel like it's an odd question to ask and I can't imagine a scenario where it's appropriate to ask (when the person hasn't told anyone nor brought it up). So I will turn the table so they can hear the question from another perspective.
Might sound bad and I'm ok with that. This is the one thing I will keep to myself and I am not obligated to answer anyone's curiosity. If we ask the question back politely, sincerely, and curiously, it's not defensive nor inappropriate.

I like the "resting b****" answer to any questions about wls. I haven't told anyone outside my girlfriend not even family. Thankfully I have been already losing weight for years on my own and I'm thinking everyone will just think I've been doing this for awhile so they won't ask. My girl and I were talking this morning on the drive to get my surgery, today, 5/3/17, and she said prepare yourself because people will ask after the surgery. I don't have a resting b face but I have perfected the don't F look at me face, thanks to my line of work [emoji4]

Well BP FAM , I'm back again with a rant. My husband and I were talking last night and he made comments in how he wished I never had this surgery. He stated that my butt has gone almost away and he felt all unneeded to do was tone up and lose my belly initially. Well, first of all, I don't know how you tone up 242 lbs with BMI 0f 39( which was my initial weight and BMI). So.... he proceeded to run his mouth about all the things I can't do like drink gallons of sweet tea, eat cake and Cookies, go to restaurants and eat appetizer , entree and dessert.. You know all of the healthy stuff that led me to be 242 lbs in the first place. Well, I was really hurt by his comments. My rebuttal was how much healthier I am , I am a lose size 10 as opposed to a tight size 16, I am no longer out of breath with walking 20 feet and I am able to exercise. I like how my body has changed and I told him I love my size. Well, he said "you don't have to be attracted to you, I do and you only needed to lose a little belly but now your butt has gone down tremendously " well needless to say I was pushed to my breaking point. I was like if you don't like what you see, go and find you a thick chic with a donkey's ass. I'm not even at goal yet so I'm gonna lose more and just ticked that he would say that to me which made me feel a lil insecure about my looks. Then I snapped out of it. I have posted pics on my other forums but I will put my last one here as well. Not tooting my own horn but I worked hard for these results . I had surgery in Dec 2016. I am just like dang I can't win for losing .i really thought I was doing good . My pics show one week after surgery on left, middle is 1 1/2 months post op and last pic on right was about 2 weeks ago.

I'm in the same boat as many of you. I work in a tight knit office and love my coworkers dearly. My boss and I even went on vacation to Australia a few years ago and she has Me over every Christmas Eve (I have no locals family). 2010 to 2011 I lost about 160 lbs doing Optifast for a year. I never told anyone there I was doing it. I was fit and active and it was life changing. Unfortunately, I didn't really develop better eating habits and since 2011 have yo yo'd up and down and now back up 120 of those lbs. I have only told my 2 closest friends, one of whom had a sleeve a few years ago. The other is a friend who also struggle with her weight and has been my diet and exercise buddy for years. My family knows too. I told coworkers the same as many of you. Hiatal hernia to try and help my reflux and gall bladder (after Optifast I had 3 attacks but never followed through with having it out). I go back and forth about theming them and others but I just don't want anyone judging me if I struggle. I know this will be a lifelong challenge for me, I know I will have ups and downs. I have a food addiction Andy I'm a compulsive overrater. It took m 36 years to come to terms with that and start working on it. At 43, I'm ready for some help and I hope that's what the sleeve brings me. Along with the surgery I have a whole other support system from my surgeons program and I've been really happy so far with the program. I go in on Tuesday for my sleeve. I'm nervous. I wonder sometimes that this isn't crazy to cut out 80% of my stomach. But then I think about how unhappy I am. How's I have been stuggling for the last 15 years actively (though all my life on some level) with my weight. This is a long rant but I think as D-day approaches, I may getting more and more reflective. Good luck to you all and believ in your choice and who you tell. This is your life and only you have to live it.

