  1. I'm extremely dubious of any anti depressant. Meds don't help most peoples situation because it doesn't fix the issue, just buries it.
You're talking about Buptopian, which comes with a myriad of side affects, including delusional thinking, confusion, hallucinations, paranoia, seizures - and while those side affects and symptoms can be reduced by lowering the dosage, and while it's great to help with not smoking, why the hell would a person want to take something that is potentially dangerous if they don't smoke?
And while I agree that Welbutrin is a safer choice for very short term use, as it's a less harmless anti depressant, many people start of taking it and don't fix their issues, then graduate to harder SSRI meds.
Therapy is a better way of dealing with issues. I disagree with just handing out pills.< br>I've known many mentally unstable people in my line of work, many having had taken anti depressants and very few of them were helped by them, but by changing their lifestyles.

I am a well educated graduate level nurse with experience in mental health and I work with patients who are struggling emotionally and pts who are mentally ill. A personal note....i have been taking an SSRI for 14 yrs, my 19 yo daughter has been on it for 5 yrs. In fact, there is such a chemical imbalance throughout the family....several of us need the SSRI to function normally. Y would you tell someone to not take something prescribed by their Dr. Would you tell a diabetic to not take their insulin because the body will end up craving it....well duh!!! The body needs the insulin...same concept with a SSRI. PEOPLE LISTEN TO TRAINED HEALTH CARE STAFF. IF YOU NEED A PILL TO GET YOU THRU THE DAY THEN SO BE IT!! I WORK WITH CANCER PTS TOO. WE GET MANY WHO DON'T WANT TREATMENT BECAUSE OF WHAT A FRIEND TOLD THEM....OH GEEZ
..THEN 3 MONTHS LATER THE PT NOW HAS METASTATIC BREAST CANCER...IF ONLY SHE TOOK THE MEDS THE DR RECOMMENDED INSTEAD OF SMOKING DOPE AND EATING ALL NATURAL , THEN THE MASS COULD HAVE SHRUNK VS BREAKING THRU THE SKIN. NOW THAT PT IS DEAD!!! TRY THE MEDS PEOPLE!!!

  2. I was sleeved 4/18 and I can totally relate to your experience of people eating around you. I just had family in for the weekend for my daughter's birthday and there was all sorts of food. And I had some serious regret!! But then I realized it is more the emotional connection of my brain to food with these experiences. I tried to go back to remembering why I did what I did... I still have moments where I miss my binge sessions, but then I remember I did this so that I could no longer have binge sessions! It's a transformation of body and mind for sure!

I was also sleeved 4/18. I have had several episodes of regret...especially walking through the grocery store with my family who can eat. I've actually gotten angry at my partner to for getting milk duds. Then I think about my health and things get a little better. One day at a time!

  3. My bmi is 46 and I have high cholesterol and am pre-diabetic. Apart from that, my life is awesome. I mean of course it could be better. Not having a mental breakdown every time I go clothes shopping because nothing will fit me would be nice. Having more energy would be nice. However, I have dealt with chronic diarrhea, stomach cramping, and nausea in the past...and that is not something I ever want to go through again. Also, given that 1 in every 200 wls result in death....I'm worried I'm the 1.

I'm interested to know where you got your statistics for wls death rates. Death is a very low risk with this surgery.

  4. Can anyone tell me why some surgeons use a drain and/or catheter for the sleeve surgery and some do not? I'm looking at a surgeon who does use either and I'm wondering if I should be concerned that he does not. Thanks!

You need the drain to get rid of excess Fluid in your abdomen from the surgery. My surgeon doesn't do urinary catheters anymore, and most shouldn't due to the risk of infection. The abdominal drain is needed. I just had mine removed today, day 8 post op.

  5. My surgery went amazing. Only had to stay over night and was released the next day. I came home with a pain pump and a prescription to give myself 1 shot a day for 10 days of blood thinners. I have almost no pain at all except the small amount of gas left inside my chest and abominal cavity. I have been walking alot and even went grovery shopping at Walmart 2 days after surgery. Today, I had to remove the pain pump tubes on my own. Didnt hurt at all. 3 days post op here are my stats HW225 SW217 CW213 GW140.

I had surgery on the 18th. Had terrible post op nausea and vomiting so couldn't even keep anything down until day 2. Still on pain meds and it feels like someone is tugging on my intestines on the left side. I've been on oxygen since I left the hospital so it has been hard to go anywhere. I am glad to hear your surgery went well. How you described your experience is what I anticipated, but that didn't happen! Keep up the great work!

  6. I finally took the step to get the gastric sleeve. I am 5 days post op and having a hard time drinking my Protein Shakes. I didn't expect so much pain. I have already lost 12lbs in 5 days. Is this too much? I have a cousin and uncle who had bypass over 15 yrs ago so it is hard to compare stories. I have struggled my whole life with weight and am disgusted with myself....but now feel regret. Any ideas to help me gain more strength to get through these first several weeks?
