I go in July to get sleeved, my nutritionist said only 5 Protein Shakes 1 cup almond milk gonna be brutal
Is that what you're allowed to have in a day?

My nutritionist says Sugar is Sugar..... There isn't a good one

I'm having a hard time with my pre op diet because I'm on antibiotics and since I'm not eating I'm vomiting almost everyday. I don't want to give up noe, but at times I feel like I can't do this.

Are you allowed Protein Shakes?

Wow! Congratulations. Any tips on getting through it?

There's nothing you can do other than prove them wrong. I make sure to do absolutely nothing to quell their concerns, they are irrelevant. I'm doing this for myself not for anyone else, so proving to myself is the only essential part.
Thank you

I'm hoping for an end of June date. I finish up my pre stuff and see the surgeon again on May17th. At my first appt he said if we had everything done by that date we could schedule. Congrats and I'll keep you posted if I'm having mine around the same time

I would say "you're entitled to your opinion," and then walk away and prove them wrong. Your long-term success will be your best response.
That's what I plan on doing...... Just watch and see me succeed

I'd like to say I'd do what blizair09 said, but in reality I would probably spend some time finding their insecurities and exploiting them as much as possible with little nasty but totally ambiguous statements to them over the next few months. Realistically, only a really insecure person would say something negative about you making a positive life choice.
I love your idea!. I honestly think she was just concerned, wanting to make sure I know what I'm in for....... But it did cause me to doubt myself for a nanosecond

How do you deal and what do you say when people doubt your ability to ensure the challenges after surgery? I had a co worker make a comment this morning.

Just found out today that I will have to do a 2wk liquid diet prior to surgery. Any tips and suggestions to make this a not so awful experience would be greatly appreciated!

I had my thyroid removed in 2005. I had gastric bypass in November 2106. I'm dependent on the medicine also. I haven't had any issues however my GP said that my dose may need to be decreased as I lose weight.
Glad you have had success. Did you have trouble keeping your thyroid levels normal at any time...... More trouble than usual that is

I'm on the bubble trying to decide which to choose........i would appreciate your thoughts

Thanks for your replies. I'm so scared I will make the wrong choice

How much weight do you have to lose?

I had my first appointment last week and already have all of my clearance appointments set to be completed before my next appointment in 4wks. If all is done by then we will schedule surgery. I was expecting this to take a lot longer but am glad it's gonna happen!

I just posted a similar question. Total thyroidectomy little over a year ago.
On 4/8/2017 at 4:52 PM, KelliH said:Hi everyone, I've been reading for a while but never posted.
I am currently 3 appointments away from completing all my pre-surgery requirements. My Dr. says I need to drop 14lbs before surgery. I was wondering if any of you have had their thyroid removed? I had mine taken out about 7 years ago and my weight gain just escalated from there. My concern was the 14lbs but so far I'm doing great. I don't have a surgery date yet and have started seriously cutting back. No sodas, very minimal carbs, Protein drinks during the day and a very light high Protein meal for dinner. I've lost 8lbs in 6 days. I worry about how I'll do after surgery and if anyone has heard how those with no thyroid do after surgery. Its typically extremely hard for me to lose even a few pounds. Thanks for any feedback and good luck to everyone.

Have any if you had the surgery with thyroid problems? I've just started the process for gastric surgery. In December of 2015 I had to have my thyroid removed for large non cancerous nodules. When I met with the Dr for the first time and told him I wanted the sleeve, he pointed out that with the amount of weight the charts say I need to lose, I may not lose it all with the sleeve.
My main concerns and reasons for wanting the sleeve and not the bypass are the malabsorption and dumping syndrome. Since I'm totally dependent on Synyhroid, I'm not willing to chance those side effects. If I were to have the side effects, I wouldn't be getting adequate thyroid hormone and feel like that will totally negate any success I could have.
Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I'd greatly appreciate the input.

I'm hoping to be having my surgery in late June. Just have to finish up the clearance appointments. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Best of luck to all. Can't wait to read about your progress.