I appreciate everyone's response and Thank you. Clearly I was having a pretty bad moment but yet I woke up this morning and said to myself "girl you tripping" lol. If I have turned down going out to eat with coworkers and office pot lucks all happening in the past 2 weeks and during my pre op I'm definitely on my way to a better me. I just needed others opinions due to the fact I really don't have many people who understand what Im going through. But this was my choice and still on this journey to a better me overcoming any obstacles I may encounter [emoji4] [emoji4] [emoji4]

Are you allowed crabcakes? Are you on a 2 week pre-op liquid diet? If you are on a liquid diet, then yes, you are "wrong" to eat crabcakes, a baked potato and a small salad.
Even if you are on a 2 week pre-op diet that is not a liquid diet, I don't think the crabcakes or the potato would be allowed. Those two things are very high in carbs. Also, crabcakes are usually fried and full of fat. That won't help shrink your liver at all. The idea of the pre op diet it not to lose weight, although that is nice, but it is to shrink your liver, so that it is not too large and they can easily do the surgery on your stomach. If your liver is too large when they go in to do surgery, they will literally stop what they are doing and cancel your surgery!
You have to get in the mindset that you can reward yourself, but not with something that is detrimental to your health. Don't make the wrong choice, make the right choice. If you feel like you need a reward for sticking to your diet, ditch the crabcakes and baked potato and go with something that you are allowed to eat.
    Good luck!

Yes, in my opinion, you'd be wrong to eat a crab cake and baked potato.
You're going to want a lot of things as you continue with this journey, and a lot of the time, you just can't have them. The surgery is just a tool; it is continuous good decisions about food and drink that are the key to success long term.
    Good luck!

The premise of shrinking your liver comes with the removal of fat surrounding and within the liver. It's fat infiltration that expands it in the first place. So if you're on a low carb/low cal diet that adequately burns up fat from the liver causing it to shrink, it's also burning adipose tissue away throughout your body too. Weight loss should come hand in hand with shrinking the liver. The mechanism is the same. One thing to keep in mind is having adequate Protein would ensure that energy (which is what the body uses adipose tissue for when there isn't enough stored carbs) isn't burned from essential areas like your muscles.
Starches are an absolute no-no for pre-op diet. If you're going to make crab cakes, substitute bread crumbs with almond meal. No potatoes. There's nothing special about "liquid" that shrinks the liver any better, just watch your intake.

If it's not apart of your preop diet, yes it is wrong. To be blunt, if you can't follow this diet, you shouldn't be having the surgery. The preop diet is the beginning of a life long commitment to eating healthy and practicing self control. Slipping up on the preop shows your surgeon that you're not ready to make this change and ultimately results in a cancellation of your surgery. You didn't work this hard to get to this point to ruin it over crab cakes and potatoes. Don't substitute anything. If crab cakes aren't on the diet. Don't eat them. Simple as that. Remember, you're only cheating yourself.

I cheated significantly on my diet by this criteria. I couldn't tolerate the liquid they wanted me on. Instead, I researched the premise of liver shrinking, liver function, and how it correlates with long term healthy diet, and for the 3 month pre-op diet, I was on liquid for maybe a week or two, in uttery misery, did not do it again for 80% of the diet. My diet consisted mainly of string cheese, home made meatballs, almonds, peanuts, Peanut Butter, burgers (even fast food burgers minus Buns and minimal condiments), taking bariatric Vitamins (up until a few weeks before surgery), liver looked outstanding at surgery. I was given a picture of it when I woke up in short stay which I'm keeping forever.
I don't buy that liquid diets do any better.

Look at foods that are healthier to eat on - I couldn't do my 3 weeks liquid so I added yoghurts and low fat food options outwith what I was allowed. Lost 9kg and told my team what I was doing because I knew myself I was being careful. Surgery was fine and liver looked excellent.

You want to "reward yourself" ...now is the best time to learn how to not reward yourself with food. That's a very slippery slope- and often the root of our eating issues.

Per the crab cakes you had, it's not going to make your liver gain back the lost fat, I was given a bit more flexibility in my own program and was allowed at 1 meal (less than 600 cals).
I think the only issue here would be that liquid diet before surgery helps to prepare for the postop liquid-only stage. If following a preop liquid diet feels tough, the post-op liquid stage will really 'test your will power'. I kept dreaming about weird foods for the better part of my immediate post op period in my own case... but it passed.. as do all things..

All the best with your surgery.
