  1. Hey there:):bananajump:

I asked my doc about the erosion thing and he e-mailed me back saying that he takes extra precautions against that and he always makes sure that the buckle is turned away from the stomach. He eased my mind about this icon14.gif

and I don't think that I have anything to worry about. He's a great doc--came highly recommended. Dr. Cobourn in Toronto, Ontario. *smile*

    :) Marlene:) :)

  2. Hello maygoddess,

I also have decided to get the band to help me keep the weight off. The key word here is 'help'. I am in touch with someone who has turned out to be a very good friend and she was banded in January. I have gained a lot of information and insight from this thread and I am ever so grateful to all of you. I know that I can succeed because I want to succeed. If I become part of that 25% it will only be because I stopped trying. I know that this will be a life long thing and I am prepared to deal with that.

Good luck to you and much continued success to you. WOW!! 100 lbs. That's fantastic. It's people like you that have helped give me the courage to do this, and it's people like you who make me sure that I too can succeed. It's all about attitude. Thanks.

  3. Hi Everyone, I don't want to go into specifics but I went in for Lap RNY and a freaky thing happened. My aorta was punctured before they had time to do the actual surgery and so now I have to have it again. I am now very afraid to put myself in that same situation again and so I have decided to go with the band because it is much safer. I may not be able to have it laparoscopically because of all the scar tissue (they had to open me right up in order to repair my aorta). Unfortunately, I am right back at square 1, but this time it's the band for me. I'm worth the $15,000. and so is my family. Marlene :D ON MY WAY AT LAST!!!!!!!

  4. Thanks for the response. I am going with a doctor in Missassauga because of the fills mostly. Also I have heard wonderful things about him and I am very confident in his credentials. I am meeting with him on Monday and am very anxious. Congrats on your success so far. continued success to you!!! :D

  5. To Sharon T - PA

so glad your DS is working for you and all is well. I took your advice and visited duodenalswitch.com and received a lot of info there. However, I had a really bad experience last Dec with a RNY and so that is why I went with the band. I guess I'm just afraid of this type of surgery again even though I know that everything would probably be fine. Continued success to you.

    Marlene :P

  6. Hi Everybody, So glad to hear from you all. Really appreciate the input. I think I have made up my mind and it looks like maybe Feb 17 for me. I will be meeting the doctor in 10 days for my consultation. If all goes well, it's Feb. Happy Valentines day to me. lol p.s. I've decided on Toronto, much easier than Mexico!

  7. to Photonut

I want to thank you for your insightful post. I am having a hard time deciding if the band or the DS is right for me. I think I have just made up my mind! I nearlly died on the table 1 year ago having (or trying to have) bypass surgery. My aorta was punctured and so the procedure was not done in order to repair the damages and try to save me life. Well I pulled through and now here I am facing the same decisions that I faced the last time. I guess I knew in my heart all along that the band was for me and your post has just re-inforced my feelings and what I know in my heart to be true. I have spent so many hours researching the different methods and looking for something, I'm not even sure what. I'm really scared this time. I finally found what I am looking for. It's been inside me all along. thank you so very much. Please e-mail me. Marlene

  8. Another question for Sue

Just came into this thread and was wondering why you chose the DS? I'm much in the same situation as Dody as far as trying to decide what is right for me and this WHY question seems to keep popping into my head. I'm finding that the answers I am getting are helping me more than anything, and I really need some help right now.

  9. Don't give up trying. Have you tried a Google search on bariatric surgeons in your area? Someone here mentioned Mexico. I too have checked into that and found a Dr. Rumbaut who has his own website, but if you do this you will need to find a Dr. to do your fills unless you can go to Mexico each time. Do you have insurance for this? Just a few thoughts. Good luck!!!!!!!!

  10. Not banded yet. Still working on it. Trying to get more info on it to make sure this is the right way to go. Everyone here sounds so positive about their decision. Congratulations to you all. If anyone reads this I would truly like to know before I have the surgery if you wish that you would have taken another route--and if so, which one? I guess I really have the heebie-jeebies.

  11. I had my band placed in August of 2002. My port flipped soon after surgery, so I had a port replacement in August of 2003.

I developed scar tissue blocking the tubing to the band rendering it useless (no fill in, no fill out, blocked up like a cork!) so my band was removed 11/17/05 and I had a revision to the DS. So far I am 37 pounds down in a bit over 5 (almost 6) weeks.

Sometimes complications happen no matter what kind of surgery you have. I think most people do OK, with minor or no complications with banding. Well Wishes!

Hi Rachele, I find your post very interesting because I can't decide between the lap band and the DS. Since you have had both, I would really appreciate any info you could give me. Please e-mail me at "theracines@3web.com". Congrats on your weight loss so far and I can't wait until I can join in your success. Marlene
